I now understand why photographers have two or more cameras. There is no all in one. Some will just be better at certain things than others.

at entry level maybe. More advanced cameras really do have a huge range of features. unfortunately a lot of these entry level ones are intentionally limited , particularly the D3000 series in my opinion.

No, they have two cameras, but usually are identical, but with different prime lenses because they can't afford changing lenses in a photo shoot. Having two different cameras makes you slower

I was asked by my father to look for him a good but cheap decent camera that he can use during his retirement trips across the country. And me, got like 0 knowledge about Cameras and Photography since I'm more of a PC / Gaming guy, had to roam around youtube and Google for tips and reviews for any beginner class and affordable camera and I stumble upon your content. I was at first torn between the two said cameras, but I'm clearly going for Nikon D3500 now. The review and comparison between the two was very comprehensive and even someone like me who's a total newbie to this whole thing did understood the whole process and length of the video. 28mins was really worth it! God bless you sir. Thank you

Another informative video from you Paul. But what I like best? That you don't come down on one side or the other. You give pluses and minuses and leave us to make our minds up. I am looking to upgrade my old Nikon D3200 so this has been useful. I will stick with Nikon as I have a few Nikkor lenses. But without the ability to attach my intervelometer, it would make my night time shots just a bit too difficult. Have to look further up the line I guess.

Nikon D3500 owner, bought as a hobbyist and now moving into professional work (where we shoot w/ Canon 5Ds), I'll share my thoughts. I love my camera, if I were to start over again I might actually have purchased a used 3300 or 3400 instead and spent the money I saved on an extra lens. The lack of external remote for the 3500 means that I've had to use the painfully slow and underwhelming smartphone app for timed shots or self portraits. The 3300 actually has the port to hook up an external intervalometer, and I would have loved the opportunity to do timelapse photography. The more I learned my camera the more I longed for a dedicated iso button (although when shooting wildlife I actually prefer shooting manual with auto-iso enabled). I plan on upgrading to an older full-frame d750 and if you're purchasing a camera with the idea of maybe using it professionally I highly recommend saving up for full frame that has all the bells and whistles. Features to look for: Built-in Timelapse options, because why not, compatibility with with external remotes, AEB (automatic exposure bracketing) which is great for doing some real-estate work on the side, A Dedicated ISO button, Back-Button AF, and >5+ FPS for action and wildlife photography

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  Před 2 lety +1

I love the D3500 but agree that it was a mistake by Nikon to remove some of the features like the Fn (ISO) button and the ability to use the wireless remote. The D750 is a great camera and there are some great second hand deals around as people are selling them to go mirrorless.
      Thanks for watching.
      Paul.

    Very informative Paul.
The lockdown here in Manila has done my new camera fund a power of good.
I am leaning toward the Canon. I saw your earlier review of the Nikon Snapbridge hehe...
The larger size of the Canon would be a + for me.
Here is the disclaimer I will do the footwork and if I do fall across a dealer that just happens to have a D3400 lying about. I will go for that over the D3500 which lost a feature or two in the redesign, which I think was a shame.
However if the lockdown continues then going an extra step up the ladder is possible.
Thanks for a useful vid again

Hi Paul,,, that was a brillient and informative review,,, Im a canon user myself,,, but loved Nikon from an early age. especilly the film cameras,,, (showing my age now) just on one point,,, you mentioned about the size and weight of the cameras,,, and the Nikon being the smaller and lighter,,, Over my long years in photography,,, especilly with the women photographers, ive known and come into contact with all say that the more professional type cameras are to big and heavy for them,,, so they all go for the smaller lighter models available,,, even bridge cameras in some cases, just because of the weight,,, I dont know if you have many women in your subscribers or on your courses as it might be more of an issue to them,,, especilly if they are more on the petite side,,, (just a thought). Great review tho, Cheers

Awesome video! I do mostly outdoor dog and human portraits but I occasionally like getting action shots, which camera do you think would be better?

Great review Paul thanks. I’ve currently got the canon EOS 760d but would like to move up to the next level. What Canon would you recommend? Aviation photography is my main interest as well as wildlife. Many thanks Graham🇬🇧🇬🇧📸

I am on my 4th DSLR now and finally found a winner.
First I got a D3200 and couldn't really figure it out.
    Sold it.
Couple years later, bought a D3400 and remembered why I sold the D3200.
    Sold it.
So I did a little research, bought a Canon SL3.
    Doesn't focus.
Try spending more money on lenses.
    Doesn't focus well enough.
FINALLY, I found a great deal on a Canon T6i.
This thing shows great promise and potential.
It's heavier and the others, but it is going to be MY DSLR companion.
(I am an Avid Bridge Camera user)

Very informative and well presented, however I was disappointed that there was no information as to the transfer of images from the camera to either computer or smartphone.

Hello great video it’s given me a better idea of what i should be looking for. I think i prefer the Nikon out the two however what model would i need for a flip lcd screen. The reason I’m asking is i want the camera for fishing which means a lot of the time I’m on my own so i need to set the camera on timer and position myself correctly. Having a screen i can see just makes things a bit easier. Thanks matt

A newbie to camera (I am mostly point and shoot or iPhone photographs), I found your presentation very interesting and informative. Best of all I liked the fact that whilst talking of a particular function you had the slide of that image to show what it exactly looks like and how to operate those modes. Thank you for such a great video. With this said, I am leaning towards NikonD3500. Is there anywhere I can get a full tutorial of actually how to use each function - I am more of a visual : like videos, rather than a reader : reading manuals and instructions.
