Here’s a tip for helping break loose the steering wheel bolt. Place a soldering iron tip on the bolt, let the bolt heat up a little bit, nothing too crazy, that will liquify the loctite allowing the bolt to break free a lot more ease. If one does not have a soldering iron, you can use a hair dryer or a heat gun. Make sure the wires are completely out of the way when doing these methods.
I’ll just use a breaker bar, I’m not getting my soldering iron anywhere near my car. Plus I use mine regularly and there is always little solder on it from use. Gear gun isn’t bad idea but I really think breaker bar will do
I don't know if you can feel the love through the comment section, but.... I really really appreciate the time and energy you put into your videos. Very professional. Your time and effort isn't taken for granted. You're a great man!
This video saved me at least $2000. The Cadillac mechanic told the service writer I required a new steering wheel for a loose paddle shifter. Bull! Followed this video to the second and pulled the air bag and the surrounding piece, tightened up the screw for the paddle shifter, cleaned, back together...20 minutes and no swearing. Caught the screw just in time, it was ready to fall out. A big Thank You from the Windy City.
I've had them break too- I think it was broken when I took delivery after the steering wheel was replaced (inoperative heat). Knees often hit them and they'll break. There was a design change in 2015 to increase switch strength.
Just got done replacing my broken paddle shifter, super easy when you follow his instructions. I especially liked the tap three times on the metal, which really helped to find the airbag spring release. I also didn't have to remove the wiring from the bezel to get to the screw for the paddle shifter. I just moved it aside and got my Phillips screwdriver in there. It all went back together really easy! Can't say enough! thanks again!
Folks, if you watch this, you MUST stay tuned to the end for the outtakes. While not the most informative, definitely the MOST entertaining bit of the video!!! lol
Watching that intro I expected to hear the pizza delivery guy ring the doorbell in the background. Seriously though, great video as always. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for this video! Got my suede wheel finally. Gm accessories cancelled my order. Had to buy one on eBay but instead of spending $300 I spent 216 shipped!
This video and your suede shifter video are great! I'm doing the opposite, however. The previous owner of my ATS had the suede wheel and shifter installed, and I'm swapping them out for new, original leather pieces. To each his/her own in the style department!
Jet Fuel Only you’re videos are great really helpful, i took another route and ordered a suede cover that I sewed on myself which took me about 20 minutes!
Thanks for the vid. I am wanting to switch to suede or heated one as well but I am afraid of fumbling with the steering angle sensor. Your vid makes it look straight forward tho. Any advice besides what you show on vid. Thanks
It is pretty straightforward, no need to worry about the steering angle sensor much. Another person commented that to break the center bolt loose it may help to touch it with a hot soldering iron. This will heat up the metal and make the Loctite glue soft. I think it’s a great tip.
I just did this swap. Thank you for the detailed video. My keyway must be defective too because I need an alignment. Except mine is leaning left and yours was leaning right. Do you think it’s possible that my keyway was just off in the other direction? I’m thinking and alignment will do the trick.
@@JetFuelOnly sorry one more question. Is it possible to be installed “off” even if the keyway looks aligned? I’m curious if the key itself is smaller than the keyway, and it can still be a spline off center either way? Or is the key to keyway relationship 1 to 1?
To anyone considering doing this. That steering lug is not going to come out easily. I used the recommended method and mine cracked 4 times moving about a 1/4 turn. On the fifth try I slipped and stripped the lug. I'm not sure how to get the lug out now. I'm unable to turn it either way. Any suggestions?
After some Google searches, I found that a lot of Corvette guys run into the same problem. They have the same steering lug. A couple of mechanics even said it's a 50/50 shot. The bolt will have to be extracted with an air chisel. I'm told this process can take up to an hour and a half. My ATS is a 2019 it seems like they're using more loctite and more torque on the newer models. Make sure you have an air chisel and some time before you attempt this on your own.
When it gets really bad you can use some 1000 or 2000 grit sandpaper to improve it. I know that sounds crazy but do some googling. I can’t imagine yours needs that step yet I would start with K Monk’s recommendation first
Great tutorial, about the airbag covers, do the leather ones come exclusive to the V-sport? I've had trouble finding info about these I wanna put one on mine but google just thinks I'm looking for the shitty outer wheel leather wraps. Are these as hard to find and ship as the suede one?
I just did mine and the light indicating the heated wheel feature is on will not illiminate and I don't feel any heat after clicking it. All the other buttons work as they should though. I took it apart once and double checked those connections and didn't see anything amiss. Do you think I should contact 404?
This was on a VSport? Did you have heating on your original wheel? There should be a little unit that says GENTHERM with a bunch of wires coming out. That’s the heat controller I think.
I want to buy the Steering wheel from Savage Cadillac the one that is carbon fiber with the flat part on the steering wheel. Is that one as easy to put on as this one? Will it for on a 2014 CTS Luxury edition? Any help would be great. Thank you.
Jet Fuel Only ok great thank you so much. I see that on Savage Cadillac website it says might have to use own buttons do to possible different options. I will have to just double check that. I look forward to getting it. I never use the heating steering wheel anyways. Thx again for the help. Highly appreciated.
I tried to install my suede steering wheel today. I couldn't get off the plastic surround for all the controls off the steering wheel. Felt like I was gonna break it. If I kept pulling on it. Is there a easier way to remove the plastic surround off the steering wheel?
@@JetFuelOnly I couldn't get the bottom part out. I pulled and it felt like it was gonna break. So I can just take from the top off thab to bottom? Not like the video goes bottom to the top.
This is an original GM part. An option you could get on the Cadillac when ordering. Not to say that some GM parts aren’t made in other parts of the world but this wasn’t an EBay wheel.
You can buy a suede wheel with heat. But I don’t think it’s clear yet if you can have a heated wheel of your car didn’t come with one. 404parts might be able to tell you

I have no argument with that man! I love both equally I think. Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing this Video! It was easy as you described to replace my wheel.
Best. Video. Yet.
Excellent instructional video sir!
Love to see the suede shifter install. I have lux CTS, I would like to install the new suede shifter.
Wednesday!
That's a great price. Might look funny with an airbag that isn't black though.
Nice video!😂👍
I'll take a leather steering wheel any day!
I get it man!
🔥🔥
Hahaha thats dope i just did my steering wheel install 2 days ago!
You mean you did it without my tutorial? How?? Lol. Good job man, I know not everyone needs videos but I do. Haha

Hello mr jet fuel are all steering wheels like that ?,the alignment shop just can’t get it right 🤷🏾♂️
Not all but good luck buying, shipping, returning. If the shop can’t do it go to another shop.

My ATS isn’t equipped with the paddle shifters but I want to install them, how can I do it?
I’m not sure about that, you should dig into the ATS Facebook groups I’m sure somebody has tried or investigated this issue.

Heat will help loosen the loctite. But if it’s stripped you best just see a professional to extract it

Can we upgrade our ATS steering wheel to heated steering wheel
No sorry.
För första gången? Hur ofta byter ni Cadillac-killar ut rattarna?
Any way to fix the suede on the doors? Its rough to the touch but I really want to restore it!
I've spot cleaned with Sonax Alcantara cleaner and it worked well. I haven't noticed any issue with mine.
When it gets really bad you can use some 1000 or 2000 grit sandpaper to improve it. I know that sounds crazy but do some googling. I can’t imagine yours needs that step yet I would start with K Monk’s recommendation first
Can I install a newer steering wheel in an older escalade?
Probably not. Wiring is usually the issue.

Yeah it’s the same as the suede- comes with airbag. You can catch them on eBay now and then. Otherwise you can order from the dealer I think.

@@JetFuelOnly yeah V-Sport premium, heat function was working strongly the day before. I'll pull the air bag off and check the specifics out.
How are you enjoying the steering wheel so far compared to the leather?

Where do you get that gauge cluster 😍 is there install video?
You can have a digital cluster swapped in but it must be programmed to you VIN. Check out czcams.com/video/FtvztKS-l5w/video.html
Do they offer one for a 2012 cts v coupe
No but you can send yours or order from after market companies that do custom wheels.

Yes it installs the same. There will be no heat for the carbon fiber but many people don’t care.

Probably similar procedure but wheels are different.

Yup. I live alone too!

Ok ty. I will it another try next weekend.
I wish there was a tan option lol
Yeah what’s with that?
my ats doesn’t have paddle shifters is there any way to cover the holes on the side of the steering wheel?
