This is the thing, semi-final 1 is wild and party, song like this can easily stand out with some intimate staging.
I'm really feeling these lyrics at this stage of my life. Everyone has their own painful story but the lyrics sound so universal and relatable. Whether it's relationship, family, life or goal orientated problems the sentiment in this song really fits all. I really hope the televoters can relate. I don't want to see Mama SC go over this. I'll be shocked.
but NOT all of europe wants fun😭 at least i’m not. i miss the good ballads this year. and it will stand out tbh.
I really adore the song, it's currently in my top 5 and I'll definitely vote for it in the semi. But I'm worried for it as well, people at home can make some funny decisions sometimes
This song was kind of a meh for me at the start but now it actually serves an emotional purpose, I had a tough encounter at work the day after it came out and the song helped me get all the emotions out in the following hours of that day since the encounter really stuck with me. Sometimes the quality, melody and beat of a song isn't the most important part, it's how you relate to it and what feelings it provokes, so deservedly it now sits in my number-one spot 🙂
Alesia, this is one of my favourite entries so far! The song is surprisingly polarizing in the fandom. A lot of people are saying this song is super boring which baffles me. The song is so well produced (like top notch), the melodies are excellent and immediately impactful (look at you nailing it at 2:49!), the vocals are great, and the lyrics really speak to the psyche of many right now. So many people are saying this song isn't a "duet" which really confuses me because this song NEEDS to be a duet. The lyrics and music video speak to how we as individuals can be connected to others through our similar experiences. We all feel pain, we all make mistakes, we all experience hopelessness, and we all find it difficult to find joy in a world with so much hate. And yet, humans find it within ourselves to not just tolerate tomorrow, but find hope in it.
Well said! I agree 💯 %
Love this song and not just because I'm Dutch.. I really gravitate towards songs like this.. their voices blend beautifully together and the song sounds so melodic and warm to me, I hope people will feel the same about this like how they reacted to Calm after the storm..
I really love this song - hope it comes to life on stage as I need it in the final!
Thell them girl, it has to qualify.
Thanks for liking our entry, not sure it will fair well with the public. Hopefully we get the staging right and elevate it. Otherwise I'm also fearing a non qualifying entry for us :-(
Actually, it's a grower for me and with the right staging this could be elevated even more
A semi final with all party songs and bangers is a good thing for the Dutch entry. With good staging an d good live vocals this will be something else to vote for.
I think they should close semi-final 1. That would feel like calming down after all the party and summing up emotions.
Yeah, Sweden getting the second-to-last spot with Loreen to be the showstopper moment, and then we have Netherlands closing it with such a delicacy, that could boost their chances!
I think finland is the best option to close semifinal 1
This is so Good.
Definitely one of my favourites this year.
Duncan will be part of their creative team and will travel to Liverpool with them, so the staging will be okay. With juries i would be confident in qualifying, but only televote i am more worried.
Although it's the only duo and only mainstream ballad so far in semi 1, which could maybe help.
This would so easily qualify in semi 2 I'm so sad it might nq as its my favorite so far
It will. 10 out of 15 will qualify in semi 1.
Quality entry.
it sounds like Zedd and Hayley Williams Stay the night
Yeeesssssss!!!! I knew it was familiar phrasing- TY
Yes!!!
This is giving me vibes similar to the The Common Linnets. I was unsure about it qualifying at first, but then the staging (chemistry between Ilse and Waylon included) happend, and it was full circle. The same thing could happen here. The song is well produced, and hits the boxes for me, but we will see.
It didn't really grab me at the first listening but after a few listenings, it has become quite addictive. I absolutely love it now, I love the mood, and it has been on repeat. It's currently in my 3rd place right now after Finland and Slovenia. I think this will qualify for sure.
The thing is, if we had juries in semis this year, we wouldn't have to worry about Netherlands qualifying from semi 1 (I mean, if they were in semifinal 2, it'd be an easy qualifier regardless) cause this would be an easy qualifier with the juries! But since we haven't, and semi 1 is STACKED with lots of great bops, I'm afraid that they might not make it, it could get lost in that semi, the televote could easily forget about it!
And that's my biggest fear for this song, cause it actually does deserve to be in the final! It's in my top 10 currently!
honestly - semi 2 has way more ballads so tons more competition if they were in semi 2... semi 1 is stacked with bops, rockbands and fan faves - which makes it easier for a slower song to stand out, especially if some of those rock band songs aren't as WOW as they appear to be. Having juries would have been better for this entry for sure, but if they do the staging right and have a favourable placing in the semi chances are they might just pick up enough votes to get through.
I like your channel, I love to follow you this year during the time up to the eurovision contest in May. You got yourself a new member!Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
When God Created Duncan Laurence, She Was In A Good Mood.
Rotterdam: Eurovision is coming Home in 2024!
1st listen I was missing something. But now I have grown to love it. Now I hope they can do it good live and with good staging. Otherwise we will not make the final. And because these songs usually are saved by juryvotes.
I'm kinda sad it's not in Dutch to be honest... it's a good song, don't get me wrong, I just like linguistic diversity in the contest.
Or maybe I'm still grumpy about polish national selection 🙈
This in Dutch could have been a MOMENT
Maaan, true! In Dutch, this song could easily stand out more!
sounds like they are taking the Common Linnets formula and adapt it for them.
love this sng get goosbumps of this song my country netherlands is going underatted by people the need tho qualify the qualify 10 time in last 12 years
I’ve watched a couple of reactions to this one and from what I gathered was that most people don’t think it’s bad but it doesn’t do much either. Also since the semis are now televote only, I am worried about it qualifying but I do have hope that they can elevate it during the live performance. For instance in the official track you can hear some subtle harmonies here and there but I think that it will come out much clearer during the live performance which can hopefully elevate the song enough to go to the finals
Catchiest melody of the year award! Love their vocals and the songwriting, like you said, it 'blooms' over time with structure. Netherlands really found a niche doing melancholy ballads it seems haha.
Great reaction! I love the song, real quality!
This song is outstandingly lukewarm for me sadly. I feel like I should like it way more than I do but it just fails to grab me and pull me in like other ballads do. I think it’s just something I’m missing but after the second verse it just kind of plateaus for me and never picks up its energy
I can’t deny that it’s quality but considering it is in Semi 1 I can only really see it being a borderline qualifier at most (unless the staging is outstanding and I’m very open to being proven wrong here 😂)
Love this!!❤️😍😍
You are well to start with ... its always quality !
Good that usa people can televote too and other people arround the world so i think we will get more people voting outside eu...this is a radiohit kind of song to me .
For me is a bit middle of the road, it's nice but a bit MHH, and without jurys in the semis It's gonna be hard for The Netherlands to going true, BUT I can be wrong too, so anyway good luck.
I knew I wasn't the only one who was reminded of a different song when listening to this entry! The first few notes of the verses actually sound very, VERY similar to the first notes of the verses of Stay the Night by Zedd (ft. Hayley Williams of Paramore). They're at different keys, but the note progressions are very similar. Maybe that's the song that you're thinking of?
This will be the shock nq of semi 1, mark my words.
Yes, only that I wouldn't be so shocked. Hopefully, they don't believe into their chances until the 10th qualifier is being announced, bc they've mostly been called out last, otherwise it could lead to a huge disappointment for them and their delegation. And maybe too big of a surprise for the country announced last, unless it's a certain qualifier.
I don’t think this will NQ. I think they will stage it and sing it well. As Alesia said, the televoters are not that wild. Now, its odds in the final are for debate, but I think it’s qualifying (if borderline).
The one I’m actually worried for is Spain in the final. Eaea gives me the vibe that it might underperform in televotes but saved by jury votes. I’ll be happy to be proven wrong.
Lol... This is top5
I was really waiting for your vision. It's true it's gonna be an uplifting year so itś not gonna end at first place but still a nice song. Sweet? I wouldn't call it sweet.but more emotional. Do not forget: we have very religieous parts in our counntry. Mia's part was expressing that feeling.. But maybe too Dutch to explain. Itś probably going between Sweden and Finland right now but that's ok. Just love your love for ESC and your knowledge.
as you said. the televote isn’t that crazy. we like ballads and slow songs as well. remember how well portugal, netherlands, greece did last year. better than latvia for example.
But that was mostly thanks to the juries as well, in the semis, the televote ranked them all out of the top 5 (and put Switzerland who qualified, second to last, and Iceland, in 10th, who was the borderline qualifier of that semi)
Usually for the televote to really love a ballad, it has to be crazy good for them to latch on it!
they didn't very on the televoting...
if last year Portugal was relaying on the televoting in the Semi-Final wouldn't make the final.
@@joaomauricio5696 that's not true. Portugal was 6th with the public as well!
Sorry you right...
anyway in the final Portugal and the Netherlands are penalised by the televoting and afraid this year will be even worst.
i agree and i wait for your Cyprus review, has been delayed!
I love it so much, but we do share the same concerns
But again, The Netherlands have done well with quieter songs, hence 2014 and 2013
It's a different year and different rules though so we'll see, but I'm definitely listening to it nonstop
Its a decent song, theres quality but to be honest its just nothing special....i can see people at home being like "oh sweet...next" and can either be completely forgettable or be a Common Linnets 2.0. We will see in May!
I like the hey jude bit at the end, but its not that memorable. Are the begining notes reminding you of out of sight by Emma Muscat?
Yes, it's a quality song and I'm also positively surprised about the fact that it's not a cringe duet where they pretend to be a couple. But still, unless it's progressing and getting more dynamic and energetic live on stage and/or has a good staging, it will not be qualifying for the final.
Unlike many commentors here I can actually vote in this semi-final. Sorry this is not one of max.2 songs that i am voting for. This is more a jury song
This has Duncan Lawrence fingerprints all over it. Which isn't a bad thing. There's just so much talent in this entry. Any other year... WINNER! However, now that we have a better idea of where the pulse of Europe is... I think/feel that these ballads might struggle a little this year. Staging will be a big factor, just like with Arcade.
It’s good but very safe
If quality is the Netherlands' niche, I'm all for that. But yes I'm worried too. It's solid, it's competent and atmospheric, but yet again there's a Dutch song about sadness and depression, and tbh we've done it better before. Something is lacking here. Maybe it's me, I was actually going through quite a rough time when S10 released her song last year so maybe it hit harder. But Arcade and Grow were also way more impactful. I've given this song quite a few listens now, and I like it but I don't love it.
I feel like my country has a good song, the melody and lyrics are great. I personally don't like the ending, I feel like that part is kinda generic. Overal it's quality, but I'm afraid it won't stand out that much. It will depend on how it will be staged.
This kinda falls in the same category as Duncan and S10 and I was hoping for a different kind of song this year. It is either this dark atmospheric singer/songwriter genre or country/countryrock the last couple of years. (In exception of Jeangu's song) It is time to switch it up a bit.
The reason why people doesn't like this is because it's not "quirky" or "weird" enough. Even Croatia has bigger chance of qualifying without the juries 😭 No juries is seriously the worst idea ever.
Some things were better in the old times, and one of those things is Eurovision when joke entries wasn't really a thing and if there were more of a joke entry they were atleast good.
Is it only me, or am I not hearing the music? Oh, you can skip the "fair use" paragraph. It does not apply. Eurovision probably falls under EU and/or Swiss laws, also inside USA.
They were kinda diaappointing live yesterday.... I am worried
Worthy but saccharine song that needs jury support. No voters at home are gonna be scrambling for their mobiles thinking "Oh, gosh, I really must vote for that".
Don't you think Alesia that...........there's a bit too much big acts, rock, bands, danc, up-tempo in this year's line-up?
I feel this is going to have a hard time qualifying because of the violent mess the first semi is becoming. TBH, this year is extremely hard to predict, but not because of the greatness of all songs. it can go 2 ways, either people watch and think 'what in the ADHD is going n, I like this moment of peace as a breather and vote for that' or it gets lost completely. it's lucky to be in the second half of the first semi, but it will be difficult. That said. I'm more and more disliking Eurovision 2023. Every song seems to be so extremely out there, that I feel it will almost be hard to watch. I hope some more breathers will even it out and no more bands will be selected.
Not feeling this one at all
Listen multiple times
I thinks it's not gonna make it this year!
BTW: I don't mind if it's not your first listen to a song, but please tell your viewers. Because it looks dumb and looses all authenticity.
Uhhhhh… I do that all the time.
This was my first listen.
@@AlesiaMichelle I’m so sorry if that’s the case. I’m watching your videos for years and this one just felt a bit less sincere. Like if you were already informed about what you were watching. And I would understand that but we as viewers then want full disclosure but what’s it worth than being your “first” reaction. I’m taken back what I said. Sorry.
such a bad entry this year
these 2 false singers don't even make it to the finals
It's good, but boring
