  • Rob from Akai shows us how to integrate their Force and MPC units with Ableton Live, now possible with the latest firmware updates. Find out more about Force and MPC here...
    Akai Force: www.pmtonline....
    Akai MPC One: www.pmtonline....
    Akai MPC Live: www.pmtonline....
    Akai MPC X: www.pmtonline....
Download the latest firmware updates at www.akaipro.com
Once installed onto your device, the MPC 2.7 and Force 3.0.4 updates allow you to fully integrate these powerful units with Ableton live, allowing you full control over the software remotely, so you can essentially now use either an MPC or Force as the central controller in your studio. Once linked, you can control playback and recording, clips can be triggered, effects and devices can be adjusted and best of all, it's all done wirelessly over a Wi-Fi network, so the unit and computer don't need to be near each other.
Find out just how powerful this update is here with PMTVUK and try a Force or MPC out for yourself at your nearest Professional Music Technology store...

The key note here is around 2min mark “you can only have one at a time”, thats right folks not only is the network midi driver causing all your other midi surface controllers to not work (push2 cant coexist), but the akai network midi driver also stops other midi keyboards from working! I spent a grand on this to find it doesn’t work with my workflow. So going back to stand alone mode and just use ableton link to sync tempo instead and just use audio. Ableton Control mode is useless for me. Unless akai do something to allow the force ableton integration midi driver scripts to co exist with other surface controllers. I have proven that novation launchkey komplete control and push2 and akai apc 40mk ii can all coexist without issue. So why does force break all that?

I want to step sequence in Ableton using the Force or play the pads like an instrument, much like the push2 can.
I love that it's wireless and synchronises the internal sequencer via ableton link!

This video was great but missed something critical out when it comes to syncing Force (in Clip Matrix mode) with Ableton and the golden nugget that you should have mentioned at 05:41 was that you have to select 'Ableton Link' as the sync source in Akai Force and then in Ableton you will see the Link button reveal that there is a new device in the Link network. You can see what I man if you pause here and look at the grey header bar. Spent a couple of weeks struggling over this part and I found it poorly documented. But when setup correctly it locks the sync well.
Also, I have found that if I leave my studio for a couple of hours and then come back I have to restart the Force to re-establish the Link. So there is a timeout. I am using a router to connect via ethernet on a home network.
