“Who The HELL Do You Think You Are?” | Julia Hartley-Brewer’s FURIOUS Clash With Vegan Campaigner

  • Britons are eating less meat than at any point since the 1970s as the cost of living crisis and the rise of veganism and vegetarianism lowers demand.
Consumption at home fell 12.5 per cent to an average of 854g a week in the year to March 2022, down from 976g the previous year and 949g in the year before the pandemic, according to new figures.
TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer clashes with animal rights campaigner Nathan McGovern over plant-based diets.
She rants: “The majority of people in this country eat meat. Who the hell do you think you are?”
Nathan counters: “It’s just happening Julia, you have to deal with it!”

I can, therefore, make delicious meals out of the cheaper cuts of meat. Here a slow cooker, a variety of spices and marinading for 24 hours adds even more tenderness and flavour. Had a bottle of spiced wine left over from last Christmas, mad e an excellent marinade although I usually make up my own with red wine and apple cider vinegar well spiced.

Horse, on the other hand, is delicious. Whenever I arrive in Belgium, the first things I eat - within a day or two - are horse from the charcuterie, snails from a street stand and mussels in a bar with lots of beer!
I’m largely vegetarian nowadays for reasons of health. I can take or leave most meats, really and don’t miss eating beef, mutton or goose. Not that fussed about foie gras, ortolans or other ‘fancy’ stuff.
It’s just an unfortunate fact of life - for the animals concerned - that pigs, chickens, ducks, horses, frogs (legs of), little sheep, prawns, crabs, lobsters - indeed most shellfish* - are delicious. And nothing on earth will stop me from eating rabbits! ‘Lapereaux’ - the little ones are the best culinary treat of all.

When we joined the EEC, we opened up our fishing grounds to the French and Spanish boats whose net hole sizes were much smaller. Everything got caught! And with the stupid quotas, so much fish was thrown back, dead. The whole eco system is destroyed. Not to mention the Korean or Chinese boats. The Dutch used two super trawlers with a monstrous large net trawled between them. How there are any fish left in the North Sea is beyond me. As a kid when I visited our local fish quay the fish were big, now the boxes with big fish are fewer and fewer. I'm pretty sure that the lower consumption of, not demand for, meat is mostly because meat is so very expensive now! I can't remember the last time I had a juicy steak or some lamb cutlets, unfortunately!

Complaining about Global farmland used for essential food production yet they want to use this land for solar and pathetic windmills which use up to 400 times the land a power station uses. These people are a joke.

Plant based protein is FAR less bioavailable than meat based protein. If you look up the most nutrient dense foods, it's things like salmon, beef, organ meat, and eggs.

I personally don’t buy lamb , beef, or pork unless it has a yellow sticker ( reduced price) simply because it’s gone bonkers price wise- I actually target yellow sticker time and eat great products far cheaper- I once inadvertently bought a burger that was meat free ( surely that’s an oxymoron? ) and god it made me vomit which incidentally would be tastier than in its original form .

Its Called nudging, putting the idea of less/no meat in your diet in public before actually restricting it or highly taxing it - for your own good of course

When families and communities grow their own food and/or have local farms that supply local bakeries and butchers etc none of what they mention is a problem. Animals are treated with respect, Food is organic, the land is healthy, and supply perfectly balances with demand.
All of the issues mentioned are caused by industrialized farming.
