- In the dark, who can see his face?
In the dark, who can reach him?
He hides like a child. He hides like a child.
Keeps his finger on the trigger
You know he can't stand the day
Shoot out the lights. Shoot out the lights
Keep the blind down on the window
Ah, keep the pain on the inside
Just watching the dark. Just watching the dark
Ah he might laugh but you won't see him
As he thunders through the night
Shoot out the lights. Shoot out the lights
In the darkness the shadows move
In the darkness the game is real
Real as a gun. Real as a gun
As he watches the lights of the city
And he moves through the night
Shoot out the lights. Shoot out the lights
Shoot out the lights. Ah, shoot out the lights - Hudba
have seen RT dozens of times...but one nite, who knows when, he did this at the House of Blues w/ full band and it was transcendent..played so hard and so deep...imprinted on my solar plexus forever
Gives me chills. Thompson and Kooper are masters deserving of great respect. They don't make 'em like this any more.
Yeah. That's Richard Thompson. Props, too, to the great Al Kooper.
I saw Richard at the Masonic Lodge in Hollywood Forever just a few months ago, Spring, 2022. He's older, walks onto stage a little more slowly. But that guitar must have a defibrillator in it because the minute he picks it up--even that big Lowden accoustic he was playing--just seems to take about fifty years off of him and he becomes a transducer of truth and beauty and all things worthy in this brief life.
Want to make the world a better place? Of course you do. And the world hasn't needed it more than it does today. Then find some young person who enjoys music--or one who hasn't yet learned that basic survival skill--and take them to see Richard play live. Acoustic, electric--it won't matter. I can assure you they will be upgraded in the process and as they grow and age themselves they will grow further and deeper into an appreciation, not only of Richard and his wonderful music, but of music in general and of a life that permits access to this kind of magic. Because that's what great music is and if one's life ever depends upon proving the existence of some kind of God I can think of no better ace to have up one's sleeve than the existence of the kind of music one experiences at a concert by Richard Thompson.
But don't procrastinate. None of us are getting younger.
That was beautiful 🥲
Great comment!!
Well said. Music with true soul and feeling. It's one of the only things left that can get you through this goddam f****d up world and help you see light breaking through the clouds.
With the excellent Chad Wackerman on drums which gives me a link to Mr Zappa, another hero of mine.
WTF is he even doing in this solo! Throwing my guitar away right now....
Mr.thompson is demonstrating,in abbreviated form, his familiarity with the twelve tone row. Truly squatting on all things mundane.
Join mine on the pile!!
Greatest comment EVER!
I've never seen Thompson playing a Telecaster before. Perhaps it was borrowed?
With when excellent Chad Wackerman in the house band - which gives me link to
Can anyone provide a date for this?
Link Wray in 1958 "Rumble" chords
Yes, but it's "Rumble" on meth, with suitably psychotic lyrics.
Koop needed to more with RT.
