DIY Bat House and Bat Exclusion

- I discovered that I had bats living in the exterior wall of my house, so I kicked them out and made them their own house to live in! Bats are great to have around your yard, especially because they keep the mosquito population under control. It’s illegal to kill bats, so you have to humanely get them to leave their roost. I bought a couple of Bat Valves online, a genius invention that allows the bats to leave their roost but not return. The Bat Valves were $50 each. The cost of hiring an exterminator to get rid of bats can be hundreds or even thousands of dollars. I made the bat house from 1x12 and 1x6 pine, with a maple top. The gap for bats to enter at the bottom is 3/4”.

John, you raised the bar for DIY videos across the board! This presentation has it all… how to, the background story, a fantastic bat house design, tool usage, a father/son project, application of personal safety devices (for you and your son), implementation strategy with Bat Valves, fantastic video coverage of the entire project, and The Batman sound track to boot!! One of the best DIY videos I’ve ever seen! 👍🏻🦇👏🏻
It should win an award.
and you didn't have to kill the bats provided them a new home too Bravo to you
That was a great "how-to" for the box and the exclusion. Good stuff.
Thanks!
This is the greatest thing I have ever seen
You are too kind.
Great all around video on bat exclusion
Thanks! CZcams saved me tons of money by showing me how to get the bats out without hiring an expert.
Are those drywall screws? Those are going to rust super fast outside
Very good video of a bat exclusion and solution. That is a very nice bat house. Do you have this colony in your bat house now??
No, unfortunately when I kicked them out of my house they did not choose to move into my new bat house.
@@wizard_of_eyes I'm sorry to hear that. Keep up the hope. A water source such as a small to medium sized pond might help. Also look into bat gardens. They are a bunch of flowers herbs and plants that put off scents at night that attracts insects and in turn brings in the bats. Just a couple ideas for you. I'm going to try the same ideas myself.
@@wizard_of_eyesdon’t give up hope… the bats may move in next spring, or the one after that 🤞🏻
This is the best video on the entire internet .
😂 That seems unlikely but I appreciate the sentiment.
Also, my condolences. Your mosquito population is going to skyrocket when you kick out the bats. Mine definitely did. I miss them for that reason only!
@PrettyGoodLookin, you’re onto something… definitely one of the best DIY videos I’ve ever seen. 👍🏻
@@wizard_of_eyes Ohhhh... Did not know that would happen. Thank you for sharing this info about the mosquitos.
music is a bit too loud
What is the white screen you used and is it metal or plastic ? What type nails or screws did you use with the screens ? ( I have the same bat situation )
I looked around Lowe’s for something suitable. It’s a plastic corner cover for doing drywall. Cheap, just a couple bucks. They were just some short screws I had on hand, nothing special.
@@wizard_of_eyes thank you !!
