    I have scoured the internet and CZcams looking for details on how to do this and by far, your explanations are the clearest. Thank you so much, have watched and re-watched this many times. Still a beginner.

    WOW ITS VERY COMPLICATED! KNOW I KNOW WHY MOST HAND WEAVED CLOTH ARE SO EXPENSIVE. I THINK THE LOOM IS THE FIRST COMPUTER EVER INVENTED BY HUMAN. THE PREPARATION IS SO COMPLEX! YOU NEED TO HAVE A VERY SKILLFUL EMPIRICAL MIND AND AMAZING MEMORY TO DO ALL THAT LOOPS. THIS IS ONLY A SMALL LOOM, IN MY STATE WE HAVE A TRADITIONAL CRAFT CENTER WHERE THEY USED HUGE TRADITIONAL SITTING LOOM THAT CAN WEAVE A 2 METER WIDE FABRIC AND THEY USED VERY SMALL TREAD LIKE SATIN AND SILK! IMAGINE THE TIME AND EFFORT IT TOOK FOR ALL THESE OLD WOMEN TO COUNT ALL THAT LOOPS AND TREADS BEFORE EVEN BEGIN TO WEAVE! AND THEY EVEN MADE A VERY ELABORATE PATTERN WITH GOLD AND SILVER TREADS!!!

    Thank you for posting this, I've always wanted to try it but never understood the set up before. I'm not quite sure about the green thread sticks, are they attached to alternating warp threads?

    • @kyoungaecho9906
      @kyoungaecho9906  Před 2 lety +1

      Regarding the green thread sticks.. are you asking about the yarn for Heddle sticks prepared on 07:49 ? If so, Yes, it is to pick up alternating warp yarns in this setting. The opposite set of yarns are picked up by the Shed stick (14:33). Between the Heddle sticks and the Shed stick, both even and odd set of yarn is set up to be picked up for the plain weaving setting.

    Thank you so much for this excellent video, I have a quick question: why do you turn the warp upside down and put in a new lease stick before you begin weaving? Thanks!

    • @kyoungaecho9906
      @kyoungaecho9906  Před 2 měsíci +1

      If you are talking about the section starting 16:03..
      Even though the cord on the Warp Bars is holding the warp threads in 1or1/2- inch divided groups, the woven heading keeps individual warp threads in even spaces, and I flipped the warp to weave the heading in both ends.
      You might see it better in the video below which I used thicker yarn.

      @ivyborden194 Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks for your response! I understand why you put the headings in, I’m just confused why it is necessary to turn the warp upside down, why can’t you leave the same side facing up when you bring the other end of the warp threads to you? No worries if my question is too confusing!

      @kyoungaecho9906  Před 2 měsíci +1

    This has certainly helped me understand this better, but I'm still having trouble here. How is this actually working? I've watched a few times through and i cannot figure out how paying the yarn through is creating the weave. In missing something very obvious here but i can't seem to get it just by watching.

      The Back strap loom is a type of weaving loom. This simple loom is mobile and can be easily made with wood, rope and a strap. If you search for “Back strap Loom” or “Back strap weaving” you would be able to find lots of images and videos. You could search “loom” to learn about different type of looms as well. Wikipedia has a simple description of loom which might be helpful. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loom

      With a bit of cutting and sanding, I made the parts using 1/2 in. & 3/4in. Oak Round Dowels, and 7 /16 in. x 2-1/8 in. Pine Stop Moulding, which I bought from the Home Depot.
      HoIf you look around your house you might find something to utilize; any straight sticks/bar/ pipe and anything that is a bit flat and wider to use as sword/beater.. Of course, you can buy already made backstrap loom which would cost you more.

    I can’t figure out how to get my other shed open, help?????

    • @kyoungaecho9906
      @kyoungaecho9906  Před 2 měsíci +1

      One shed opens by the String Heddles (20:20) by pulling up the bottom set of warps and the other shed opens by the Shed Stick (20:25). It is important to keep the warp tension a bit loosened when you use the Heddle Stick and keep the warp tension tight when you open the shed by the Shed Stick. Also make sure to keep the Shed Stick far away from the Heddle stick when you use the Heddle Stick. I hope this solve your problem.
