  • Located in the county of Norfolk, and around 10 miles southeast of Norwich, is the town of Loddon.
Geographically, Loddon is situated on the south bank of the River Chet - a tributary of the River Yare, with the village of Chedgrave located on the other side.
At the heart of the town is the Church of Holy Trinity. This dates from the late 15th century, when James Hobart, Attorney General to Henry VII, funded its construction in the Perpendicular Gothic style. The church is Grade I listed.
Next to the river is Loddon Mill. This 18th century watermill harks back to the town's past as a producer of flour. Adjacent to it is Loddon Staithe. This was a landing place for single-sail cargo boats known as wherries, which are believed to have been in use along the river here from as early as the medieval era. During the 20th century, both the mill and staithe became obsolete.
Unusually for a British town, Loddon appears never to have had a railway station. Public transport to Loddon consists of direct buses from Norwich, Beccles, Lowestoft and various other nearby settlements.
