    Что делать, образуются катышки..? Это всегда раздражает. Я видел, как перед тем, как еще только начать натягивать нить на палки, их предварительно окунают в крахмальную воду....

      I usually use cotton yarn and yes, it creates fuzz balls causing the heddles locked up. I starched the yarn before which helped some. Many uses nylon thread since they are smoother and doesn’t create the fuzz but fuzz from warp sometime cling to the heddles and locked up the heddles as well… In general, you want to choose smooth, tightly spun (even braided) yarn for heddles. It would be better to be thin taking less space but need to be strong enough. You do not want to use too stiff yarn though since it might cause each heddle not staying in position you set up. There are constant rubbings between warps and heddles while weaving, so depending on what yarn you use for warp and the warp setting, you could consider choose yarn that would create less friction.

    Thank you so much for this excellent video, I have a quick question: why do you turn the warp upside down and put in a new lease stick before you begin weaving? Thanks!

    • @kyoungaecho9906
      @kyoungaecho9906 Před 3 měsíci

      If you are talking about the section starting 16:03.. Even though the cord on the Warp Bars is holding the warp threads in 1or1/2- inch divided groups, the woven heading keeps individual warp threads in even spaces, and I flipped the warp to weave the heading in both ends. You might see it better in the video below which I used thicker yarn. czcams.com/video/y5Br8VTgbgM/video.html

    • @ivyborden194
      @ivyborden194 Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for your response! I understand why you put the headings in, I’m just confused why it is necessary to turn the warp upside down, why can’t you leave the same side facing up when you bring the other end of the warp threads to you? No worries if my question is too confusing!

      I used the figure 8 to attach the heddle sticks to form the first shed but how to I open the second? Every time I try the cross won’t move or open, it’s stuck between the shed stick and the heddles

    • @kyoungaecho9906
      @kyoungaecho9906 Před 3 měsíci

      Regarding your question about the backstrap weaving... One shed opens by the String Heddles (20:20, in my Backstrap Weaving 1 video) by pulling up the bottom set of warps and the other shed opens by the Shed Stick (20:25) . It is important to keep the warp tension a bit loosened when you use the Heddle Stick and keep the warp tension tight when you open the shed by the Shed Stick. Also make sure to keep the Shed Stick far away from the Heddle stick when you use the Heddle Stick. I hope this solve your problem.

    WOW ITS VERY COMPLICATED! KNOW I KNOW WHY MOST HAND WEAVED CLOTH ARE SO EXPENSIVE. I THINK THE LOOM IS THE FIRST COMPUTER EVER INVENTED BY HUMAN. THE PREPARATION IS SO COMPLEX! YOU NEED TO HAVE A VERY SKILLFUL EMPIRICAL MIND AND AMAZING MEMORY TO DO ALL THAT LOOPS. THIS IS ONLY A SMALL LOOM, IN MY STATE WE HAVE A TRADITIONAL CRAFT CENTER WHERE THEY USED HUGE TRADITIONAL SITTING LOOM THAT CAN WEAVE A 2 METER WIDE FABRIC AND THEY USED VERY SMALL TREAD LIKE SATIN AND SILK! IMAGINE THE TIME AND EFFORT IT TOOK FOR ALL THESE OLD WOMEN TO COUNT ALL THAT LOOPS AND TREADS BEFORE EVEN BEGIN TO WEAVE! AND THEY EVEN MADE A VERY ELABORATE PATTERN WITH GOLD AND SILVER TREADS!!!

    Are you sure this is for real...??? The real McCoy and not an algorythm specifically created by Bill Gates to send humanity into infinite dumbness and self deprecation, thus sinking us all in an eternal state of depression...??? I am from Peru and, for your info, graduated from a prestigious East Coast institution after years of intense, global geo-politial science studies that took me (my teacher and two more friends in the class, thanks to my family's political connections at that time with and in the Peruvian Embassy) to that glorious day in the Security Council where the issue of the Suez Canal came about... To shorten my comment: Are you sure that this is the way to make a Chumpi, a simple belt to secure a woman's skirt...??? I have about 12% Quechua and/or Aymara blood and now I know why I am so complicated some times...!!! I am just joking, of course, but all those preparations and protocols seem to be sort of alien and misterious for simple Andean people to go through for whatever... But look who is talking, for goodness sake...!!! Just another simple Andean old woman...

    What thread do you use for your heddles?

    • @kyoungaecho9906
      @kyoungaecho9906 Před rokem

      I used Bonded Nylon (I believe size 138) since I happened to have a spool. I decided to try this yarn considering the warp (3/2 Pearl cotton) was old releasing lots of fibers/fuzz. So I thought this nylon thread might help avoiding warp locking up each other while weaving. Even though it would have been worse if I used softer yarn, I couldn’t avoid from forming the fuzzballs on heddles. But at least it was easier to remove fuzzballs from heddles since they were only built around and not stuck to thread itself (To remove fuzzballs, I used tweezers a few times while weaving). I wonder that it would have been better if nylon thread were a thinner and less stiff, since it was a bit stiff causing hitch knots kept loosening, which was a bit annoying.

    Do you have any tips for weaving a balanced weave fabric without the use of a reed?

    • @kyoungaecho9906
      @kyoungaecho9906 Před 2 lety

      I didn’t use a reed on this backstrap weaving so I am guessing that you are asking this question for when you weave on a loom?? Anyway, I am guessing that the combination of keeping the space between weft yarns for balance weaving, keeping in good even tension of weft and warp, and keeping good enough weft length in each shot when weaving would help, I think.
