    I have this boat - it's a decent factory wave for less than half the cost of a dedicated wake boat. And with the extra ballast you can dial it up.

      Our riders had a blast! With the Yamaha Booster and just one bag we had more than enough push for landing tricks and even doubling up!

    thank you! I am taking one for a test ride on Friday and I’m trying to learn everything I can before hand. My 16-year-old is 230 pounds and 6‘2“ tall. I just want to make sure that it’s fun for him and his football friends. My other concern is that, our dock ranges from 2 1/2 feet to 5 feet of depth depending on the year. So I might have to go with the Yamaha just for that reason.

    • @JetBoatPilot
      @JetBoatPilot  Před 16 dny

      @epicaphex1487 you won't beat the shallow water capability of the Yamaha. But if the riders are 200 plus you won't have a ton of fun surfing unless you add more ballast with water bags or steel shot

    I just think for 100k it’s not worth and you might as well get an axis wake boat, that could be your next video whether or not getting a wake boat VS that Yamaha, I like the top end of the Yamaha at 48mph those wake boats only got 35, you could showcase how they handle in the inlet and ocean because wake boats are really for lakes but I’m looking for the best all around boat would a wake boat or this Yamaha be better? That would be a good video

      If I had access to another surf boat we could definitely shoot that. Let me put some thought to it.

      I really wish Yamaha would get serious and add some real ballast. OR make it easier to add ballast without a transom fatsac. I went through the hassle of getting about 2700lbs of ballast in my 212x and it's decent. However, I had to use external timers and switches since the connext on my year wasn't adjustable enough to fill the new bags. Was an absolute nightmare of an install and all in about $1200-1500. Realistically to make a push button surf experience 3000lbs stock would be ideal. I added about 350lbs of lead on the transom surf side, which takes all of 3 mins to move there while the bags fill.

      That's a solid video idea. We're trying to put together a collaboration with a major wake boat brand right now. If successful the video could show off the pro's of the Yamaha and the pro's of the wake boat. Each has their own purpose and are both great boats. That kind of content would be really great for those who are looking to get into boating and eventually will graduate up into more specialized wake boats.

      I don't think the price between a Yamaha 222xd and a 22' Axis are even comparable, especially if you're looking for the best all-rounder and not just a dedicated wake boat.
      Yamaha 222xd -$88,000; All in.
      Axis A225 starts at $99,000-for a base model standard equipment. Most of them are selling at Dealerships for over $120,000, and some as high as $150,000

    Excellent video! I've been really curious what it's like to wakeboard and wakesurf behind one of Yamaha's NON wake models. Like an AR250 or something...what's that like?

    • @JetBoatPilot
      @JetBoatPilot  Před 11 měsíci

      With the right ballast setup it would be great! Add a booster and some ballast and you can get similar results on a non wake model. The wake models just make it more convenient to set it up.

    What is your opinion on the Yamaha 255 XD versus a true wake Boat? Does the Yamaha 255 XD produce a really good wave like a wake boat? Looking for a boat for teenagers to wake surf behind the boat, but I like the versatility of the jet boat. Does the 255XD produce a good enough wave?

    • @JetBoatPilot
      @JetBoatPilot  Před 16 dny +1

      @kengrove6365 the 255XD produces a clean wake but it's not very tall. You'd have a hard time getting a 200 plus pound surfer to drop the rope while surfing. If you're into wakeboarding it makes a pretty nice wake bit again not super tall. If you're looking good for a good all around waterspout platform that is also reliable and super maneuverable then the Yamaha is a good choice.

    Wave looks clean. Did you happen to have the thrust Vectors on the boat? Seems like those creat more spray and harder to get a clean wave.

    • @JetBoatPilot
      @JetBoatPilot  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes we did. New version creates less spray.

    We dialed in the wave on our 222XD for people up to 170lbs but I think we'll need to get that big Fat Sac for anyone over that weight. Factory settings on our lake wont give enough push. Can you paste a link to the model of Fat Sac you're using in this video?

    What year did yamaha first start making a jet boat that you can surf behind

    • @JetBoatPilot
      @JetBoatPilot  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Well that's a tough question. They've offered a 212X and 242X for a while now, but they were not easy to surf right out of the box. You had to add the wake booster or another aftermarket product to get a nice smooth laminar wave. The addition of the hydraulic wake booster in 2021 was really the first time that you could get a clean surf wave without having to do a lot of setup and tuning. I'd also say that of the boats Yamaha makes, the 222XD is probably best for surfing if you're looking for wave size and convenience. If you want to get maximum wave height, the best we've seen is the Yamaha 255 FSH with a booster and about 2000 lbs of ballast.

    How does this model do with tubing and turning (so turning at higher speeds)? I have a 2021 195s (250hp supercharged), and have been so disappointed at how much power it loses when turning. I don't have a ton of weight in the boat either. I'm skeptic of upgrading at this point.

    • @Swatta637

      I checked out my articulating keel and it's attached to a fin-like keel that is unremovable, as it's attached to a base plat that holds the end of the impeller that blasts out water.
      That aside, you're sure this works? Just remove the part of the fin that is turnable, and the boat will maintain turns through higher speeds much better?
      @@JetBoatPilot

    • @JetBoatPilot
      @JetBoatPilot  Před 11 měsíci

      @Swatta637 it will be a ton better. That small skeg will limit the turning radius a bit but it will be better than with the AK installed. Make sure you have some Thrust Vectors installed is you want to maintain low speed control. They flip up out of the water at high speeds so turning radius is not impacted.
