You don't need to use the exact supplies I'm using but if you'd like to know, these are what they are. You also may want to shop around for paints and brushes because prices vary from store to store.
* The watercolours I'm using are the Windsor and Newton Professional 24 half pan set.

* The brushes are Sable Round by Pro Arte and are from this set: www.jacksonsar...

i wish you had been my art teacher. i learned more in 23minutes than i got from four years at school !! your explanations just properly made sense to me. Thx - i learned A LOT
I'm so glad it was helpful, I wish you all the best with your art!
So simple when it's broken down into shapes. I've been trying to tell my kids the same when they say they can't draw..beautiful picture!!
Thank you!
This is exactly what I needed to give me the confidence with watercolours! I was ready to give up! Thank you!
Go for it! and hope you have fun :)
Lou, I really love listening to your soothing and encouraging explanation of everything you do. You simplify everything to the extent that even I can follow, and even more importantly want to engage in small art projects which I may otherwise not have the courage to start. So, thank you!
Completely LOVE LOVE LOVE this tutorial! PLEASE do more building drawings/paintings for beginners!!!!? (Leaving the picture next to your drawing is extremely helpful too!) ty!
So glad it was helpful, I've got lots more building videos on my channel, check the livestreams too.
Thank you for a great tutorial. 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you, I've subscribed and look forward to further tutorials.
Wonderful, thank you!
Imaging recieving one unexpectedly in the post. How lovely ❤
Lovely work! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this video, I'm planning to paint a portrait of mum's house for her Christmas present and this was very useful! Love from Yorkshire ❤️
Wonderful! Have fun painting and I’m sure your mum will be thrilled!
These are really beautiful! Thanks for sharing your process. I"m always so hesitant with shadows, afraid i'll mess up my painting instead of seeing the opportunity to introduce beautiful depth like yours. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, it's always nerve wracking adding the shadow layers, I do take a deep breath beforehand!
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial and especially for the pep talk at the beginning.
You're welcome! It's been a while since I recorded it and I can't remember what I said but very glad it was helpful!
Wonderful! I'm going to surprise my local library with a watercolor drawing of their building, they do so much for people I just want to give back. Thanks for the tutorial!
That's wonderful, so thoughtful! I hope you enjoy painting it.
Love this tutorial! Thank you! I'd been wanting to get away from plants and try buildings and this was a great place to start. Quick and easy success!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Oh my gosh I really like your explanation
And when you started putting shadow on the left side it blew my mind 🤯
Thank you so much...cant wait to try!
Hope you enjoy
Beautiful
Thank you for the comprehensive breakdown. When I try to follow tutorials online I find that I don’t learn that much, because painters rarely explain the reasons behind the techniques. Thank you for this!!
Thank you so much, glad it was helpful!
I really enjoy the way you break things down! Thanks!
Thank you! Your process from start to finish is really helpful. Wish you well in your artistic career!
This is just so helpful to a beginner and also so satisfying to watch! Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much!
Great step by step tutorial! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you!
This was really fantastic. You are an excellent teacher - love the camera work at the beginning where you show exactly what you drew after each step. Thank you!
Thank you very much, so pleased it was helpful.
Hey! Thank you for the video! I used this to paint my family home as a Christmas gift for my parents! They’re gonna love ittt
That’s so lovely, your parents will be so pleased!
Thank you very much for this - very clear and interesting, and explained at just the right level for a beginner like me.
Mike O'Neill thank you!
This is so helpful and so cute!!!
Outstanding instructor...and thank you for letting us know that talented artists like yourself also struggle with self doubt...i have always been afraid to do houses, thanks for making it look so simple and fun...New subbie..
Thank you, I hope you have fun painting!
Beautifully done, and explained step by step in a lovely manner. Very grateful for your efforts. Looking forward to more!
RHCNYC thank you so much!
Lol.. you paint and draw like me.. just enough to make something that resembles a house.. but not enough to be like amazing lines/3D/realistic look. Thx for sharing and allowing us to know there are CZcamsrs that aren't all artists and perfect watercolorists!
this is so backhanded
@@georgiapeplow457 Not backhanded at all.. just being honest and impressed to see someone that paints likes me. If you look at the majority of watercolor artist youtubers that cater to beginners - they are already so advanced there is no way a beginner can reproduce like them. It is refreshing to see someone on CZcams that is different and can inspire a beginner.
Lovely.....😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Hi Lou! Great little house! I love how easy you made this drawing & painting look. Breaking it down into simple shapes will help me tremendously with drawing out the "bones" of the house. I would never have tried this before watching this video, so thanks for the inspiration to try. Your work is awesome! Loving your videos. I have watched four in a row now. Great job! TFS
Happy Creating! Samantha
Thank you, I really hope you enjoy your painting!
I love this (picking shapes). I have always been a gesture and erase out guy. I think proportion was a problem for a long time. So I was adding little bits at a time. INCREDIBLY tedious. Now I pick shapes and am painting in 2 shakes. cheers!
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
Excellent tutorial! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!

Fantastic, you are so clever! .... The door is really to the right though, you have next doors door on your house hehe .... But love it anyway!
Ha ha! Yes I realised as soon as I’d done it but I think you’re the first to notice :)
Wonderful!

Excellent art💙,I hope this channel is very Excellent make big one day.
I enjoyed the video. Do you ever use acrylics?
Thanks, I used to but haven’t painted using my acrylics for a long time. There are a couple of older videos where I’m using acrylics.
🌻🌻🌻🌻🤗🤗
I'm trying to learn perspective and your videos are so helpful. Just one thing, I thought that the entrance door is on the right of the bay windows for each house (looking at the far house on the right), but your door is on the left?
You’re totally right - I didn’t realise when I posted it though!
... Anyway, doesn't detract from the painting. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us, and, since it's New Year's Eve I want to wish you all the very best for 2024.@@LouDavis
Thank you so much - and to you!
Eu amei suas explicações. I loved your explanations. It's so simple, and beautiful. Kisses from Brasil
Thanks so much!
Hello Lou, I like to know how how you sell your art work and how much is worth this particular work? Great job!
Hi! This work isn't for sale but I generally sell digital prints through my Etsy store: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LouDavisArt and I sometimes make originals of works I've painted for this channel available to subscribers of my quarterly mailing list, which you can sign up for through my website loudavisart.com/
💖💖💖💖💖
u made it look so easy😭
Lou Davis..why can't this be done only with watercolour? I mean why sketch first with pen ...then wash...is it for permanence? Is it for bold borders? Or is it because it's difficult in watercolours?
You could paint just with watercolours, it’s just a different look.
Nice… aren’t the doors on the left sides?
Er yes, glad it was just practice this time!
👍🙏💙
That's great but you did it wrong. The door for the middle house was on the right. If you look the one on the end (right) has door on right so the door you used was from the left house. Oh well. Still looks good.
I should've read further down before I commented, lol. Good observation.
It's fine, you can use your Artistic License when, where and however you wish. I love it!!! I never considered doing a building, because I thought there would need to be a lot of measuring to be exact. But if people want perfection they should take a common boring photo. Drawn free hand makes it a warm, human made piece of art.
That is a drawing!!! If I could only draw like that!!! I would need to be taught first.
Thank you, just take it one step at a time, it’s all just squares and triangles.
I would lovea link to the photo so I can ptain along. 🙂
This wasn't one of mine but you'll find lots of reference photos for different buildings to paint on my website.
Ниче не понимаю😁но люблю рисование,поэтому смотрю.блин ну хоть бы один,русский коммент.а то прям как белая ворона среди всех.
Very nice tutorial. Thing only thing that bugs me is that you drew the wrong front door. If you look at the reference photo, the entrance doors are on the right side of the townhouses. You drew the door on the left side, which is fine for this exercise, but as a draftsman I'm sorry I couldn't let it go...
i was thinking that lmao
Get a life! Its a painting, not a copy.
@@exmoorbeastie You replied to a year-old comment that was complimentary with one small criticism. I think it's clear who needs a life, LOL!
That really ist Not important.
@@annabalou6427 It IS important to detail-oriented folks, but thanks for your opinion. Chive on.
Not Cottman? Pro at least. Ghad I have catapults for Cottman. Dan Smith tube paint is my love and I use some W and N pro.
Yes these are Winsor and Newton professional watercolours. I have some Cotman too, they were what I used for years and I take them out when I’m sketching on location. ! I’ve only got a couple of Daniel smith but I really like them.
how can i find photos like this??
If you’re practising and not selling your work you can try google street view or property websites.
@@LouDavis thankss
The name Lou reminds me of tommo
could you straighten up the tablet pls ?? i got a right crick in my neck..................
:) apologies ... let me just go back and tell my younger self to straighten it!
