  • Wool is one of the most amazing natural materials. For the past year it has kept out home warm in winter and cool in summer, but why has it no value as a raw material?

Great memories of shearing sheep about 25 years ago. I used to catch the sheep for the shearer (gadding) the shearer used to earn about £2 a sheep I would get 20p and I was definitely doing the hardest job. Not complaining they were some of the best times of my life growing up.❤

Palliative care and Mental Health for Farmers. Two VERY worthy causes.
Sandi Brock of Sheepishly Me has talked quite a bit about Mental Health in the Farming community and how, so often, farmers feel alone and isolated and the constant stresses of Nature and Income vs Expenses and societal expectations and preconceptions and so many more factors. Sadly, suicide rates are extremely high in the farming community. I am so glad that the taboo around Mental Health, and in this case Mental Health in Farming is being erased and people like James are shining a light on it and raising money to help those who reach out (and hopefully those who don't know how to reach out, too).

It's full speed clipping up here in Cumbria. Was talking to one of the shearers on the pub, I don't envy his job one bit ...think he did 80+ today.

Oof! It's a hard job. Not appreciated nearly enough. Not even by the sheep! 🤪

I went to agricultural college in the early 80's,so have sheared a sheep once! Nicked the sheep 3 times, and took me well over 5 minutes..so,40+ years later, can still appreciate someone who knows what they are doing :)
