Queen Charlotte A Bridgerton Story Episode 1 Reaction of Syntell and Snootyvegans

- Charlotte is brought before the formidable Princess Augusta (Michelle Fairley) and her councilors, and subjected to a rather dehumanizing inspection before being informed that the Parisian wedding gown she brought will not be needed, as they have a simpler, traditional, English gown for her to wear. Her pointed insistence that Charlotte fall in line feels loaded, especially since the exchange immediately follows Augusta's attempt to see if the color of Charlotte's skin comes off if she rubs at it. While it's an effective way to show she is at best ignorant and at worst racist, it's also an odd choice given that later on we see that she has met other Black people before and presumably knows skin color doesn't wash off.

#QueenCharlotte #Bridgerton #Episode1 - Zábava
🍼 they DID have 15 children and surprisingly 13 of them made it to adulthood... In a time when 50% of the babies died. However George's favorite daughter did die as a young adult and the thought of her death often caused him to go into a manic attack
That's insane. She spent damn near half of her life pregnant.
And these damn kids have the audacity to not have "legitimate" children 😂
Is this surprising tho? The royals had a way better life than normal people. It's expected that they'd be healthier.
@@erikperhs_ no. Even though it would make quarantine better for viruses a lot of medical treatments we know today weren't known then. And surgeries were impossible since there was no penicillin or anesthesia. Also rich people sat inside with smog and smoke all day. They weren't outside in the fresh air like poor people
@@Syntell right?!? 50 Maury DNA babies!
@@erikperhs_ not really. queen anne, the one that gave the throne to his family, had 17 children and only one made it to the age of 8.
The guy crying is the dead princesses father not her husband, since she was the Queen’s Granddaughter who died giving birth to her great grandchild.
No, the guy crying is the queen and king’s son. The person who died was his wife and she died in childbirth. The baby that died was the Queen’s granddaughter.
@@kihyahouston387 They said “the King and Queen’s granddaughter died in childbirth along with her baby”. That means she was his daughter not wife
@@kihyahouston387 the baby that died was the Queen's great-granddaughter. The mother was her granddaughter, her first son (the man crying) only child
@@kihyahouston387 nop queen's son's granddaughter
That guy was Prince Regent George, Charlotte and George III’s firstborn son, and Princess Charlotte’s father. Prince George is still married at the time of his daughter's death to Caroline of Brunswick. Considering the two of them hated each other at first sight and were separated, its no surprise she wasn't mentioned by the Royal family.
she spent half her life pregnant and they have 50+ illegitimate babies can make even 1? i would be mad and concerned too
Well, the guy who was crying (who will be George IV but is now prince regent) made one--that's who just died.
@@HuntingViolets yeah i know that, at the end of the day the baby did not survive so there still wasn't an heir
Lol. U r right. The queen has a right to be mad.
That fact always surprised me considering most royal children were betrothed in their childhood or teen years. These guys are all adults!
I find it so funny how Adolphus is so shocked by meeting George that he temporarily reverts back to German
lol The Queen didn't look disappointed when she found out the King was still alive, she looked relieved. She always made sure to ask that question first whenever the doctor came to bother her because that would be the worst news she'd receive.
@3:35
Charlotte's Brother: "There are worse fates than marrying the king of England."
Lady Mikel: "Are theerrrre?"
Fast Forward to Lady Danbury @9:35 😂😂🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
By far my favorite season of Bridgerton. Queen Charlotte and King George are unexpectedly my favorite couple in the whole series now 🥰
Fun fact: the example of faithful friendship and love exhibited by Queen Charlotte and King George in real life directly influenced the matchmaking culture in Georgian and Regency era England. The norm went from arranged marriages to encouraging love matches between partners (as long as they were of the same class and the father approved). Their relationship made a permanent positive change in society and continued on within their own family. Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth the II also were famously in love with their husbands.
I’m so happy y’all are watching this! I binged the whole season in one day. For centuries there’s been countless debates on whether Queen Charlotte was a WOC or not. There’s so many books and papers and studies to suggest that it’s true. From the portraits I’ve seen of her I have no doubt that Charlotte was really a WOC. That’s huge. I love Charlotte and Lady Danbury. They make this entire universe! Loved your commentary about this episode. Y’all are going to love it!
Super excited!!
And just like that. . . Off to Wikipedia I go
The purpose of Netflix introducing black people in this series is basically "what if Queen Charlotte was really black?". They started there and that's how they got to the Bridgerton universe where there's basically no racism.
Really loved this series and I’m watching it again!
I have just watched the whole season. It’s beautiful heartbreaking funny, and I’m not ashamed to say I cried at the end .
5:02 The man whose crying is Charlotte and George's eldest son, George the Prince Regent (since his father is considered mentally unable to rule) and future George the Fourth (considered to be something of a joke). The woman who just died is his only daughter Princess Charlotte of Wales. George the Fourth and his wife Caroline famously disliked each other before they even met each other and disliked each other even more after they were married - to the degree when he didn't even invite her to his coronation.
Turned Netflix on and their was Queen Charlotte. 6 hrs later I was so happy with my day. Loved this show.
"Virgins to the left of me, Whores to the right"
I got my gay life in that line 🙌🙌🙌🙌
😂😂😂😂😂
I cannot wait for you to see the rest of this season. I thought it would be at least as good as the second season, but this story has BLOWN me away. The diamond of the series, as far as I’m concerned.
I wholeheartedly agree. I think that this series was the best out of all of the Bridgertons so far.
To clarify, King George III and Queen Charlotte had 15 children. 13 of them survived to adulthood.
I binged it bc I just couldn’t stop watching and I BALLED MY EYES OUT at the end. Such great story telling! Enjoyed it more than the original show honestly!
This is so random and I’m sorry if it seems out of nowhere, but I’ve seen several people spell that word like that and I just want to say it’s spelled bawled.
Just piggy backing on your King George comment, i will say that if you watch season two of Bridgerton you'll soon realize that his and Charlotte's relationship is not what we thought at all. Very heartbreaking.. And that why we were so excited for this series, to delve into that. Can't wait to see y'alls reaction for real.
I binged the whole thing yesterday. Of course I LOVED it. These stories are so well written and the performances are perfect. It was a happy day for me. 😁
Great reaction video! In total, Charlotte had 15 children, but 2 died (Amelia, mentioned in S1, and a child who died quite young). By the time her son married and produced the ONLY legitimate heir, he was 50 years old. And ... his daughter was Queen Victoria. So, Charlotte's awesome comment was a great foreshadowing moment there. Love that line "Virgins to the Left of me, whores to the right." Kept thinking of that song, "Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right." LMAO
And I learned in a biography of Victoria her uncle the King managed to stay alive (even though he was sick) just until she turned 18 so her mother would be regent 😂
I also believe KGIII ended up having more legitimate grandchildren, but Victoria became the heir because her cousins were from younger siblings.
@jeanallan8106 you mean so her mother would NOT be Regent Queen Victoria ruled in her own right
@@jeanallan8106 there were no, absolutely no legitimate grandchildren of George III except Victoria. All the other were born out of wedlock. Except, one of the sons married a Catholic and so not out of wedlock concerning the Catholic Church but definitely concerning the crown because their father didn't have permission from the king to marry. So their marriage was annulled. And the children wouldn't be able to ascend to the throne anyway because their mother was Catholic.
@@Nemshee You’re right. I watched a clip about Victoria’s upbringing that mentioned her lack of playmates and how she was kept away from her paternal cousins that were around her age because of family tensions. I didn’t realize they weren’t in the line of succession.
Two died in childhood (Octavius at four and Alfred at not quite two) and Amelia died of tuberculosis at 27.
You see, King George III and Queen Charlotte had 15 children overall, but only 13 survived to adulthood, as two of their sons died at a young age.
The granddaughter of the King and Queen was Princess Charlotte, the only daughter of Prince George(King George III and Queen Charlotte’s eldest son and heir)and Princess Caroline, his wife.
By the way, King George’s mother is named Dowager Princess Augusta. She’s played by Michelle Fairley, the same actress who played Catelyn Stark like you said earlier.
Nice reaction you two. I am so glad you enjoyed the first episode. Keep up the good work and have a good day.
It’s my understanding that charlotte was considered an excellent match because she had never voiced any political ambitions, her small state/country would never be a threat to Great Britain, and she spent most of her life isolated on their grounds, meeting the purity standard. A perfect wife for a king in the 1700s
She was also Protestant, which was a requirement and not common of foreign nobles at the time.
And they didn’t know she was black
@@sharmainejohnson565 She wasn't.
😊 I love that he recognizes voices and hints and Mikel sitting there confused like.... WHO DAT?
😂 That's only temporary. Mikel-Claire pays waaaay more attention to the details than me.
Oh, I marathon watched this show. And cried. I can't wait for you guys to get even more into the background between all of our favorite adult ladies and mothers of the ton from the OG series. Danbury and Charlotte are MAJOR standouts, of course, and they certainly take us on a ride.
I love hearing all of the older characters we love: Lady Danbury, the Queen, and Lady Bridgerton.
I binged the entire season at work ... 😄...n Yes I am still employed.
Yessss😂we can't wait to get home, like c'mon!
I finished the whole series... Its a beautiful love story. I am not a crier .. but i cried in this one. Its beautiful.
The man crying ( his name is Georgie, he’s a mommas boy ) is the princess’ father. So ultimately, that makes Charlotte the grandmother of the princess who died with her baby.
Yes
14:14 They have the best meet-cute! Their chemistry is off the charts!
I watched all 6 episodes yesterday and it was awesome! Loved it 💙👍🏽
I've started watching it yesterday. Didn't finish it yet but it's my favorite out of all "Bridgerton universe" so far.
I have really enjoyed your reaction! After finishing the series I must say that I LOVED all the episodes and this is by far my favourite Bridgerton related story. I wished they were thinking on doing a 2nd season but apparently because it is a limited series we will have to be content only with this 1st season. 😢
Can’t wait for your next reactions.
Hopefully they add these characters in the main story through flashbacks.
Oh and for those wondering. Back in those times Royal weddings where Intimate and extermly exclusive. Historically speaking it wasnt till Queen Victoria the first of England did larger weddings that also incuded the general public or lesser nobles became more custom. So needless to say my history nerd self was extermly happy with the Accuracy.
You're going to love this series, it's my favorite and I hear many people saying the same of all 3 Bridgerton Series!
I have read some comments from corset experts correcting all the corset misinformation in Charlotte's speech, so I am just going to put it down to her knowing her brother would have no idea what was true or not and wanted to vent.
Haha. I like your way of thinking for Charlotte’s motivations w/her outfit speech. Lol.
Looking at 🥰 paintings of younger Queen Charlotte she looks like what the old folks call RED BONE. Not passing at all but light skinned. A version of the rapper Ice Spice but with fuller cheeks
In the south we called it the bright side of the paper sack brown club 😂
I just finished watching the entire season. It's so GOOD and takes you on an emotional journey. Getting the backstories of these strong women explains a lot. Can't wait to watch your reactions to the remaining episodes.
She had 15 kids 2 died...
That is her son's daughter that passed not his wife. She is absolutely amazing... both ladies old and young.
@4:31 She did not look disappointed she literally had a little smile lol
26:32 13 surviving children, 2 of the original 15 died. Re season 1 episode 5 with the Emily/Amelia part of the conversation between Charlotte and George (Amelia was the youngest of the 15).
Absolutely loved you guys reactions❤😊Looking forward to the next
Good morning I’m so happy you’re reviewing this. I love the hair and costumage. (I know that’s not a word)
It's a word now 🤣🤣💕
I co-sign this. It's officially a word now.
It's a really good show. I love yall reactions.
We hope to see you next episode. Thank for hanging out with us.
I’ve been watching interviews, but hadn’t seen a reaction video until this popped up on my feed. Loved your insights and humor. The Boondocks reference had me 💀.
This series was beautiful, steamy, and heartbreaking. I would have finished it in one day, but I had a script due the day after I saw it on Netflix.
I enjoyed your reaction a lot, I have finished the show and loved their story it is the best story for me in Bridgerton series ❤ ❤.
Queen Charlotte was the best series I watched in a long time
I binge watched this series and enjoyed it. All the costumes were beautiful. The ending was touching. Thanks for sharing review.
Fun to see someone reacting to this! It’s interesting to contrast this depiction of George III with the version we’ve gotten to know from Hamilton. Fwiw George’s father died before his grandfather so his mother was a princess, she was never queen.
I'm so glad you guys reviewed Queen Charlotte. It was absolutely fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait to see your thoughts on it. I've been sitting one day I may go back and watch it again.
I weirdly loved the scene where the dowager princess was telling Charlotte that she needed to wear the plain simple gown - because it connected to how fabulously extra all of her wardrobe is now that she is queen. She took that comment and was like “oh no, WE are going to be absolutely fantastic”
I’ve said this on another channel as well but it’s so interesting seeing this from an American perspective/ someone who doesn’t know British history and the real story of these real people. It adds extra intrigue and confusion for you guys I feel haha
I really! Really! Enjoyed watching this with you guys, look forward to following more reactions
Binged it loved it & will be watching your reviews
We've been looking forward to this one. So far it's not disappointing.
I will rewatch again together with you. I love charlotte and george’s story! My fave lovestory in the bridgerton series.
I love the questions that y'all are asking, very valid. Shows that y'all are really interested and interested like the"ton" of us, lol. Can't wait to see y'alls reaction to the rest of the season, y'all are in for a treat🥰
4:18 don’t worry I thought they were talking about the brother too 😂
Great review y'all! I always love that you take time at the end to give your opinions and quick theories. I loved this series, just finished watching it all yesterday and I think you both are going to love it too.
2:28 Queen Charlotte’s full name is Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz from Mirow in what is now part of northern Germany.
King George is (obviously) from England.
So they were (by train as I couldn’t find by boat) over 1,134.2 km or over 704.759 miles away
I was looking forward to watching this show so I can watch your reactions. Love you guys.
It seems like y'all don't know a lot about the Charlotte/King George backstory (the real-life story that this series pulls from a lot) and I hate that so many ppl spoiled some of it in the comments (you'll get a lot more in this season AND in Season 2 of Bridgerton). I would just say to remember that it *is* a love story/romance series. :)
Its such a good show I cant wait for u to see it all unravel
I actually like the dress she has on in the garden scene. It's nice she decides to wear her own dress, though, to have some power.
I started watching your Ted Lasso reactions a few weeks ago and now I am so excited to see your reactions to this! Binged this all in a day! It's so good!
Oh yall reviewing my series Queen Charlotte yasssss!
3:35 Ask Anne Boleyn about marrying English Kings 😂
😂😂😂😂damn
He said "Jah" cause he's supposed to be German XD
dam homie you are THE BEASTT!!! i lost itt!!!!
Queen Charlotte had 15 children but 2 of them died very young.
This is a spinoff which I admittedly wasn't too happy with because I was looking forward to season 3 but this surprised me in a good way. made me cry too
Yes that’s Lady Catlyn Stark! 😍
Based on your ep1 review sounds like you both didn’t watch 2nd season where the Queen and King love was briefly shown. This was the best Bridgerton series, darker than the 2 novel to tv stories yet so rich, interesting, the love between Charlotte/Just George, Brimsley/Reynold or Lady Danbury/herself exude depth and layers in the name of love. The young cast talents certainly owned their characters. This series is all about realness of love, it’s not always rosy and grand love needs understanding and patience to last. Look forward to next review
Very beautifully said.
I haven't watched any other these shows. I just found this. and I love it. I need to get netflick
Love this reaction more than all the others I've seen. Y'all didn't cut the episode too much. Let me go to the next ❤️
6:04 she was 17 when she was married to George who was like 22 ish. She also got pregnant when she was 17. Women tend to stop being able to have kids by their late 30s, especially at that time.
She has 15 children in a 21 year period (she was 37/38)
George, The Prince of Wales (later King George IV)
Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany
Prince William (later King William IV)
Charlotte, Princess Royal
Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn
Princess Augusta Sophia
Princess Elizabeth
Ernest Augustus, King of Hanover
Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex
Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge (named after her brother)
Princess Mary
Princess Sophia
Prince Octavius -February 23, 1779 to may 3 1883 (age of death: 4 y/o)
Prince Alfred- born September 22, 1780 to august 20 1782. (age of death: 2 y/o)
Princess Amelia- born august 7 1783
Prince Octavian and Prince Alfred both died from small pox. Octavian died only 6 months after Alfred died. So they barley had time to process Alfred’s death when Octavian died.
thank you guys for this❤❤❤❤❤❤
35:32 I mostly remember Brimsley in the first season as the one Queen Charlotte sends to get fresh tobacco when QC is having tea with Lady Bridgerton. QC says something about the "walls have ears" or whatnot. She knows Brimsley will gossip.
I've just learned that the young actor of Brimsley is Harry Potter's son in the stage play of Harry Potter the Cursed child
Cool & interesting tid bit of information here. I will go look this up since I am curious about the actor & his acting background.
The Queen Mother ( George's Mama) Also Plays Catelyn Stark GOT.
You popped up in my recommended list, and I frickin' love this channel! Subscribing now 🥰
I cannot wait till you get all the answers to your questions, it's such a good series.
Waiting for the next episode reaction
roughly inspired by the real story of King George III and Queen Charlotte
I don't think the series comes back to her skin colour, other than calling her browner than expected and stating that she has "Moor blood", which is North African (interesting people btw). Historians do discuss whether the real Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was actually dark of skin with african features, but her Moor ancestry would be several generations away and most likely not be showing in her skin. Netflix does have a tendency to stir up the historical pot, both with fiction and documentaries. Also the reason why Whistledown starts this season with the "historical fiction" disclaimer, because Bridgerton is getting backlash for colourwashing and inaccurate portrail of absolute racism in the era. Same with the Austen film last year. Diversity among talent is important, but so is the truth. This series handles it very well.
Yes, you could watch this first and then go on to Bridgerton. It works as a good introduction as well as standing on its own. I think some people might find Bridgerton a bit of a letdown as many feel this was the best story of the three.
The brother said Ja which is German for yes but it sounded like an informal: yah
can't wait to binge the rest of ur reactions😍
So happy you're reviewing this! Yay!
Thanks for joining the journey 😊
Thank you for spending your time with us. So much more to come..
Loved y'alls reaction
Immediate subscribe! I love you both and your reactions remind me of myself and my husband watching lol
20:06 cause we gone come thru for US! When we need support! 🗣️🗣️
I love u guysss thanks for the reaction 🎉
Loved the reaction, and without spoiling too much. You get to see a take on George's actual illness. I don't know how much, and apologies if you already know this, but it is widely speculated by Historians here in the UK that George could have suffered from Bipolar, schizophrenia or porphyria, and as a result when it comes to the time period the original series is set in George is so unwell, he cannot rule, and it known as the Regency and George and Charlotte's oldest son ruled in place of his father.
And probably some anxiety or ptsd that only became worse with the increased levels of torture
37:00 I definitely didn't know a lot about the real King George and Queen Charlotte, but I knew that he's referred to as the "Mad King" or "Mad King George," as in mentally ill. And I knew that they did actually love each other, unlike many marriages of that time. Even in Season 1, we see those fleeting moments of love between them. George has a few lucid moments, talks about the flowers in the garden or something that reminded him of Charlotte, and you see the glimpse of the love that had been there. His illness is unknown, but some think he may have been bipolar. And his episodes seem to be triggered by stress (or at least the show seems to hint at that). So then he has the outbursts, like on his wedding night. Older Charlotte keeps asking if he's dead because she's stuck and lonely. She can't remarry cuz he's still alive. He's kinda locked away and "handled" by his servants, so she has no companion.
That conversation about Charlotte being brown was HEAVILY inspired by the conversation surrounding Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and her children.
That's not true. The already said they wrote the script before the Harry and Meg thing went down. There is absolutely no comparisons between them and Queen Charlotte and George other than they are a mixed race couple.
Frankly, if meghan was half as strong as Queen Charlotte in this show and made an effort to do some work, she would have been better received.
It was written before that, but there WERE talks about the real Charlotte being darker than expected. It has been argued that Charlotte was directly descended from a black branch of Portuguese royal family (Alfonso III and his concubine Ouruana who was a black Moor, hence them saying she has moor blood).
@@rachell7744 if Meghan did what work? Work to make sure she was accepted in a family that wasn’t interested in accepting her? Or to be accepted by a highly racist media system that called her “Straight Outta Compton”?
Even her husband had been at odds with his family and the media many times before that. How was she to make a big impact. The biggest impact they ever made was by leaving, tbh
@@ambriaashley3383 very weird when people blame meghan for how she was treated and say she should’ve “tried harder” to please them.
It was a good watch!
The princess that died wasn’t the Queen’s son’s wife. She was his daughter
Love this show! George is not a beast he just knows he has some kind of condition and doesn't want her to know. They did have 15 kids, but only 13 survived to adulthood.
WHHHYYYYYYYYYYYY are you posting spoilers?!?!
@_adrian_sean OMG!!! so sorry😞 didn't mean to. I just know that info from a documentary on Queen Charlotte I saw last year once they announced they were gonna make this spin off. My lips are sealed from now on😪
Oh wow, I want to see more of this!
Great First Episode!
Awesomeee reaction!! 🎉🎉
Queen charlotte died 6 months before her granddaughter princess victoria of kent was born. At 18 she became Queen Victoria and was England's longest reigning monarch until Queen Elizabeth ii surpassed her.
You haven't seen season 2??? *I just fainted*
Really thank you guys for doing this!!!!
