  • "Alaska wants to grow and needs to grow and Hawaiian needs to find a way to accelerate its growth, so this merger would help both with that objective," said Henry Harteveldt who is president of the travel industry consulting firm Atmosphere Research Group. STORY: abc7ne.ws/415HQB2

About those twelve routes: only TWO are duopolies
    (Honolulu and Kahului to/from Portland)

More trans-Pacific competition - yay! United has shown the current strength of demand; they put on a 3x weekly SFO-BNE service a year ago and have just made it daily. They've also just added an LAX-BNE service. Alaska Air really needs to pounce on a non-stop SEA-BNE service. It would be silly to let United get this, when SEA is Alaska Air's HQ. Qantas used to dominate AU-USA routes but the company's bad corporate behaviour has left a bad taste for many Australians, who are now avoiding them, to United's benefit so far, across the Pacific.

I am using all my Hawaiian Airlines points next year before the merger. I have a feeling they will close those accounts.

No fear of that. And after the merger you will actually be able to go to more places over the One World alliance. 👍🏼

one of the best merger in recent history. I loved Hawaiin Airlines' staff but the aircrafts/ company are behind its times. The old adage of ' no wifi over the ocean' is simply not flying with business travelers anymore. Alaska will change that, I hope!
