Where in Florida are you central, south southwest northern or panhandle? I’m currently working on a project on radioactivity
The stock tube used in these have a sensitivity to light, so any kind of light that makes it to the tube can throw off the reading, but one cam replace the glass tube in these for a metal SBM-20 tube (a little soldering is required to move the positive and negative clamps out further to accommodate the longer tube (as well as need to be recalibrated).
Not only is the SBM-20 tube better, it's more robust as it's metal, and doesn't have a sensitivity to light as again it's all metal.
Well not anymore, they cover the tube with a black plastic as far as i know,so light doesnt play with the reading.
@@MRKS-1 yeah, I noticed that (looked into the battery compartment on mine and seen the dark cover), I bought mine new a few weeks ago.
Years ago (im not sure when they started putting a plasty covering over them) this wasn't the case with these, the tubes had no cover (other than the case), and some of the tubes was light sensitive, and some wasn't (I can only guess due to how they was manufactured and the quality of the materials and gas they used), and some of the tubes was even painted dark (but i guess it wasn't effective enough or couldn't get the paint onto the glass consistently enough to help stop the issue.
So of you buy new you wont have this issue, if you buy used from eBay you'll probably get ones with the glass tube exposed to light.
