    Excellent....I want one, I had a whisperlight and it was very dirty, I have a soto regulator gas stove and its very impressive, but I love petrol stoves and the fuel will double as a back up reserve for the motorbike when on trips.......Great instructional video.👌

    The Soto Mika has so many O-rings that are points of failure. The O-ring of the fuel bottle pressure indicator failed, leaking fuel, and there is no replacement o-ring for it. Some forum posts from years ago wrote about receiving a replacement pump from Soto. However, Soto hasn't replied to me. The MSR dragonfly has very fine simmering control and is fully field serviceable with far fewer failures.

      All valid points. Never had an MSR, or infact any other stove other than a Trangia.
      I just enjoy the simple lack of priming.
      I've not had any o ring problems in 4 years. And I always keep the bottle with fuel in it

    Easy and clean like Coleman stoves and half of weight. If they make high-adjustable legs, it is better.

    .
    Bayonet is 'Push AND Twist' as one would do with an actual weaponized bayonet...

    Super cool broX, I covet thy toy. The pop up pressure an air purge look great. Not sure why that lady has problems but it's prolly not the msr. Next do a test with mittens on in the snow at altitude on the pamir with dirty diesel fuel (been there). Keep up them home movies :)

    Great review mate…very helpful…do you leave the pump in the bottle all the time?

    • @EveryWhichWayButLost
      @EveryWhichWayButLost  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes. And normally I leave it pressurised too. Saves pumping the next day

    I loooooove the air-clean feature, to get rid of the excess fuel in the line. My Soto Muka developed a leak in the fuel line though, and apparently I have to send it back to the manufacturer to get fixed, which is a bummer. I'm back to the old-faithful (but sooty) MSR Whisperlite Internationalle for now.

      I had a problem, I contacted the company and they sent me a free new hose, brass tube and pump. The only thing I needed was the brass tube!

    • @EveryWhichWayButLost
      @EveryWhichWayButLost  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, but difficult. I am mastering, getting it low enough. Now I make porridge OK.

  • @Francois_Dupont
    @Francois_Dupont Před 3 lety +1

    very comparable to the whisperlite, even more quality but the fix-ability is less.
    problem is the complex valve (like a coleman easi-lite) with the air and fuel passage, and the lack of wire inside the generator and fuel tube. how are you supposed to clean the generator in the field?

    • @EveryWhichWayButLost
      @EveryWhichWayButLost  Před 3 lety +1

      Haven't had that problem yet. The book says you replace the generator after so many litres (don't know if 20 or 200 haha)

    • @Francois_Dupont
      @Francois_Dupont Před 3 lety

      @@EveryWhichWayButLost alright, here its about twice the price of a MSR Whisperlite. so i let go of the idea of buying a SOTO and bought the MSR instead.

    What fuel is used in the SOTO..? Alcohol..?

  • @AlexOehler
    @AlexOehler Před 3 lety +3

    The MSR also burns clean when on white gas. The soot level just depends on your fuel, in my experience. What are you burning in your Soto? Burning regular gasoline makes the greatest mess in the MSR. But it’s ability to burn almost anything is why I have been using it for 26 years now. How clean does the Soto burn regular gasoline or diesel?

    Can Soto simmer? still ok stove?

    • @EveryWhichWayButLost
      @EveryWhichWayButLost  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, but it takes a bit of practice and use the wind guard otherwise the flame can be blown out

      @@EveryWhichWayButLost thx for answer. How is your pump? i read reports it can leak? and do you need to replace the generator after using it after a while?

  • @longrider42
    @longrider42 Před 3 lety

    Nice looking stove set up, but I still prefer my good old Trangia stove set up. Even if it is a tad bulky. I use Denatured Alcohol and it burns nice and clean and quiet.

    • @EveryWhichWayButLost
      @EveryWhichWayButLost  Před 3 lety

      Yeah, I love the trangia too for quiet and clean and size. But getting fuel in some places is hard and expensive. So changed to petrol

    I was told that boiling water was the favorite discipline of the Muka. But cooking real meals was almost impossible because of the immense heat, even on the lowest setting.
    Can you confirm this? What is your experience with it?

    • @EveryWhichWayButLost
      @EveryWhichWayButLost  Před rokem

      Yep, it's very difficult to get a low heat to simmer food. But boiling water it excels at. I make porridge in the mornings and have to lift the pot to reduce the heat enough.
