The paper that came out of this painting session was absolutely incredible, and I could have planned for it at all!
Using the acrylic paints from the color study, a few acrylic mediums, tissue paper and A LOT of water created some of the most beautiful papers I’ve made yet.
Join me while I experiment with new painting techniques for mixed media projects.

I really loved this video Jackie! Maybe the gloss gel came off easier because of the gloss. I usually make skins in gloss finish because of this. :) Thanks for the awesome video!
Carole, I think you are right - that gloss gel released so easily it may become my new go-to for skins. Tell me do you water it down at all, or just apply it as is for skins?
I use it as is. I will laser print an image on a transparency, then paint the gel over the top and let it dry. It works great. (The transparency is made for laser printers.) I love your work! Thanks for your generous videos! @@PaintedPaperStudio
Such a clever idea - I love it@@CJoyArt!
Those watery colors look so pretty, I love your fearless approach...❤ Gabby M
great way to do this with tissue paper: buy the cheap 13 gallon trash bags and paint the tissue on top, then move the bag aside to dry, get a new bag and paint another piece of tissue. you can use the bags over and over again. tissue comes up very easily.
Great tip, Sonja! Thank you for sharing 🥰
Loved this tutorial, quite inspiring!❤
Thank you very much, Lee! 🥰
'I have never done this exact thing before' great quote and how I roll most days
It would make an amazing bumper sticker 🤣😂😂
I’d have to frame the gorgeous large piece close to the end of your video. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing this wonderful technique. ❤
Thank you, Diana - that was a really fun day of discovery and I am so happy you enjoyed it. 🥰
Love seeing the complete JOY in your voice & face at the beautiful colors!!!❤
Hey Jackie,
I really had a great time watching your almost alchemistic experiments with colours and different mediums. The results are so delicate, and, as you said, there is probably no other way to achieve them except for the way, you did it. That was really unique. The mama-piece is simply gorgeous with its veins. Almost organic. I´d love to see you use the pieces. 🤓
Hugs from Britta 🥳
Thank you, Britta! Delicate is exactly the right word for the look of the results, and yet the tissue papers are pretty strong at the same time. The Libra in me loves the balance 🥰
Loved them all. My fave was the pink pull off the deli paper 💕💕 I would just frame that as it is!!
Thank you, Sharon - I may just do that. 😀
Thank you so much Jackie, I really really enjoyed watching you creating all these amazing and beautiful pieces. I really really love ❤️ all of these. And most of them would make Stunning backgrounds and with very little on top. You wouldn’t want to cover up those stunning design’s that the paint has made. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Awww thank you Mag's! I am so torn (pun intended) on what to do with these - the last video in this series will use papers from each video - I just don't know which ones 😂
I have wet strength tissue, but ive never tried using all that water 😮 Amazing results pulling up the left over colour 😊
Paula - once you start playing with the water, it will be hard to stop - seriously, it's pure magic! 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio it certainly looks fun from the expressions on your face 😊
Your happy face when you pulled the paper up is the best!❤😄
Mary - I get so excited sometimes it's hard to contain it. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment 😀
This video is fantastic! I love your creative flow. Thank you for sharing your techniques.
Thank you, Rhonda - I'm so glad you're here 🥰
The strength of the wet tissue paper!!
Isn't it incredible, Caryn?! I absolutely love it 😍
That is some strong tissue paper‼️‼️
Indeed it is Lynn! 😀
Can’t wait to see what you create with these great papers.
Same here Ivy, same here 😃
This is one of my favorite types of paper to use. I love seeing the colors being applied and the using the tissue paper for different project pieces. It’s fun to experiment and create different patterns. So delightfully inspiring❣️😍👍
Thank you again, Rozani - painting on the wet strength tissue paper is sublime! 🥰
Oh, you’re most welcome. My pleasure. 😀👍
Wow! I was engrossed watching this! Loved watching your experiments and I love the results!
Thank you very much, Lisa! This one was so fun for me 🥰
I just LOVE the transparency of these papers!
Me too, Gina - it took my breath away, and continues to do so every time I try it again. Thank you so much for being here and taking the time to chat me up! 🥰
OMG! HOW beautiful are those papers! Can't wait to try the wet strength tissue paper with beautiful colors you are magic❤
Thank you, Barbara - it's one of my favorite techniques 🥰
Wow! Jackie! I absolutely love all of these experimental pieces ❤ the big Momma especially 😁as soon as I saw your end result of Big Momma I thought of tree branches and I could see the leaves and your water bubbles were raindrops. So much to see in this beautiful piece. You could frame this as is. Such amazing results from one colour exercise!
Yes to the rain drops and tree branches, Sandra - I saw them too! Thank you so much for your kind words - I hope you get to experiment with some version of this 😍
@@PaintedPaperStudio absolutely! Now I need to buy the mediums you used (all are an investment into my art practice! So they will not be wasted I promise you!) Thank you Jackie ❤
@@sandrafisherhayes3219 - the mediums are great investments! My tub of self-leveling gel has been with me for 10 years!
@@PaintedPaperStudio wow! Definitely worth it then! I'll add them to my list 👍
That was so much fun! Thank you for taking us along! It was soooo satisfying and the results were beautiful!
Thank you Robin! I can’t wait tor try it again. No matter how hard I tried to imagine the results, I didn’t even come close…and that was the most satisfying part for me. I’m so happy you enjoyed it! 🥰
Absolutely magical!
Thank you, Frank - that's exactly what it felt like when I was working on it 😀
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
It's really fun to share when the process creates so many surprises! 💜
The pattern that was left behind on deli paper, cover with matte or gel medium put wet strength paper on top and rub over with hands. Let dry and pattern will transfer onto wet strength paper.
Awesome video. Ty 😊
Thank you Belinda! 😀
Cannot wait the part 4 of this series!!
-Thanks Rory - it's coming out later this week 😀
Fabulous video, it reminded me of silk painting the delicate transparency .Thanks for sharing
Lorraine - that is a beautiful way to look at it - I agree! Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave me a note. 🥰
Wow, love this. Thanks so much for sharing your experiments 😊
You are very welcome Bee - the experimenting is my favorite part of creating 🥰
So fun to watch!! Enjoyed the series so far!! Thanks sharing your awesome work!!
Thank you very much, Catherine! 💜
Never thought of using the air paint medium on the wet-strength tissue!! Not to getting those last splatters of paint off the deli paper!! Great tips!!
Thank you, Terry - Airbrush medium creates magic 🥰
I spent an afternoon in my studio making papers awhile ago using acrylic inks and artist tissue paper I cut open kitchen catcher garbage bags so they were flat and worked really wet. I laid them all out on the floor and the next day when they were dry.....I absolutely loved the shiny back side. Still not sure why it's shiney but I love it.
Right?! I don't know why they get shiny, but it makes the (already) gorgeous papers even more interesting. I hope there is a scientist or chemist in our community that can explain this to us 😍😂
These came out beautifully! I would just take that whole big sheet and attach it to a large sheet of paper, and maybe add a few things to it after the fact, but it is a gorgeous painting in and of itself. I'm pretty sure that the mediums made the paper stronger, and therefore easier to peel off. I'm wondering whether if you had WET the wet-strength tissue paper it might have come off more easily. Maybe wet-strength also is stronger wet? Who knows. It's experimentation that teaches us. But these were lovely!
Thank you Janina, I love the way it came out, too! I think the airbrush medium does make the wet strength paper stronger, but that paper is pretty strong all by itself 😍 I guess we will have to experiment some more 😄 Thank you for watching. 🥰
This discovery is absolutely AMAZING! I will definitely try it and experiment!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you Nathalie! I'd love to see your experiments with this 😀
Loved the video 🎉
Just brilliant application. I really like your videos. Am binging them!
Thank you Teri - that means a lot to me 🥰
Beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you very much 😄
Just a suggestion, you could take that gorgeous paper (the big Mama) adhere it with gloss gel medium to a large piece of water color paper and frame it, and hang it to admire it as a piece of art.😄
Gayle, that's a great idea! I still haven't decided if I'm keeping it or using it in another piece (creative dilemma) 😂
Hi Jackie, just been led to this one from your previous paper making video. Soooo many ideas in one place thank you. I was making tissue papers yesterday using inks as an experiment. I didnt like the way the ink seaped through the paper, and also its not wet strength. I will try using medium in the process as you demonstrated, that went well. I was eventually happy with what l did. I think the deli paper you used is what we call greaseproof paper in the UK. Its brilliant stuff. I bet when it was first made they never thought artists would use it. 😁 thanks again for sharing your knowledge........Alioban ❤
Hi Alioban - it's great to see you again! Yes, I believe the US deli paper is the same a grease proof in the UK. And you're right, I bet the restaurant supply industry never saw this coming - wait until the medical supply industry figures out what we're doing with the medical exam table paper (couch hygiene paper) 😂😍
😂😂❤
Merci ❤
Thanks for this. I love freezer paper so, I'll try this...as though I don't already have a zillion papers!
😂😂😂 It's so true - I find new paper (or new use for a paper) and I can't stop myself. Thank you so much for being here, Veronica! 🥰
It’ is so beautiful🙏
Thank you, Virginie! 😀
Beautiful, I love using the wet strength tissue paper , I use it on the gelli plate a lot and get fantastic results, thank you for sharing 😊
What a great idea Debbie! Now I'm going to have to try that too 😂💜
@@PaintedPaperStudio have fun, I find it very addictive 😆
Hello I read your reply.. could you please tell me where I can purchase wet tissue paper. I have looked everywhere NOPE all sold out..
thanks
really enjoying your videos
Thanks Trish! I am so happy you're here. 🥰
Very exciting, I am thinking how to do it with only elmers glue acrylic paint and tissue paper that comes in packages❤❤❤😊😊😊
Super clever idea GB! be sure to let me know how it works out for you - I'd love to know 🥰
Well done! ❤
Thank you very much Cindy! 😀
Love it! Great tip about the airbrush medium (the voice over sounds just like Cat Rains!) 🤔
Thank you Deborah - I do love my airbrush medium 🥰 I enjoy Cat's work - I'll have to listen more carefully to see if I hear it.
If you love it so much maybe you should consider framing it, in a floating frame, or clear Plexiglas frame to show the beauty of the colors. Just a suggestion.🙂
A floating frame is a great idea Gayle - I considering mounting it on a pearl metallic background too. So many possibilities 🥰
Or with soft light behind it to show the transparency
Loved this video, just to clarify which is the mediums do you think worked best. Excited to try
Thank you Lindsey - it was a really fun video to make. The medium that worked the best was the Soft Gel Gloss Medium from Golden Paints 😀
Just found your channel…so very inspiring! Have you ever used these techniques with watercolors, inks or other water reactive mediums?
Hi Robin! I haven't used this specific technique before, but since filming this, I'm playing with it more and more 😀 So far, I've tried it with acrylic inks and even resin pigments. I have to clean my studio to find my watercolors 😂 If you try it with other mediums, be sure to tell me how it goes for you.
They where all great .. The one tore in places I think the medium was too thick for the paper. But great test and I got great Ideas... Thank you
Oh - that's a great observation! The medium might have been too thick - I'll have to try to recreate it. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. 🥰
So happy to have found your videos. The piece you love so much, the large one, have you ever thought of adhering it to a canvas, and just hanging as completed art work? ❤
Hi Diana! I'm so happy you found these videos too! Your idea very good idea, and I may do it - still mulling it over a bit. I almost don't want to put it behind glass 😂
Nice work😊
Thank you, Renee!
Hello! Love this technique!! Can you list the items needed to make this paper, please? It would be helpful. Not sure where I would buy them?? A little help please❤️
Thanks so much sharing this!!
Hi Cathleen, this technique is very fun to do 😀 All the supplies I used are listed in the description of the video. Thank you for watching 🥰
Since you linked to this from yesterday's video, I watched it! Could you pull leftover paint off of Palette paper as you did with deli freezer paper?
Sometimes yes. In my experience the palette paper is a wee bit fickle. I can rely on the deli paper (freezer paper technically) to release the painted paper cleanly every time. Hope that helps, Robin! 🥰
Nice techniques! The wonderful paper cover on your table is very wide. The link in the description is to paper either 17.25" or 18" wide. Where did you find the really wide stuff, please? it would be soooo useful!
Thank you! Yes, the paper on my table is very very wide. I bought a giant roll a few years ago. I can’t find the exact company I purchased it from, but Global Industries has something very close. Go to their web site and search for “Poly Coated Virgin Kraft Paper.” I’ll warn you - it’s massive and expensive. The rolls weighs 50 lbs. The paper is amazing, but when the roll falls over on your foot, you know it…ask me how I know 😆
Thanks for this! Yep, pricey, but a huge amount. Should last quite a while! And by my calculator's reckoning, it's only about 29 cents per linear foot for the 48" and 36 cents for the 60". Actually a reasonably good deal, if you can afford to buy the bulk amount. ...Plus, it appears to qualify for free shipping.
@Xenopticon - I am very happy with my version of this, and yes, for the amount you get, it's a great price!
Hi Jackie, I ordered the wet strength tissue paper from carnival. The box was a wreck and I'm pretty sure it's not 480 sheets. At nearly $100 I'm perplexed.
Hi Anita - I'm sorry your package did not arrive in good condition. Mine came a little crushed from DHL, but it also went fro the UK to Frankfurt to Milan and then to the US - I think a lot of people handled it. Like you, I didn't think it was 480 sheets, so I counted out 100 sheets and then made 4 almost equal-sized piles. It really was 480. If you count them out and it's not 480, I would suggest reaching out to whomever you bought them from. As a side note, when I realized that there were 480 sheets, I took one of the stacks of 100 and cut them down into 6 pieces each - not I have close to 1,000 sheets to play with (that will last me a very very long time 😍. Please let me know when/if you count them. 🥰
Whoops, I meant 1,100 sheets 😀
Hey Jackie, I love all your videos very much. I do have one question: if you don’t have airbrush medium what else can i use?
Love from the Netherlands. ❤
Hello Loes! I haven't tried this technique without the airbrush medium, but I suspect that if you took a fluid medium (either matte or gloss) and mixed with water, you might be able to replicate the airbrush medium. If you give it a try, please let me know. 🥰
Where do we find this type of tissue paper? Is it Carnival tissue? I have gained so much from your color studies. These pieces are remarkable!
Hi Cheryl! Yes, the wet strength tissue paper from Carnival is what I use. It's become very popular and goes in and out of inventory frequently. I hope you can get your hands on it - totally worth the wait! 😍
I loved this! These were grwat experiments I woukd like to try. You have a new follower!
Welcome Cassandra, and thank you for watching, and following - experiments are kind of my thing 😍
Could teabag paper be used?
I have not tried it with tea bag paper yet, but I bet it would work beautifully. If you try it, please let me know. 😀
I just found you. So glad what kind of rice paper do you use?mi missed the type of paint did you use. Thanks
Hi again Lynn! All supplies are listed in the description of the video. 😀
For some reason the wet strength tissue paper is very hard to come by here in the Netherlands. I have just managed to order some from the UK and can’t wait to experiment with it! Thanks for your videos! 💖🍀Machteld
Machteld - it can be hard to get even here sometimes. As far as I know, there is only one company that makes it and they're located in the UK - supplying a global demand. I'm glad you were able to find some and hope you have a great time using it!
Hi Jackie! I noticed you mentioned distilled water in your mister. What is your reasoning for not using tap water? Thanks!
Hi Diane! I use distilled water because sometimes it sits there for weeks without being used. When I do that with tap water it get kind of slimy. I haven't run into that problem with the distilled water. PS - it's the same reason I filter my tap water for drinking water 😜
@@PaintedPaperStudio Ah ok 👍. That’s an interesting thought b/c I just bought some water brushes & promptly filled them with tap water. I think I’ll refill them with distilled water now. Thanks!
Interesting techniques. I wonder if you you could have skipped the tissue paper and simply peeled the dry soft gel medium off the freezer paper (basically a skin). Adding the airbrush medium to a small amount of paint and then coating the tissue paper worked so well. Thanks for experimenting. Where do you buy such large pieces of freezer paper?
Great questions! Yes, you could just use the soft gel medium directly on the freezer paper. It works very well and you get really interesting results. I got my freezer paper from Amazon about 2 years ago. It's a massive roll 4' x 1000' (I think) - I use it to cover my worktable and for projects. I have listed a comparable roll in the description, it's a bit smaller, but still quite large for this type of project.
Please can you explain the airbrush medium? I just recently found you through recommendations and have enjoyed the color study. Ive already got a Golden wishlist going for my birthday in March becauseof your color study. (My Christmas wishlist is full 😂)
I love an artist who does early wishlist planning (and love the name Kricket!). The airbrush medium is an acrylic medium that does a beautiful job of thinning out any acrylic paint or ink you mix. It makes for very wet paint, perfect for use in wet on wet paintings or when you seek a watercolor-type effect with acrylics. I bought it originally to create drippy graffiti-like marks when painting on vertical surfaces 😍 Does that help?
Thanks for this Jackie! Where do you get your tissue paper? Did not see it in the supply list.
OMGosh Karen - thank you for telling me, I can't believe I forgot to list the star of the show! I just dropped a link in the description. I have purchased from several different vendors, but Amazon was the best experience - the pricing (per sheet) was pretty much the same everywhere, but shipping on the other vendors took weeks. I hope you get some and start playing - it's so much fun! 🥰
Hello great video…. Happy Holiday… I can’t find wet strength tissue paper ANYWHERE! Please direct me where I can get some so I can follow your lead. Thanks
Happy Holidays, Lynn. As of two weeks ago, there appears to be a wet strength tissue paper shortage. I had put a replacement suggestion and link in the description below. I hope that helps.
Is there a substitute for airbrush medium?
Hi Barbara - I haven't tested this yet, but I would imagine that you could water down gloss medium, maybe even matte medium to get some of the qualities of the airbrush medium. If you give it a go, let me know how it turns out for you. 🥰
Lovely results Jackie, now... How can I in the UK get hold of that coated deli paper? I've never see such huge sheets.
Hi Fran - great question! I'm not exactly sure, but I would start looking at restaurant supply stores. Look for "grease-proof paper" or "plastic-coated paper." I just did a quick search on amazon.uk and found some options, but I'm not sure how large they are. I hope this helps 🥰
May I ask what is the size of your freezer paper it looks very big.
Yes, the roll I have is huge (and very heavy). The paper has a width of 48" or 122cm. There are much smaller rolls available that will work just as well.
@@PaintedPaperStudio Jackie thank you so much for your reply.
