  • In this final vlog from our latest NZ road trip, we made our way from Whanganui to Taupo. First stop after a long drive was naturally to get some food of course! :)
    We ate at a Vietnamese restaurant in Taupo called Saigonese Eatery. Having not had any proper Asian food for a few days during our trip, we were delighted to come across Vietnamese cuisine. Lovely, friendly staff and tasty meals to warm our bellies for the day ahead.
    Saigonese Eatery
    Address: 2 Mansell Road, Nukuhau, Taupo 3377
    Hours: Wed-Mon 11am-9pm
    Closed Tuesdays
    If you want to do the Huka Falls walk alongside the Waikato River bank, don't make the same mistake we did and make sure you take your right (instead of left) when you get to the Otumuheke Stream Spa Park. You can also enjoy a free soak in these warm geothermal mineral waters.
    There are public changing rooms and toilets there as well as a coffee kiosk there too. For directions to this spot using Google Maps enter "Spa Thermal Park". It's a short walk down to Otumuheke Stream. When you go down to the stream, keep it on your left and the coffee kiosk on your right and you'll be on your way to Huka Falls.
    If you want to skip the 90 min return walk and just get straight to the Huka Falls bridge which gives you an incredible up close view of the powerful falls, you'll need to get to "Huka Falls Carpark Access". Here you can park your car and you're only a few short meters away from the bridge and look out points over Huka Falls.
    The carpark is off Huka Falls Road (which also has another great look out point on Huka Falls Loop Rd).
    On our second day in Taupo we went sailing with Sail Barbary to see the Ngatoroirangi Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings. Sail Barbary is New Zealand's only commercial electric yacht. Zero emissions, very quiet, no fumes and eco friendly. It was a great way to enjoy Lake Taupo and to see the Maori rock carvings which you can only reach by water.
    If you're going in summer, after viewing the Maori rock carvings there's a chance for you to jump into the water for a swim if you're keen so bring some togs and a towel if you do!
    We got our tickets through Bookme:
    www.bookme.co.nz/things-to-do...
    Our day ended at Waipahihi Botanic Garden which is a nice peaceful reserve in Taupo created from scratch by volunteers.
    Waipahihi Botanical Reserve
    Address: Cnr Hyde Avenue &, Shepherd Road, Waipahihi, Taupo 3330
    Hours: Mon-Sun 8am-7:30pm
    This Taupo vlog is the last of our 3 part New Zealand, January road trip! We hope you've enjoyed following us along on our NZ travels :)

    Awesome video guys! You guys are great at finding fantastic adventures. It was such a lovely surprise for my wife and I to get the shout out about me doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing while we were Chromecasting your latest Vlogs to the TV. It was watching you guys do the Crossing that inspired me in the first place. We just got back on Saturday from our own North Island road trip to Auckland, Cambridge, Mount Maunganui, Matamata, Tirau, Putaruru, Te Puke, Gisborne, Wairoa, Napier, Hastings, Waipawa and Waipukurau. Keep living the dream Peter and Yen! :)

      Wooah what an epic trip. Gonna need to Google a few of those places that we haven't been to before 😁👍 what did you guys think about the crossing? Enjoy the experience?

      @@PeterandYen my friends Martin and Glen and I loved it ❤. I'd prepared by doing the Manawatu Gorge track from Ashhurst to Ballance and back (over 20km) almost every Saturday and lots of bodyweight training. It was sunny and hot and our hotel arranged the bus and lunches so we just had to focus on enjoying gorgeous Tongariro.
      My wife and I had such a blast on our road trip, catching up with friends and family around the North Island 👍

      Ah sounds so awesome family, friends and beautiful NZ summer. Dunno if things can get any better than that. Yen just mentioned that you guys have already talked about the crossing together. And actually now I do remember us talking about it. My memory isn't what it used to be 🤣 how is the Manuwatu Gorge track?

      @@PeterandYen all good and always happy to talk about it 😃. The Manawatu Gorge is a lovely walk to go on, lots of hills and forest, passing the Apiti Wind Farm.

    Great post guys,and coincidentally,I've been binge watching a lot of posts in the last few days about Huka Falls,and NOW ! Amazing how the colour of the mighty Waikato River looks so awesome at Huka Falls,but by the end at Port Waikato,it's a typical muddy brown - not surprising considering the territory it rolls through,and it's the very river I grew up on. Again,great post and argghhhh - those noodles looked the best,made me hungry. Not sure if you guys live in Karaka Lakes, (sure I saw you down by the lake on one video) but if any of your services go out,e.g. telecom,power,water,gas,it may be us,as we're doing the fibre around there.

      Never been on a luxury yacht but that doesn't sound pleasant at all! 😅 Hmm I think it was around 27 or 28 degrees that day but the thing is the NZ sun is very burning! So easy to get sun burnt here if you're not careful. So yea that on top of the walk and not having water on us was too hot to handle 😅🥵

    • @berttroubleyn3475

      @@PeterandYen You're apologising for complaining about the heat? I'm the very first to start nagging when it gets warm. 28 degrees is more or less my tolerance limit. Which was quite annoying last summer when we were struck with a heat wave with temperatures far into the 30's for 3 frigging weeks :(
      But I'm happy you consider 28 degrees as a hot day. That means your climate is very temperate compared to our 'new normal'.

    • @PeterandYen
      @PeterandYen  Před 3 lety +1

      Aww yikes that sounds hot! Is it easy to get sunburnt there too? In Asia it's really hot and humid but you don't burn like here in NZ.. today we randomly had a cold and wet day 😅 completely un-summery! My mate was in Queenstown last month and said it was beautifully sunny one day then the next they woke up to snow 😅❄️

    • @berttroubleyn3475
      @berttroubleyn3475 Před 3 lety

      @@PeterandYen I remember getting sunburnt really fast when I was in NZ. Apparently the ozone layer that reflects harmful UV rays is at its thinnest over NZ. Lots of skin cancers in NZ, too I hear.
      We don't get sunburnt as easily here in Europe, but we still have to apply sunscreen when going out, of course. It will take much longer before you get burnt, but if you're careless, you will end up just as red and sore ;)
      Snow in summer, what a dream! We're going through a snow spell, too, at the moment, with freezing temperatures day and night (we go as far as -11°C this week at night but the days are reasonable at -2 to -3), but that is rather rare over here. Our previous real cold spell was in 2012.
      And as for Asia: yeah, I avoid going there. I have been on a business trip to Thailand once and it absolutely destroyed me ;) Just to be clear: nothing against Asia, but those hot and humid places are not my cup of tea.

    • @PeterandYen
      @PeterandYen  Před 3 lety +1

      Yea that's right, thin ozone layer here so it's so easy to get burnt and skin cancer is common too. I'm actually at the clinic right now waiting for my friend to get a mole cut out @.@
      Man that sounds way too cold for us hahaha we definitely prefer heat over cold! Our initial plan was to always avoid winter by being overseas but so far that hasn't really panned out lol 😆 Thankfully North Island winters here aren't too bad and extremely rarely snows in Auckland!
