SHOWDOWN 👊💥 (EP.1) 1 House 2 Styles | Tight Sketch vs Loose Sketch | WHICH WINS?!
Vložit
- čas přidán 5. 09. 2024
- I take a reference photo I found on Pinterest of a beautiful looking house and sketch it in 2 ways, one version which is super tight and neat illustrative style and the second loose and splashy sketchy style.
👉 Which one do you prefer?! Let me know in the comments!
1 = lefty tighty OR 2 = righty loosey (yep, I missed a trick there, should have had them the other way round)!

I love both of these sketches so much. That said, the looser one just pulls me in more, and I’m sure part of that is the more whimsical nature of the loose one plus the use of the negative space in the foreground. 🎉
It is "I think" vs "I feel". Both are fab.
I like the way you described this
Love them both but prefer the loose one … and the time needed to create it!
Both are wonderful but I LOVE the expression in the looser sketch ❤
I love the loose sketch. They’re both great, but I think loose sketches are technically more impressive and visually more interesting to look at. Communicating through hints of shape and pops of color without being literal is really hard.
That’s such a great way to express it, thanks Adrian 🙏
Love the contrast... it’s a powerful teaching tool... honestly I like both for different reasons. I think I would employ precision drawing to record heritage or historical houses but for on location urban sketching, the loose form is definitely more manageable and also a great way to do a travel documentary... thank you for sharing!
That's such an insightful comment - you're right, a different technique depending on what you're sketching. Something historical where getting the details accurately would be more important vs capturing the energy while you're urban sketching - that's definitely cemented something in my brain by putting it in this way, thank you!!
Perfectly said 👍❤️
Love both. ❤ but 2 is what I would pick.
Loved this! This house is actually located in Hamilton, Ontario Canada (my city!) and I love both styles so much!
Ahhh that's so awesome!! Finally, I know for certain where this house is from, its a beauty! Thanks Lindsay :)
Loose sketching 💞
TSA.. your very talented,to produce two great examples,of a particular style..I guess now do both style's on one house half and half..ha..🤔
Both are really nice, but the loose sketch is my favorite.
They are both wonderful, however, I’m leaning to the ‘loose’ as it has more quirky character!
Surprised myself thought I would like the tight one more. But the loose one wins for me interesting
Definitely the #2 on the right.
My 8 year old prefers the loose sketch!
Awww 😊
I love the loose one
It looks natural
Loose style....both are great!
I like the one on the left better. Very nice.
I really like both, cant really choose. Both love pieces
I love them both, but the loose style is more interesting to me.
Both paintings are awesome...but I loved the details of first one....❤️❤️👍👍👍😍😍😍💯👍
It's a tough answer. They both look good.
I like the loose sketch, I think the colors pop out more.
The tight one. 😊
I like them both, but like the loose sketch more. I prefer to paint not so precise.I like to let the paint do the work, I prefer watercolor over the other paints because the way it flows and mixes with other colors. Great job and comparison.
Loose one on the left!😀
2 for me 😊
I love both! But the freedom and organic quality achieved in the 2nd really speaks to me. Much more fluid (pun intended) in its form.
This is excellent. I do prefer number 2. Very delightful to watch.
loose is more fun, i do appreciate the effort on the first. probably good to mix it up from time to time.
Thank you J!
I always light the "tight" style better! The loose style is actually much more difficult to pull off. Thank you.
Great video. I prefer the looser one. More to my taste. Still like the neater one though 👍👍
Thank you David! :)
Love both of them but the loose one wins for me. You are giving me inspiration to have a go. Thank you.
Thumbs Down? Unbelievable! Please ignore them Ilove your paintings xx
I like both! Too hard to choose just one.
That's ok, you can choose both :) Ha ha
I love both of these to be honest. Entirely different moods generated by the two styles. The tighter one gives a bright, sunny feel, the wilder one a darker, wilder feel. I really love your style, it reminds me of children's book illustrations.
I guess I’m the odd one out. I do like both but prefer the tight one...probably because I’d find it more manageable as I really rely on using pencil and eraser to get proportions figured out. I’m still developing my artistic eye for these things. Thanks for sharing!
I love them both, but number two matches my personality and it's the one I'd frame!
Your videos have encouraged me to get my sketchbook and watercolours out of storage after twenty years!
Woohoo!! That's fantastic to hear!
Love both but prefer the first one.
Your art is interesting and beautiful!
I like both. So maybe something in between? Like the loose one with more details like outline the plants or something or the tight one with some splashes thrown on
Both are very good but I prefer the loose one. It has a certain character and uniqueness about it.
Love the loose. You seemed to enjoy it more. Do what you love x
Both great. Prefer the loose one.
I like both. I love the left
Love both but gotta go with the loose 😊
Both are well done. Hard to pick. I may lean to the loose sketch but I would hang up the tightdketch on my wall.😊
No 2, every time!
Both are amazing, that’s for sure. But I do prefer the loose one. 👍👍👍
Thanks so much Katherine :)
I really prefer the second one... it seems alive
I like Both , my fav is the right one because sky is interesting
Love both…#2 is my favorite! ❤
I honestly love both styles.
Love both.
i love both styles of drawing! i think they could be used at different times but overall i definitely enjoy the looser style!
The right one, the looser one, is my favorite. I can't for the life of me paint loosely like this.
I think the loose sketch is better because is more abstract and expresive and even noisy, I really like that one although both of them look great
They both have their own charm tbh. I like the fact that you just get on with it as usually a clean page can be quite daunting along with fear of it not working and looking terrible. I don't think it matters one bit that you're not a 'trained artist' as you are learning your skill as you go. I found my Uni Fine Art course useless for training in this respect as we had to do 'exactly' what you are doing now in finding your own way. You can choose to be a loose sketcher/painter or take the more design/architectural option perfectly sketching your vanishing line but the choice is always ours and it's our unique mark making that is recognisable just to us. We'll never get everyone to like our work but that happens whatever style you have so good for you. I think you do great and more than that, you're inspirational to us all with your encouragement and learned tips ;) Loving your vids.
Both of them are beautiful to me!
Really like both but the one on the left is my favorite. My daughter prefers the one on the right.
Thanks Mitzi, glad you both enjoyed the video!
I love both but I think I would go with the loose sketch.
Number 2 , it seems more magical and my imagination runs wild with it
I think I really like the loose one!! Well done!
They are both great pieces but I prefer the looser one because I feel it captures a bit of character that the first one doesn’t-like there’s a story there to tell and it piques your imagination.
Beautiful, Thank you, Taria's Sketchy Adventures, a big hug from Colombia for you
Both are great but I prefer the loose approach! Great video! Thanks
Loose sketch! I need to learn that method of painting. Brilliant.
Love them both and it’s great to be able to paint in both styles. If I had to choose only one, I would probably lean towards the loose one.
Both are great, but i prefer the second one 👌 really cool
I like both, but righty loosely is the one that feels more expressive, which I always gravitate toward. I'm learning a great deal from your posts! I often get my sketches to the stage of lines being down and then choke when it comes to adding in the layers of color and shadow- I either don't go far enough or overdo it. You mentioned the recurring fear of the drawing never progressing past the "a five-year-old did this" phase: it's the same for me and I was grateful to hear someone else say it!! Glad to have discovered your channel. :)
Ha ha - my boyfriend gets frustrated if he hears me complaining my sketch looks like a 5 year old has done it...because I say it every time...and 99% of the time it comes out totally fine. It just has to go through the ugly stage - its a rite of passage...! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
I learned a lot from #1 but like #2 result much more.
Thank you Ilene, thanks for watching :)
I am generally a detail person, so you would think I'd prefer the one on the left, however, I think the one on the right is more interesting, but really I am having trouble choosing one over the other. Both great. Just found your channel -- great art.
Thank you so much Mary - glad you're enjoying the channel!
The left is pretty, the right is also pretty...😁
Both illustrations are superb!
I know its 2 years later but I love the loosey goosey one on the right! Both amazing
The first is more me but both are fabulous!! love your art
I enjoyed your video. I was glad to hear I was not the only one who douted their artwork. I have been going back and forth between Tight and Lose sketches.
Both are great but the first one is more my style guess this is why I prefer it. ❤
I love them both and I'd love to get comfortable with doing both of these
I love them both. I think seeing them side by side, I would "purchase" the tight one because I can see the details that were left out of the loose one. But if I just saw the loose one on its own, I would put down money on it too. You definitely inspire me to not put so much pressure on myself. And I love the idea of letting the first watercolor layer determine the edges of the house. Very organic result. Beautiful!
I love them both ..... but my favourite is the loose one xxx
Both of them are so good it is difficult to decide
Would love to see a mix of both with detailed fine lining and loose colour splashes 😃
Funny you say that Zainab - I have on my schedule to try to use both loose and detailed techniques together in one sketch! Great suggestion 😊
@@tarias_sketchy_adventures waiting
the left one is my favourite
Amazing love it, thank you for sharing.
My favorite is the first one! Enjoyable video, thank you!
The loose one on the right
the loose one, i prefer
Both are awesome 👌
Beautiful work. I like them both. If I had to pick one it would be the tighter one. I can picture it framed and hanging on my wall. Love it.
Thanks Jane!!
I love the loose one.
Number 2 sketch, feel like the soul of the picture comes out more in this lose sketch
Thank you Alexander - great way to put it :)
Love the loose one!
I love them both but the loose one looks like it would be more fun to do...
I'm a real beginner, and love the loose sketch approach and watching your video spurs me on, I love the effect, thanks
Hi Taria, I just bought both copies of your ebook. I love your work and think you have inspired me and I think I would go into urban and travel sketching as a hobby. Thank you for the inspiration. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️Greetings all the way from Singapore 🇸🇬.
Number 2 , I am looking for more loose sketched videos
Loose one is most beautiful
Definitely the loose one 🥰
I love them both but the left is my favorite!!!!!!! I mean the right %)
Can't decide. I love both of them! 💕
