- This video simply shows the testing of FPL's Nuclear Emergency Warning Siren System in Port St Lucie Florida. These tests are done on the 1st thursday of every 3rd month. This one took place 3-5-09. This particular siren is located by Cameo Ave in PSL. Though this video has been trimmed down - the total test time on this date was approx 13 minutes.

@Aidan Katz Those are DMTF tones. In very simple terms you play sounds like pushing numbers on a touchtone phone and certain sequences tell the siren(s) what to do.

in nebraska they have tornado sirens. tested the first saturday of every month from march until september. they are programmed with different alert sounds. long steady sound means severe weather, pulsating with rise and fall is to gather volunteer fire fighters, and rise and fall sound means enemy attack

They were testing the speakers on ALL locations. Not just one speaker. Which is why she constantly keeps repeating it. So that she can get to all multiple speakers online, and emulate a much louder sound for the siren.

When I was a little boy in California, they used to test the air raid sirens and the teachers would teach us “duck and cover” where we’d have to crawl under our desks and wait for the teacher to tell us we can come out. Those air raid sirens used to scare the hell out of me and I’d cry my eyes out. I was in kindergarten and those early grades (1st, 2nd). To this day, the sound of an air raid siren makes my stomach tighten.
Even today, they never mean anything good. It’s either a tsunami, a tornado, or you’re getting nuked. This video was a cringe trigger for me. LOL! Thanks for sharing.

It's literally just a storm siren. They don't blast it for nuclear stuff. They would sound it for tornados or severe weather.

@@joeywissler7769 If it says "Nuclear siren," that's what it's for, and probably all it's for. I grew up a mile from a nuclear power plant, and not sure how things are in other places, but there were sirens setup that could be heard in every direction for 10 miles around the plant. If there were a problem at the plant, the sirens would be sounded to direct you to turn in to a radio for more information.
The sirens were tested regularly, it's pretty damn eerie standing on a hill in the countryside hearing 5+ sirens going off and peaking at different times around you.
Edit: I'm not that knowledgeable about sirens but the power plant near me's alert sirens were P-10s or similar.

I remember living near one as a kid. These things have such a bass to them that they give you that adrenaline feeling in your gut when they go off. Nothing quite like it. I’ve heard sirens in over 13 different states while traveling and nothing sounds as threatening as these.

They don't warn before testing them here either. The look on a foreign exchange student's face was priceless when they went off.
They test the tornado sirens where I live in NE Georgia on the first Tuesday of every month. I can hear several that span the county, so the sound comes from all directions in varying tone and pitch. Some of them spin, which adds to the unsettling symphony. The only time they skip a test is if that first Tuesday has rainy weather, as not spook the community.
Here in Northern Ky it's the first Wednesday of every month at Exactly Noon...

If I were in charge of orchestrating a nuclear attack, which I absolutely wouldn't be - I'm a total pacifist, but if I was, I would find out when they do their tests, and plan to attack then.
You need a different sound than just the regular tornado siren, because the first time it was tested and I was outside and it was sunny, I thought a tornado was about to spawn out of thin air
this system is designed to be a early warning system for the FPL Nuclear Power plant that's right next to Port saint luice
we almost never have tornados in florida and when these sirens go off everybody knows why
