Hi all! How are they? Today we bring you a complete biography of Agatha Christie in just two minutes, without saying more, let's get started !!
Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller, better known by the pseudonym Agatha Christie, was a British writer and playwright specializing in the detective genre, for whose work she was recognized internationally. Throughout her career, she published 66 detective novels, 6 rose novels and 14 short stories -under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott-, in addition to venturing as a playwright in works such as La ratonera or Witness for the Prosecution.
She was the youngest daughter of American stockbroker Fred Miller, and British Clarissa Boehmer. Her older siblings were named Margaret (born 1879, died 1950) and Louis, named Monty (born 1880, died 1929). She rarely attended a school classroom, receiving education in her own home in Ashfield, where she had a happy childhood. When her father passed away in 1902 she moved to the city of Paris, where she studied piano and singing with the intention of becoming a professional singer. Before the few omens of her as a vocalist, the future Agatha returned to England.
Born into an upper-middle-class family, she received a private education until her teens and studied at various institutes in Paris. While assisting the wounded during World War I, Agatha devised her first book, "The Mysterious Affair Of Styles", a title that was published in 1920, where she first introduced the character of detective Hercule Poirot . Later she Agatha she became the most widely read writer of all time.
She married in the year 1914 with the aviation pilot Archibald Christie, together they had a daughter whom they named Rosalind, born in the year 1919. Agatha found out that her husband was unfaithful to her with his secretary, a fact that caused the divorce of both in 1926. This infidelity caused various traumas to the writer that she had to solve with psychological therapies. That same year, affected by a supposed depression, she mysteriously disappeared after her car was found abandoned on the side of the road. She was found eleven days later under a possible picture of amnesia, in a hotel under the name of a lover of her husband. In 1930, she married archaeologist Max Mallowan, whom she accompanied for long periods of time on his travels to Iraq and Syria. Her stays inspired several of her later novels such as Murder in Mesopotamia (in 1936), Death on the Nile (in 1936) and Appointment with Death (in 1938), many of which were adapted into theater and film with high acceptance. In 1971, she was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II. Agatha herself passed away of natural causes in 1976, at 85 years of age.
The Guinness Book of Records rated Christie as the best-selling novelist of all time. Two billion copies have been sold, positioning her works as the third best-selling in the world, only behind the works of William Shakespeare and the Bible. Christie is the most translated individual author with editions in at least 103 languages. In 2013, her work The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was voted the best crime novel of all time by 600 members of the Association of Crime Writers.
