  • In this video, we explore the fascinating world of medieval Scotland and take a closer look at some of the key figures who shaped its history - William Wallace, Edward I, and Robert the Bruce. But rather than relying on the often-romanticized portrayals of these historical figures, we delve deeper to uncover what they may have actually looked like. Through careful analysis of contemporary accounts, artwork, and other historical evidence, we piece together a more accurate picture of the physical appearances and characteristics of these iconic figures. Join us on this journey through time as we separate fact from fiction and discover the "real" William Wallace, Edward I, and Robert the Bruce.

we have no remains of William Wallace, only portraits that were made centuries after his death. I'd rather imagine him looking like Mel Gibson lol

I can say that LongShanks, as you depict him here, was very regal looking.

He was not anything as bad as made out in the movie Braveheart.

@@ronaldwinfield307 I suspect that is true because it was a Hollywood movie meant to keep you entertained and not necessarily accurate as to history.

@@ronaldwinfield307 True. That film was one of the most breathtakingly historically inaccurate films ever made. It was basically a Mel Gibson William Wallace fan fiction.

@@charlottestuart8465 Furthermore in the name of Artistic Liberty the moral character of several historical figures was misrepresented. These misrepresentations were neither favorable nor flattering.

Why does William Wallace look like Willie Robertson from Duck Dynasty? 😂

The only potentially historically accurate depiction here is Robert Bruce whom the plaster cast model is made from his skull by a forensic scientist. The image of Wallace is an 19th century depiction of a man who lived in the 1200s, as is the Longshanks image. So not very ‘real’ with the exception of Bruce. Still another interesting use of AI, however.
