It's my understanding that Native Americans primarily sided with the French, British supremacy in the region was more likely to result in conflicts with the various tribes due to the rapidly expanding colonial population. Britain even making laws prohibiting settlement over the Appalachian Mountains, which was one source of tension leading up to the War of Independence From Eastern Pennsylvania. The American Indians of what the States' call the French-Indian War (Seven-Years'-War in Europe) were divided between the Iroquois Confederacy and the northern tribes such as the Algonquin, Lenape, Ottawa, Shawnee, and some others. The later group were dubbed the "en paye" by the French. These native tribes were in opposing camps before 1756, and the Iroquois Confederacy predates settling on the mainland of North America. These alliances with the British and French were along these lines before the war.
The Seven Years War I'd say is why Australia wasn't settled sooner by the Dutch. In a timeline where the Seven Years War never happened, there's one in which the Australians are either Indonesian or a Dutch-speaking peoples.
