As I understand it, Bischoff wrote in his book that he wasn't aware they were there and if he'd have known DX was at the doors, he would've let them in. He said the same thing about if McMahon had actually shown up to answer his challenge. Bischoff's approach was basically "let them do whatever they want because I'd be printing money at that point."

I got my own 10 what if scenarios.
1: What if Magnum TA never had that career ending accident?
2: What if WCW never closed down?
3: What if Vince Russo stayed in WWE during the Monday Night War?
4: What if Steve Austin never got fired from WCW?
5: What if Goldberg never had that cut arm injury in 1999?
6: What if the Finger Poke of Doom never happened?
7: What if Lex Luger never left WWE for WCW?
8: What if Bret Hart never had that career ending concussion?
9: What if JCP was still in business?
10: What if Stone Cold never had that neck injury?

Josh Waldorf You're a bright man my boy! You're #10 "what if" was brilliant because Magnum T.A. was due to become NWA champion at Starrcade 1986 and this would have carried momentum in 1987, potentially warding off Wrestlemania 3.
"What if" Steve Austin doesn't get fired should have been #1 because there's no Stone Cold to put WCW out of business?

What if the Benoit tragedy hadn’t occurred should be on this list
Had Benoit not died, then WWE likely would not have gone PG as quickly as it did. Concussions would not have been a focal point for WWE. Chairshots to the head likely would not have been banned. The locker room would have been different, as Chris was one of the leaders. So WWE may have been a completely different company today had that not happened.
Benoit’s death was the most impactful death in WWE history, and helped kick start the concussion movement in all of sports

What if Scott Hall & Kevin Nash hadn't left the WWF? That means no MSG Curtain Call, Hunter Hearst Helmsley wins KOTR 1996, and therefore no Austin 3:16. IMO their departure was as critical to the success of the Attitude Era as Bret Hart's exit and the Montreal Screwjob. Ironic that WWF's biggest stars going to WCW was pivotal to their eventual success in the MNW.

I'd add that in the "what if Bret hadn't have jumped to WCW?" entry.
If Bret had stayed with WWE throughout 98 - 99 and caught wind that Vince was planning the Owen/Jeff/Debra love triangle storyline as well as what they had planned for the Blue Blazer gimmick (repelling from the ceiling), I can imagine he'd have said something like, "F that, Owen and me are gonna be a tag team", saving everyone from the horror of that night.

While AOL/Time Warner is the ultimate reason for WCW's demise, the reason that decided to pull the plug on WCW had to do with the straight up torn artery level hemorrhage that was WCW's financial situation.
They were, and I'm saying this without hyperbole, only in business because Ted Turner was a bigger money-mark than Dixie Carter ever was.
There's a very good reason that WWE bought WCW for such the fire sale price that they paid.
(Rumoured to be 5 million dollars, almost exclusively for the tape library.)
Chris Jericho has stated in interviews that, when he found out the price WWE paid, he was upset that HE hadn't made a similar offer.

      @phsycresconquest6636 Před 4 lety +2

Caitiff they could have sold it for a much larger price, with Bischoff wanting to buy it out for upwards of 80 million dollars. The higher ups at TimeWarner (not ted) hated WCW and basically made it so that the books read that they were losing way way way way more money than they actually were. If they had used their wrestlers a bit better and Russo a little less they probably would have started to turn a profit. Well a about as much of a profit as TimeWarner allowed by tacking on debts and when they started to turn up make them do more with less. ie WCW Thunder and the nWo Sold out stuff

What if Triple H and Stephanie never gotten married?
I thought for sure that one was gonna be in the list, I mean think about it, if that doesn’t happen, then this also doesn’t happen:
    1. Maybe Chyna and Hunter would still be together and she will be alive and healthy
    2. The reign of terror doesn’t happen and RAW from 2002-2005 is actually watchable
    3. Tripps maybe wins the world title, but not as much as he has and is not treated as the guy like they like to tell you
    4. NXT, the Takeovers, Bálor, Owens, Asuka, Nakamura, Sami, Black etc... would probably never happen if Triple H wasn’t part of the family

He still had had a close relationship with Vince that started beforehand part of which probably stemming from his high interest in the backstage creation/business aspects of it. He was already positioned as one of the top stars being a multi-time WWF champion and fueded with Vince himself even marrying Stephanie in the storyline all before he ever started dating her. If they never married he would still have been treated as one of their top stars, especially after the departure of Rock and Austin, winning more world titles though not necessarily as many as he has. He would have still moved into backstage/business roles in the company as his in-ring career winded down and while he certainly wouldn't have had the power he has right now I can imagine him eventually still being in a prominent position coming up with ideas like the Performance Centre & NXT and just generally helping to get new talent.

    • @TheOman1997
      @TheOman1997 Před 6 lety +1

Sevicify he was in the backstage stuff because of Shawn, and when he started dating Steph it was 1999... 2000 he won the WWF title.

    • @Sevicify
      @Sevicify Před 6 lety +2

TheOman1997 How he got into the backstage stuff is irrelevant (this is about marrying Stephanie), the fact is he was into it because A) he wanted to protect his spot (who wouldn't) and B) he was already interested in that backstage business aspect wanting to learn everything he could about the business. So how his relationship with Vince started is irrelevant (and it's not like he needed Shawn or anyone else to start up a relationship with him), it grew due to his willingness to be involved and learn about the backstage business process.
And he was still with Chyna breaking up with her sometime 2000. Afterwards he started dating Stephanie in 2000 after they grew close throughout their storyline which didn't start until 29th of November 1999 which by that point he had already won the WWF title twice in August and September and would win it again on 3rd of January 2000 little over a month into the Steph storyline. Even if you accept Chyna's allegations of HHH cheating on her you're looking at very late 1999 at the earliest of being with Steph in "secret" and by the time he broke up with Chyna and officially started dating her he was already a 3-time champion, and he still had developed a working relationship with Vince even being invited to production meetings days after Russo left in early September 1999 when he offered his ear to bounce ideas off (as HHH says on Talk is Jericho also saying he & Shawn were previously invited by VInce into phone calls with Russo too where they threw around ideas, he also said he told Vince the other wrestlers getting their panties in a knot over it they can come join in too if they're willing to get up at 10 AM after driving 5 hours).
So again even if he never married her he still A) would have had & continually developed his relationship with Vince, B) had & continually grew his interests/roles in the backstage/business parts and C) would have won more wold titles especially after The Rock and Austin left. Sure he wouldn't be in the same position he is now but you're fooling yourself if you believe he wouldn't have been able to make it to a high ranking position where he could still push ideas such as the Performance Centre and NXT.

I doubt the Attitude Era would have happened if Bret Hart had decided to stay. Hart was vocally against the new direction of the WWE, one that he felt was a raunchy product.
If McMahon had decided to back Hart and let Michaels go (the two could not co-exist) then the WWE of the late 90’s and early 2000’s would actually be closer to what we are seeing in today’s product.

I'm gonna guess for the sake of argument.... We don't get Taker's iconic "goodbye" from last year. In terms of emotional WWE moments, it's up there with Eddie's title win and Flair's retirement.
The whole point of the streak ending was to make a new star but what if part time Taker doesn't lose to that star and the fans turn! A heel Taker maybe?
Lesnar wouldn't be in WWE for another two years after the fact saving us from his squashes against Goldberg and saving Orton's head from his elbows so we'd still be deep in PG nonsense....

      It should have been Punk.
Punk could (but would never be allowed to be) be the face of the E, but he’s always been better as a heel.
Let them have the Main Event at 29, let his original idea of the Shield happen, (hell keep Reigns if you want) but hold off their debut until WM29.
They can help him defeat Taker, making Punk the biggest heel in Pro Wresting ever.
Taker can retire early, or get his win back the next year, but he would have made 4 guys stars taking a loss like that.
Punk could run The Shield like they’re basically Evolution for a year or 2 before one turns on him (Reigns) and than you have 4 guys who got the rub from Taker made into bigger stars in the process.
And I fucking love Taker. I never want to see him lose, but him losing to Punk, giving Punk his Main Event he desperately wanted, and deserved, was actually Best for Business.

Shawn Michaels was already heading down a bad road while he was with the WWE. Had he jumped to WCW, that would've been the end of him. Look at what it did to Bret Hart ? Came over from the WWE off of getting screwed by Vince McMahon at Survivor Series 1997, which they could've easily capitalized on as The Montreal Screwjob was the biggest wrestling storyline at that time but they did nothing with him, then Owen Hart dies in 1999, Hart gets kicked in the head by Goldberg and then his career was over. In hindsight, I'm glad HBK stuck with the WWE.

    Two things:
First, if Hall & Nash hadn't left the WWF there would have been no curtain call, which means HHH wouldn't have been "punished" which means he would have won KOTR 96, which means no "Austin 3:16"
Also, if Bret hadn't left I'm pretty sure the attitude era would have happened. WWF was already going that way and Bret was on board. Remember the obscenity laced "shoot" promo he did on Vince and the fans "If you don't like it tough shit!"
Plus, Vince still would have been involved in some way. They were obviously building to something, perhaps babyface Vince vs Bret (which obviously would not have been great) but they were going somewhere. Bret & Vince kept having physical altercations.
Most importantly though, if Bret's there Owen's not doing the Blue Blazer gimmick.

    #1: What is Wrestlemania 1 wasn't a success?
The entire company was gambled on this one event
#2: What is the WWE Network failed?
Another huge gamble that easily could have bankrupted the company
#3: What if the Chris Benoit tragedy hadn't occurred?
This is the permanent black eye on the company that nearly brought down the industry and made the WWE permanently switch to PG. Also, CTE likely wouldn't have been viewed as seriously in wrestling or pro sports as a whole leading to many more people suffering from it.
#4: What if Vince lost the steroid trial?
Company likely never would have went public, future could have been in doubt, external regulations would likely be implemented on wrestling
#5: What if Stone Cold never broke his neck OR What if Stone Cold never returned after breaking his neck?
WWE could have had their biggest star of all time for much longer or they might not have had him at all. It is unlikely the WWE could have survived the Monday Night Wars without Austin
#6: What if Hulk Hogan never went to WCW?
It is unlikely we would have seen the Attitude era if WWE wasn't desperate and playing from behind after WCW signed the biggest wrestling star in the world at the time. Hogan staying in WWE would have prevented the NWO from forming and thus crippling WCW in the monday night wars.
#7: What if Eddie Guerrero didn't die?
Potential storylines/booking aside, the WWE drug policy would likely never have been implemented meaning many more wrestler deaths could have happened and the locker room would likely still be "dirty".
#8: What if Bret dropped the belt willingly and the Montreal Screwjob didn't happen?
WWE couldn't have afforded Bret's contract so he needed to go to WCW. If he left on regular terms though (which he should have), the WWE wouldn't have come up with the Mr. Mcmahon character which was the #1 antagonist in WWE history and necessary for turning the tide against WCW.
#9: What if The Rock never went to Hollywood?
Ratings likely wouldn't have dropped as far as they did after the attitude era if one of the 2 biggest stars in the company hadn't left. Future stars like Cena, Brock, Orton, Punk, etc would have had a longer, harder road to the top if they reached it at all with The Rock still on top.
#10: What if Brock Lesnar didn't leave the company to play football in 2004?
Brock was already on top of the industry after only 2 years in WWE... the company missed out on many prime years at someone who could have potentially been one of the biggest stars of all time and him being there would have taken pressure off of the WWE to shove John Cena down fans' throats meaning Cena likely would have been better received during the span of his career

This is very interesting, you’ll probably have to do a second list about this topic. There’s so many things that have a huge butterfly effect to them. Example: no Montreal screwjob, no evil Vince, no feud between him and Austin. Or with the Hall and Nash walking out: Austin doesn’t win King of the Ring, we don’t get the 3:16 promo and he might’ve not been the guy like we all know him today. (Both had to do with stone cold but it wasn’t intentional)

Here are my top 10 what if. Thanks for the video.
10 - Owen and Eddie never pass away in 1999 and 2005 -
Owen WWE Champion (not sure at what time, extremely difficult be main eventer in the Attitude Era, maybe a short reign between one or two main faces, but sure he has more Intercontinental and Tag team championships putting over new talent). Eddie wins WHC at S.Series 2005, wrestles HBK at WM 22 and damn, I think we didn't see the really very best of him, more years at his best level building a bigger legacy.
9 - Austin never injuries in 1997 and Rocky never conquers Hollywood in 2003 -
More years at they real 100%, part of the ruthless agression and specially Austin has a lot of dream and good scored matches, Cena, Orton, JBL, Lesnar, Bastista, Goldberg. Both of them has more World Championships and they are a hard step for the next generation.
8 - Chris Benoit just passed away in 2007 -
In my opinion the main fact is that Benoit was ill, the CTE was there for his aggresive wrestling style and more than 15 years without the correct medical treatments, enough reason by itself for take care more of wrestlers and starts the PG Era if we consider Benoit's death the main reason of it. If his death had been the same as Mike Webster's or Justin Strzelczyk's now he would be in the HOF. WWE has today a very huge responsabilty about prevent wrestler injuries (still cheering the decision to stop that Cesaro-Sheamus or Daniel Bryan's retirement). Sure all the fans miss him but WWE points to the CTE as guilty without erase Benoit legacy.
7 - Edge cashes MITB at WM 22 for a match against John Cena and reaches his first WM main event -
Coherent decision for main event WM, but MITB is never seen as a chance for squash an exhausted wrestler, but as a chance for a normal but equal and honorable match. Edge is never that kind of clever and calculating villain who defines his personality so good. No Cena-HHH, no Edge-Mick and that unforgettable spear.
6 - Lesnar never leaves WWE in 2004 - Lesnar-Benoit at WM XX (still dreaming about it) as RR winner and as Smackdown superstar, for a rematch of last december SD when Lesnar taps out . Benoit never is drafted to RAW. No Lesnar-Goldberg, no HBK-HHH-Benoit, Eddie never WWE Champion at No Way Out, no Eddie-Angle for the title and never his WM moment with Benoit (unless he is drafted to RAW and wins WHC same night). With 26 years old Lesnar easily stays around 10 years at his 100%. "John Cena is the guy who carry my bags into the building" becomes a HUGE every day life reality, but Cena is accepted by the fans because of not having endless reigns, never "Cena sucks". No one of the thrid generation superstar has one third of their championships.
5 - Eric Bischoff puts over the new generation and ends nWo storyline in 1998 -
Sting raises as an indestructible character who represents the end of nWo, only Goldberg can beat him by the middle of the year, the main wrestler of the new generation, and the entire nWo is finally defeated in a War Games when team face has every wrestler of the future. By 1999 WCW has Goldberg, Y2J, Benoit, Eddie, Booker T, DDP and Rey Mysterio in upper-midcarder/main eventer status making great rivalries and ratings closer to WWE. Good 1999, never mexican wrestlers unmasked, bad ratings, Vince Russo in WCW, fingerpoke of Doom or good talent leaving the company. Maybe WCW creates a women division, changes to a technical wrestling proposal and includes new kind of matches. Hogan, Nash and Hall leave WCW if they can't contribute something good.
    4 - Never Montreal Screwjob in 1997 -
I agree; is evident that Austin-McMahon rivalry (and many others) would not have been the same without Mr.McMahon character, one of the best heels of all time; the crowd never hates him so much if the screwjob never exists. Austin Era does not have the same power without him and ratings over WCW are not so big.
    3 - Triple H is loyal to Chyna in 2000 -
Chyna is the greatest female wrestler ever, nobody in the whole women roster is able to face her all along the Ruthless Agression Era. Trish Stratus never is 7 time women champion. Triple H never is Vince's son in law, RAW brand is not his playground in 2002-2004, SummerSlam EC 2003 is not a big joke and Goldberg has a long reign. NXT does not have the popularity that has today, nothing about four horsewomen, 5 stars matches or every NXT main eventer that we have seen before go to WWE. Bruno Sammartino and more legends does not come back to WWE.
2 - Jamie Kellner does not cancel WCW in 2001 -
WCW has the main wrestlers of ECW, some years after has the main wrestlers of TNA, that never is founded by Jeff Jarrett. ROH is born in 2002 but their best wrestlers goes to WCW that pay better. WWE never purchases WCW, never has WCW belts and never separates in RAW and Smackdown rosters. MNW continues, youtube is born and WCW stars to put an eye on indie's wrestlers when RVD, Sabu, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, CM Punk and Bobby Roode are already leading the company with the new generation of knockouts; has very good matches and finally invest in good creatives for put the company at the same level as WWE today.
1 - Verne Gagne gives Hogan the WHC over Nick Bockwinkel in 1983 -
Hulkamania runs wild in AWA and the company builds his future around him, Vince McMahon Jr becomes chairman same year and never has the greatest baby face ever, the main wrestler of the Golden Era, the expansion across USA and WWE fails the international market. No Iron Sheik-Hogan. Do we have Wrestlemania in 1985? Does the Golden Era exist? Is WWE known in the whole world? Does Andre the Giant lead WWE by the mid 80's starting Andremania? Does exists drug abuses and premature deaths in wrestling? Are current wrestling fans 10% of real life? Only a mind like Lex Luger's has the answer. "I DONT KNOOOOW!!!"

Wonder what would happen with the Vince McMahon storyline when he supposley had died in that limousine when it blew up if it wasn't for the Benoit incident. Who knows if Vince McMahon would of showed up months or a couple of years later in which he managed to survive or stay dead and never be seen again afterwards.

You discussed what might have happened if Eddie Guerrero hadn't died but didn't even _suggest_ the possibility that Chris Benoit wouldn't have gone off the deep end? At Eddie's memorial show, Benoit got to talk about what his best friend meant to him and said _"He was the one friend that I had that I could go to and pour my heart out to if I was going through something, a personal issue, a personal problem. He was the one guy that I could call and talk to, and know that he'd understand and... he would talk me out of it."_ Achingly sad words at the time, positively _haunting_ in hindsight. If Eddie had lived, not only would Chris, Nancy and Daniel Benoit most likely still be alive, Benoit would have continued to be one of WWE's biggest stars, and WWE would never have received the nasty shock that compelled it to go PG in the wake of the scrutiny the Benoit case brought on them. Somewhat perversely, that may not even have been a completely good thing, as it was Benoit's tragic case more than anything else that finally kicked the company in the ass and made them start to really look out for the health and welfare of their performers.
