    Great video, I wouldn't have figured it out on my own.
    One nit to pick. The title is "Remove and Install" but there's nothing about replacing the units.

    Looks a bit brutal with the the flat head screwdriver - but the message is received, thanks.
    So most important thing: remember to unplug the ground wire from the battery first...

    This method does not work on a 2003 Volvo s60 base. @ 1:24 you just picked the module up and out. The s60 has some plastic piece that interferes with this, I will update my comment on the procedure I used to get it out when completed. Update, you have to put your hands UNDER the module and pick up while using your knuckles pressing down on the plastic piece. Not that difficult.

    I had to do this a couple years back in my Honda Pilot to replace the climate control lights. It was a very similar process. Unfortunately it wasn't very easy to get to and the lights are only available at the dealer.

    I don't know which model Volvo this is, but I have a 2003 S80 and it does not have a pop out panel at the bottom, which is key to your whole operation. What do I have to do, take the whole dash apart?

    It would have been nice if you had warned us about how removing the heater control without disconnecting the battery will cause a warning from the airbag system to appear on the dash.
    I don't have a means to clear that message and my state inspection is due so I have to pay someone to clear it I can pass inspection. :-(

      You can download the volvo workshop manual/software for free on the internet (torrents) and buy a volvo dice (ODB2) for around 100 bucks. This way you can always read and erase your own error codes. Very useful!

    DO NOT unplug your HAVC module. Two things can happen, you'll get SRS light on the dash once you put it all back together but can only be cleared by the dealer and/or your HVAC module will also short out

    • @danielpeterson1895
      @danielpeterson1895 Před 8 lety +17

      +Iain Richardson et al,The trick to this is to remove the negative lead from the battery before disconnecting virtually any "electronic" unit in a Volvo. Do the repair, reconnect whatever module you unplugged, then reconnect the negative lead. The worst that will happen is you'll have to reset the clock.If a "reboot" is required, try the "thrice key" method. Using your key, lock and unlock the car three times in a row. Crazy, isn't it?

    After doing this my Heat/AC not longer get power. Whats a quick fix?

    • @jefranke
      @jefranke Před 8 lety

      in my experience (and I just went through this) your climate control unit has a short somewhere in it. it will continue to work as long as it is consistently powered. However, disconnect it from battery power, and it will not power up again. My end solution was to get a used climate control unit from a junkyard (eBay, cheap) and install. Good to go. New OEM units are $1200, not a good deal.

    • @MichaelFincham
      @MichaelFincham Před 8 lety

      +James Franke was able to get working by basically shorting out the unit. used a jumper on the thermoster... now working
