I was already considering the shifting a sacrifice in this song, but now I see that is what makes it beautiful
Any tips/pieces on how to begin integrating shifts? Exercises to shift the position instead of changing strings?
@@anthapersephone7311 try getting really good at the song, then try to shifting, that should help👍
@@heather6154 thanks lol

I’m really bad at shifting, it’s amazing how you shift. For like the 10 songs I’ve practiced I would always watch your videos they help ALOT.
That's great! Remember to release the finger pressure during the shift, so that the finger only touches the string lightly, without pressing. And then shift slowly! All the best!!
@@violingardenacademy shifting from the F# on the D string to the F# on the A string, how much should your bow move? I can't find a middle ground between an awkward pause and a slide that's too long.
@@kugelblitz1557 Not much. On shifts like measure 9 it should end a note near the tip of the bow and on the upbow start a new one. Just practice to make it faster and I’m sure you’ll get it in no time! You could also try putting tape or some kind of marker on the notes to help you land on the notes better. Hope this helps.
Yeeeah same guys! Shifting! Just hhooooooow??
You play beautifully, with a lot of feeling!
Loved it!
Thanks for the compliment, glad you enjoyed it🦋

I was SO confused as to how it was supposed to sound. This video helped SO MUCH, thank you 🙏
I am so glad to hear that! You can also find this piece (and all Suzuki Book 1-4 pieces so far) in SLOW practice tempo, and that helps students even more with their practice. Wishing you all the best!
My son plays the violin and he’s on this piece. Thank you for helping him with good advice.
Hi Enya! You are so welcome! And I am so glad to hear the videos help him. I also have all the pieces in book 3 in slow practice tempo, and a few from book 4 as well, and will be uploading more in the coming year. Thank you for joining the Violin Garden channel and I wish your son all the very best on his violin journey, it is a great blessing for all...
Thank you so much for all your videos they have helped me with performing them perfectly
You are so welcome! So glad they help! Keep up the good practice, and more videos coming soon!!

Wonderful! I am sure you will play it beautiful too! Thank you for watching and keep up the good practice!
@@violingardenacademy Will do!
This was breathtaking. Bravo to the lovely lady playing with your heart 💛
Thank you for listening😊🎻🌷
Perfect violin teacher for home practicing 😊
I was already considering the shifting a sacrifice in this song, but now I see that is what makes it beautiful!
Lol:-) The shifting makes it a bit more difficult technically in this stage of learning, but its so worth it! Enjoy your practice!
@@violingardenacademyyea! It is really worth using the other positions in this song. It adds much more musicality to the learning process.
I had a horrible time with this piece, I didn’t know how to shift to 3rd position, or how to do the rhythm. Thank you so much for this! ❤️
You are so welcome! Am glad to hear this helps you! You might want to look at the ones in slow practice tempo (you can find all of them including the Humoresque on the playlist on my channel) as they are especially helpful in the beginning phase of a new piece! With regards to the shifts - I will make a video soon on how to practice the shifting:-) Wishing you all the best for your practice!😊🎻🦋
Magnifique!!! Bravoooo!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
You play pieces so beautifully that I use your videos to help me get into the rhythm of the music
That's wonderful! Glad it helps your practice!

Trivia fact about this piece - its composer was actually living in the United States when he wrote it!

In fact it was in the summer of 1894 in the United States.

I remember playing this on stage and I was in 2nd grade. The teacher told everyone to memorize it for the concert and I only messed once! I was pretty proud of myself 😂
What a lovely memory! Do you still play it sometimes?

This is beautiful!
Hi Anna Lea, Agi just told me about your youtube channel so I checked it out and I'm so impressed! Amazing work and such a great idea to do this. Super professional videos and so useful for violin students. Absolutely love your work!!! All the best from Melbourne.
Hi Vicki! Wow, thank you so much for taking a look and taking the time to get in touch! I really appreciate it! And so glad you like them:-). Thanks again and much love to you!
So beautiful!! Learning this now ❤
Beautifully played- thanks for sharing!

It sounds so elegant when you play it, completely different from my squeaky mess 😭 I’ve been learning for a year already and still struggling on my fourth finger 😭😭😭
If you have only been learning for a year and you are already learning the Humoresque, it seems as if you are doing very well! Practicing totalisation and scales will help your sound production and 4th finger fitness! There are lots of good exercises in the Suzuki books for that!
you play this beautifully! i am on this peice currently and you helped me very much! thank you!
wow me too
Thank you! I am so glad this is helping you learn it! Keep up the good practice! And more videos are on the way!
So glad its helping! Do subscribe for more videos!

Jolly good show indeed, could enjoy this malodious tune by the seaside on my frigate. Such class bravo !!!
Beautiful! Thank you 🙏
You play beautifully ! I love it
Thank you very much!
Well done!NICE music and rhythm
This has been my favorite peice! I'll practice more to be able to practice this soon! 🥰
If this were to disappear from the Suzuki method, book 3 would literally be just a Baroque dance book!
Thank you very much for your helpful videos. You are almost a virtual teacher of my daughter along with her teacher here.
You are so welcome! I am so glad to hear the videos help your daughters practice and I am honoured to have such a positive impact on her practice🎻✨💚. The most important teacher will always be her teacher at home, and no online classes or videos can replace a real person and the relationship between the student and teacher. Thank you for sharing your experience with these videos, and I wish you and your daughter all the very best on this beautiful journey with the violin! 🙏🎻✨
Nice play! This song is beautiful!
This helped me ALOT, especially on the shifting part, thank you!
Glad it helped!
You are totally amazing! I've been doing this song for a short time and you make me feel like I can do it too!😁😁
Wonderful! So glad to be of help! You can also find all the Suzuki pieces (until book 5 currently) in slow practice tempo on this channel, which should help you even more with your practice! Best regards from Vienna!
sounds even better than before !!!
I’m doing this song for NYSSMA and after watching your video I feel very confident! I only don’t get the harmonic at the end.
That's great! You can also find this piece in a slow practice tempo on my channel, that might be even more helpful. A tip for the harmonic at the end: Bring your hand to the body of the violin, swing your arm to the D-string position so that fingers are hovering over the string, and then reach with your pinky. You need to draw the bow faster than you think in order for the harmonic to ring. In the beginning, it might be helpful to put a little sticker on the harmonic note to provide more accuracy while your body is memorising the motion. Good luck with it and enjoy your practice!

This really helped me thx 🎻
This is my nyssma right now and this is helping sooooo much! Thank you so much and please post more 😊
Very well played.
Really need my right wrist to figure out how to do this...
Is it tense?
@@violingardenacademy not nearly as bad as it used to be but yeah...it doesn't flow or wave organically as depicted here. The more I try to relax my wrist, the more the bow goes all over the place...like over the fingerboard. I know if I started playing violin as a child it would be a different story...but I started at 24yrs old in 2009 (I'm 36now). I practiced regularly for the first 5yrs but then went to graduate school and life got in the way so I've only picked it up again last month.
@@jensdavidsen4557 I see! I am impressed that you started as an adult and that you are playing pieces this challenging, bravo! The issue with the tension in the wrist is most likely related to tension in the bow hold itself. I have wonderful exercises for this which I will post soon, but practicing finger flexibility and strength will increase your bow control. Look out for more videos coming shortly:-)
Hermoso maestra me encanta como interpreta, me interesa ver la partitura con los cambios de posición que realiza, es posible que la pueda compartir? gracias😁

Ahh, so relaxing
Yan Mei Thank you!:-) Glad to hear!
Agree with Yan Mei
Am I supposed to use third position in book3? Just learnt for a year, don’t know anything
Wow, you seem to be learning quickly! Usually we start learning 3rd position in book 3. The section in the Humoresque where I play in the 3rd position, can easily be played in the first while you are getting comfortable with the 3rd position. Keep up the good practice and thanks for watching!
I couldn't remember the name of this piece, but then I found your tutorials and ¡bingo!
nice playing!
I’m going to start this song soon!😊

I generally love Dvorak as a composer!

What’s the tempo for Humoresque?
Hello, ma'am! I'm just start learning and i wonder, if there any microphone that violinist use to make it sound louder? If so, could you please tell me what kind of violin microphone you're using? So sorry for my terrible english🙏
Hi there! I don't use any microphone to make it sound louder. In this video I just used my iPad:-). Sorry to not be able to help any further... But thank you for watching and I wish you all the best for your practice!

Wonderful! So glad to be of help! And you can always go to the video where I play it in slow practice tempo, and thats even more helpful in the beginning! Wishing you all the very best for your practice!
Nice Tune❤🎉
During the "bridge" part from about 1:47 - 2:11 (bars 25-32), it looks almost like you are bowing diagonally - is this intentional? If so why?
Exactly, thank you MinYoongi for that explanation:-) Its all about the sound quality and phrasing, so in addition to what MinYoongi said, one needs to consider how to phrase the melodies, and in this case I did a slight diminuendo by going away from the bridge:-)

omg thank you SO much for all your videos they help me so much. I am having trouble shifting and it is truly amazing how well you do it.
You are so welcome!! Am so glad that the videos help you! You can also find all the pieces in slow practice tempo on this channel and those might be even more helpful at the beginning stage of each piece. A tip for shifting: The most important factor is to release the pressure on the string during the shift. So you play a note with pressure - release the pressure and glide the finger along the string as slowly as you can until you reach the desired note - then apply the pressure again. Also, make sure you hear the goal note in your mind before you reach it! Hope this helps you! With slow practice, anything is possible!!💪🎻🦋

I like your phrasing. I can't seem to play this piece with any feeling or character. :/
same i just started working on it after a while
Thank you! This piece can be a bit tricky for the bow hand, as it requires a lightness to it in the main theme. Each stroke should start and end softly with a "belly" in the middle. Or think of the shape of a banana:-) Teaching phrasing over messaging is too difficult, so I will make some videos on that soon! Make sure to subscribe to get notified! Keep up your practice, I am sure it is better than you think!
