Thanks for the Tutorial. I called Mazda to confirm, that the switch does not effect any other systems. They proofed, that it is only for maintanace reason to prevent the motor from activating iStop. BUT if you've installed a Alarmsystem, it will also be disabled by removing the switch!

Yes, your fix did work on my CX5 - THANKS - the (expletive) i-stop had been annoying me for years and Mazda just said you can't turn it off so learn to live with it... BTW, the switch is a warning device that activates when the bonnet/hood is not fully closed, the master warning light will stay on and the -stop light will flash. The manual just says take the car to your Mazda Service Centre to locate and "fix" the problem. It took a bit of Googleing to find out what the problem might be, not the most important warning device that car can have, a warning "BEEP" to say the car didn't lock would have saved me the loss of a few items when I thought the car had locked while I was walking away from it, my previous car would go loudly nuts if it didn't lock on command...

Love these solutions. I read a forum where people had written to Mazda (and others) to change the stop/start system so that you can opt in, as opposed to having to opt out each time you drive it. They said "no".
Apparently this is driven by Euro Greenie policies, where in some countries it's mandatory.
If you're the sort of person that gets a new vehicle every 5 minutes (like a lot of people seem to) it doesn't matter - but as someone who keeps vehicles for 10+ years, this stuff effects longevity and adds to running costs. I have actually seen a Golf Diesel with stop/start FFS.

Unfortunately green policies seem to get stricter every single year. It might produce better readings on a test in a lab, but in the real world over 10 years of driving it's just costing more in fuel and resources to maintain these vehicles.
As you said this might only suit people replacing their car every 5 minutes. But overall these vehicles don't last as long and need to be replaced sooner, leading to the consumption of more resources.
This whole green thing, like everything else in the world, is really just about the money. Under the guise of saving the planet so they can reach into people's wallets.
At least we have these small workarounds for now.

@@showwhite7320 I believe this stop/start crap is a lame way car makers are trying to meet government mandated mileage requirements by having the consumer pay for a marginally effective and potentially dangerous system which people who have it say it was next to useless for saving fuel and most likely leads to increased wear and tear on the starter, battery, and alternator which the consumer would ultimately have to pay to get fixed/replaced. Consider how many extra resources are required to manufacture, install, maintain, and repair/replace these systems which negates any "green" advantages they might offer in the first place. Perhaps you have not been in a situation where you had to move quickly to avoid a collision but your car decides to shut itself off! The aim is not to do nothing but to do something right. This is not it!!

Did this on my Mazda 6 2016. So far , no warning lights and no overall driving issues. Had the Battery Management System Malfunction and the I-eloop warning display on the instrument cluster upon start ups intermittently. Probably from the limited usage of the car. This feature was introduced to get a better EPA test result, but in real world driving for most it doesn't actually save you any fuel, just destroys the starter motor. I went down the path of automating the switching off of I-stop after each restart. This can be done with about $40 dollars in hardware. 2 x Sumitomo plugs to piggy back into wiring loom, a DPDT relay, 85 ohm resistor, fuse tap & an air bag light timer relay. This is easily configured to switch off I-stop a few seconds after starting car + can be removed without trace.

Also many new cars use regenerative braking, meaning that all lost kinetic energy is stored on the battery to furthers cut down emissions on cars. Take for instance Mazda 2 with I-eloop, it has a small battery compared to the normal Mazda 2 also with start stop, but the I loop system stores kinetic energy much faster on a capacitor, and this car also uses start stop. My car is only front wheel drive, but I don't see how this would affect awd. It's apparently something put there to prevent istop kicking in when mechanics are doing tests. So even if you close the bonnet, until you turn the car off again istop won't activate. If it affected the awd system that would be very bad and I can't imagine mazda would do something like that.

⚠️ Disabling the start/stop function by bypassing the open hood sensor disables other functions as well. When the sensors signal that the hood is open, the car goes into a kind of safe mode to allow the mechanic to do his work and also to prevent injuries. So in addition to disabling start/stop, the turn signals will not flash when locking the doors and the hood will not jump up in case of a pedestrian accident, and maybe some other functions will be disabled.

So far the 3 different Mazdas I've done this to (2013 M6, 2019 CX3, 2017 CX5) have all seen no other noticeable effects. I check carefully with each one. Eg alarms, signals blinking on lock/unlock etc. I've checked them all and they all remain functional.
I'd love to know about the bonnet jumping up in event of an accident, but I struggle to see why an important safety function could be disabled by accidentally not shutting the bonnet properly.

The deep cycle battery is double the price of a normal battery. So, the extra $250 you pay on the cost of a battery every 3 years, is equal to or more than the cost of the fuel saving, depending on how much driving you do & the type of driving you do, city or country.
