@@peternguyen9424exactly Mormons will literally learn another language just to knock on your door to tell you about “our lord and savior Jesus Christ” lmao
My parents were young when they had me, so they sent me to day care most of the day for them to go work, and told me that other people don't know Hmong so over time I just... lost it. My tongue/pronunciation isn't the same, I have no idea how to read it, and I can only understand easy sentences and won't follow in an actual conversation. Are there any sites or videos that are good to learn from?My family (just mom and dad and I)are athiests and I feel uncomfortable in churches because everyone talks about me like I'm some rebel who refuses to speak Hmong and who doesn't care about my culture. Help?
Haseul's Seal i never spoke hmong because everyone spoke english and my parents would speak a couple of words in hmomg when i was younger. I was also the only asian kid (hmong) in my classes and they were always filled with cacasians. So that pretty much sucked. I actually never checked out websites but you've probably ran into hmong lesson videos. Im trying to learn 3 different languages right now so(including hmong).... hmmmm.... im thinking you should learn words first. Im doing that and it actually works. I know it's 5 months and all but if your still struggling. It might work. \(•0•)/
It is never too late to learn. Guarantee that these dudes learned in 2 -5 years. Don't be so hard on yourself. Watch Hmong movies, listen to hmong music.
When people ask how I am Hmong but find it difficult to understand or speak when older people are involved. I describe it to them as if you, a present day American, get dropped into the time period of Shakespeare and everyone is speaking in Olde English. You know the words, you can understand a few phrases and sentences, and can form an idea of what people are trying to say, but you obviously aren't fluent in Olde English. That's how I feel when my dad is talking to older Hmong people.
Mormons, likely. They have an obligation to go on mission for 2 years , often in another country. So many examples of white guys speaking other languages are Mormon pairs of missionaries.
Damn 4 years later and only now I see this. It's nice to see others study and learn our Hmong culture and language. As for my hmong fellow people, don't downgrade yourself because you can not speak your language. You can take classes, grab dictionaries and or teach yourself, so you can speak well and feel proud of yourselves. Come on, don't be lazy, and complain or blame your parents for not teaching or speaking to you the language, cause you have no excuse as an adult or teen, when you can make changes in your hmong education and language speaking. Take the initiative to learn it now.
They're missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving a Hmong speaking mission. So Awesome! Mormon is like a nickname for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and it's members, given decades ago by some who were not members of the church, and the name just stayed with us.
they can speak better hmong than some hmong people...

Okay but caring about your culture is important
If you lost your language and culture you're no longer hmong.
It is never too late to learn. Guarantee that these dudes learned in 2 -5 years. Don't be so hard on yourself. Watch Hmong movies, listen to hmong music.
Don't need help. Hmong is a dying language. Better off focusing your efforts elsewhere. All you'd get out of it is OGs lecturing you.
