    Keep in mind that I do not work for Bose, and these are just my personal opinions.
    I think I have put together an incredible Bluetooth Micro System! It's a great first system for anyone; able to fit in the smallest cars, light weight, powerful full range sound that can be taken almost anywhere. I play Roland electronic drums through this system so I was looking for a subwoofer that could handle the deep bass of a kick drum. This system effectively fills my home (a large space with a cathedral ceiling) with music. Don't mention this to my "audiophile" friends out there but this system will outperform many pricey HI-fi systems with the traditional receiver, two speakers, subwoofer, all tied together with a spaghetti mess of cables. This system would probably have a high wife acceptance factor. Would make a great Karaoke system or a system for backyard pool parties 50-75 people, maybe even 100. Can always add a second Sub2! This system is also great for playing outdoors; plug in a guitar and microphone and create your own outdoors mini Woodstock. I have other suggestions for less expensive portable systems, or I can share the ultimate portable system I have created. Feel free to ask questions about hookup!
    Cable connection:
    All you need is one cable. From the line out of the S1Pro into a Channel input of sub. Make sure the cable is TRS 1/4" to TRS 1/4" or 1/4" TRS to XLR male. I like the XLR cable better because it has a more secure connection. If you plan on putting the sub between the two speakers, get a 10-15 foot cable.

    Some more critical Specs: The frequency response of the Bose S1Pro goes down to 62Hz on the low end. Adding this subwoofer, the frequency response now extends down to 37 Hz. These missing low end frequencies make a huge difference! Adding a sub creates a full range system.

    Viewer comment: In response to some folks posting that the Bose S1 Pro wasn't loud enough, especially in the vocals department. Since loud and soft are relative terms I decided to measure actual decibel levels. The app I used is called Decibel X. It's a must app for all musicians. In this video, my vocal (Shure SM 58) volume is set at 3/4 with 1/4 reverb, which I changed to 1/2 after viewing this video and my instrument volume is at 1/2. What I discovered was this battery operated, 15 lb. speaker is not as loud as my my 39 lb. JBL EON615 which puts out 127 db max. SPL or my 41 lb. JBL EON One line array which puts out 118 db max. SPL. NO, this unit puts out only 103 db peak (did I mention it only weighs 15 lbs.) What does it all mean you ask? SPL stands for Sound Pressure Level and it's the primary objective unit of measure for output (NOT Watts). Continued exposure to SPL above 90 dB can cause permanent hearing damage. Remember that dB levels drop the further away from the source... the goal is to have a level of 85 dB max where the listener is, thus the reason these units have a rating of over that, which gives you some head room. I also discovered that this unit is ideal for small rooms with 40-50 people or busking. It's size and weight make this unit very, very convenient especially for solo or duo musicians/singers.

    Good work! I really appreciate your videos for BOSE speakers and I also appreciate your opinions. I have a question: I am currently deciding between L1 model II + B2, or L1 16 Pro or 2x S1 Pro + 2x SUB1 (or 1xSUB2) Can you compare these variants? What would you recommend for these needs: universal use for live music for weddings and celebrations for up to 100 people (electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards, electric drums, 3x vocals) + recorded music.

      @WWeiss-nv5vz  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the compliment! What have you been using in the past? L1 M2 is great but B2 bass is poor. I have never heard the Pro16. 2x Sa1Pros/Sub1 - No! Doesn't have the headroom for that size crowd and is not made for that many instruments playing through it at once. That S1 Pro system would cost $2,900. For $300 more the Pro32/Sub2 is the way to go. I'm not sure even the Pro32 can handle that many instruments at once?? Might want to call Bose for advice or post this question on the Bose facebook forum.

    Good video. By hooking this setup the way you did, you are favoring portability and BT streaming, but you are also sacrificing a great feature that might result in better sound performance. And that is running the music first into the sub and then out to the S1Pros in filtered or crossover mode, so that they only have to handle the higher frequencies. This way, the S1 Pros are not burdened by a lower end that they’d struggle with, leaving it to the more than capable sub instead. I would believe that you can get much more headroom this way. True, you’d have to wire everything up, but then again, I believe the bluetooth module in these speakers is not the best sounding. Wired connections would also help make them shine. By the way, the Sub1 and Sub2 have a setting specifically designed to be matched with the S1 Pros.

To connect these with a sub go from the mixer Left and right into the sub inputs then the side you have the left running to connect that one to the left s1pro a d do the same thing for the right s1pro. And on the sub there is a L1 button hold it down till the light turns green then adjust your gain controls on the speakers. Since making this video I substituted the Sub2 for the Sub1 subwoofer. The Sub1 doesn't have the low end extension of the Sub2 or play as loud but it is an excellent performer. For those wanting this set up for a home situation the smaller size of the Sub1 might fit better.

      @WWeiss-nv5vz  Před 3 lety +2

      I have thought about that combination for $2,400. You would lose the wireless battery advantage of the S1s. There would be very good bass with two Pro8s but I think it wouldn't equal the single Sub2. The fact that the Sub2 goes down to 37Hz vs 45Hz is a big difference, plus the Sub2 would go louder at the lowest HZ because of its 1,000 watts vs. 480 watts for 2 times Pro8. The Sub2 is a house shaker! Of course the highs would be beautiful with a pair of Pro8s.

    Common question: Would you recommend to use the Bose Sub2 with 2 S1pro's or the Sub1?
    Yes and No
    Yes if you don't mind the very large difference in size, weight, and money. If you are a musician who plays bass or drums through the Sub2 the extra lows 37Hz of the Sub2 is very noticeable. Also if you are playing back heavy bass EDM/Hip hop type tracks. Have you seen this video? czcams.com/video/gldnIZV7hjA/video.html
    One plus I have found, if you want to run either on external power, the Sub2 doesn't require more power. I run either easily on a 600 watt Ecoflow Pro.
    On the other hand even with my Pro32 I never play the Sub2 over 11:00 because anything higher starts to overpower and muddy up the column. I do like to have that extra power in reserve for future larger gigs - especially outside!

    I've been wondering about 1x Soundboks Gen 3 with a Diamondboxx Sub8.2 for true battery-only power. Do you have any thoughts on that? Granted, it wouldn't be stereo, but I'd rather not go above the $2,500 budget you mentioned with your micro system. Unfortunately, w/1x Soundboks Gen 3 ($1,000) and 1x Diamondboxx Sub8.2 ($1,000), I'd still be looking at $2,000 before taxes. Imagine that portability though. It would basically be the Soundboks backpack, holding the Diamondboxx Sub8.2 in one hand, and another small bag for microphones, extra battery for the SBG3, power adapter for the DBS8.2 (if the battery dies during that day) and a large tablet for karaoke. Sounds pretty appealing, considering the sound that would come out of both of those products.

      Really depends on your application, indoors or outside, crowd size. Do you really need the 126dB max volume of the Soundbox's? What type of music do you play? EDM/Electronic music would need even more bass. Karaoke really doesn't need a subwoofer, most invest in a better main speaker. That setup Soundbox's/Diamondboxx would be great! A few suggestions: For Karaoke the JBL EON One MK2 would have a better Hi-fi sound especially for vocals. JBL has a 120 degree throw which would fill a room much better. At $1,200 you will save some money, and much easier to carry. It will not be as loud, bass will be close to the Diamondbox, not sure. Another option: Mackie Thump Go $450, Behringer B1200 sub $350, Grant Maya portable power station on Amazon to run sub $158. Soundbox's will be louder but Behringer sub is 12"/500 watts will outperform the Diamondboxx. Heads up- Diamondbox doesn't have a user replaceable battery. Figure 4 years and you will need a new battery! Another system: QSC CP8, Behringer sub, EcoFlow Pro battery $580 You would need the more powerful battery because the CP8 is A/C only. CP8 doesn't have reverb but will sound much better than Soundboks and just as loud. Last - Bose Pro8 $1,300 run on the EcoFlow battery, 180 degree throw, best in PA world, great bass, excellent vocals. EV 30m $1,500 also incredible.

      Depends on size of audience, type of music played. Pro 16 will be much, much louder! S1 Pro is only good up to 50 people. Pro 16 100 people. Pro 16 will throw sound at a much greater distance with full 180 degree sound. S1 pro is 120 degrees. Pro 16 will sound much better with better mids and high end. Sub2 is twice the bass of the Pro 16. S1 Pro really can't keep up with the Sub2. S1 Pro is great for busking/small events with battery power. I would get the Pro 16 and latter if you need more bass add the Sub2. Better yet, save up for the Pro32/Sub2 and you will never have to question if you made the right decision :)

      Glad you liked the video. The F1 Sub is not a good match for the S1Pros. Both the Sub1 and Sub2 have a high frequency setting that matches up with S1Pros for maximum volume and clarity. Plus in the future if you go for the Pro32 you will have the matching sub. Sub1 is the perfect match for the S1Pros. I never go over 1:00 on the gain so plenty of headroom. I would only go for the Sub2 if you don't mind the huge size/ weight/extra cost. Playing the Sub2 with S1Pros I have to turn it down to 10:00 to blend properly. The other reasons to go with the Sub2 is you plan on using it in a band situation where a bass player might play through it or drums. I play drums and the 37Hz of the Sub2 vs 40Hz of the Sub1 makes a big difference with the kick drum. Also if you are DJing with rap/hip hop or synth music that extra low end is worth the extra $$$. Using a mixer with a pair of S1Pros also makes a huge difference in headroom.

    Hey W. Weiss! I saw some of your videos and they are excellent! I was wondering if you could give me some advice on my following thoughts. I'm planning to create a boiler room setting. In case you are not familiar with that, it means that the DJ is in the middle of the room and it creates a more intimate setting. Where I'm living the Pro8 is half the price of the Pro16, so I figured, why don't I buy 4x Pro8's to put in each corner and create a more immersive surround sound experience and then (if needed) I place a Sub2 under the DJ table (since the music I play is mostly Deep House, Tech House and Techno and probably need the extra bass). What do you think about this setup, do you think it will create enough bass for the whole area (considering that it will be smaller settings like backyards). Or do you think this will create too much bass in comparison what those 4x Pro8's can produce in sense of treble? I'm curious about your thoughts. Many thanks in advance! 😊🙏🏼

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz
      @WWeiss-nv5vz  Před rokem

      4 Pro 8's is not a set up I would use. You might have issues with cancellations unless each speaker is at least 15 feet apart. Bose is famous for their 180 degree immersive sound, 4 speakers might actually ruin the affect. You didn't mention how many people you will be playing to? Pro8's bass will NOT be sufficient for that type of music, especially outside! Pro8 only goes down to 45Hz. Real subwoofer performance starts/kicks at 40Hz and below. Multiple Pro8's bass will be a little louder if at all, but not lower! I suggest for a similar price get a single Pro32/Sub2. Put in the middle of a medium size room it will fill every inch! Pro32 has a longer throw, less stage volume, and higher output and clarity at high volume than multiple Pro8's. If anything you might need a second Sub2 or a 18 inch sub! Sub2 goes down to 37Hz, which really punches! If you are doing this to save money, I think you are making a mistake.

      By accident, I was playing the Pro32 at high volume and I bent down and my ear was only a couple of inches from the column. I was shocked, it wasn't that loud! It's the Bose Magic! 32 small drivers pointing in different directions doesn't project sound too loud in any one direction. People report the volume on stage or in the front row, is the same as people in the back of the room. Pro 8 will definitely not match this performance. Pro 16 will be better but 16 drivers doesn't have the same affect as 32, meaning it might be too loud for the people right on top of the speaker. Pro8 will be even louder for people up front or right next to it.
      I never heard dual pro16's but the bass of the Pro 16 only equals the Sub1 and doesn't go down to 37Hz or have the output of the Sub2. If you do need two Sub2's make sure to stack them or couple them side by side to get an extra 6db boost.

What I love about this S1Pro system is the feather weight 15 pound speakers and the fact that with two speakers you get true stereo sound. Believe it or not even a $3,098 mono speaker with 180 degree dispersion can still be localized as one sound source. In the home audiophile world the goal is to make the speakers disappear and get the illusion the sound is coming from everywhere. The Sub2 is a monster! But I don't feel it is out of balance with the S1Pro pair. Again I backed off the gain on the Sub2 to only 10:30 and they blended beautifully. You are right, at only12:00 the lows were overpowering. Then again I like my bass to punch, I don't think the Sub1 gives you that feeling from what I have read, and the 37HZ low end extension of the Sub2 can't be matched by the Sub1. Unfortunately the 52 pound weight of the Sub2 will discourage me from taking it to quick gigs. Looks like a Sub1 is in my future to keep this system as portable as possible.

      Good question? Specs say Sub2 128dB max, F1 129dB. Very close but they have a different sound for sure. I guess you have to hear them yourself to decide which sound you prefer. I have never heard them side by side, but I do love my Sub2! RCF 705 is also a 15" sub you should consider. QSC KS112 the same. All great choices. EV50, Bose Pro16, JBL PRX One, RCF J8 many different opinions which is the best??

      @@WWeiss-nv5vz sooooo tough to decide!!!! Can’t remember if I mentioned this yet, but curiosity was killing me so I purchased two PRX ones and set them up in a 15 x 15 room in my house with high ceiling. They sound absolutely incredible, but compared to what? I can’t go out buying super expensive systems right and left, so I am tempted to return these and try out a sub2 with a couple of really quality loudspeakers. I am super impressed with the way these column speakers disbursed the sound. And at reasonable volume, they really do sound way more high-fi than most of the loud speakers I have ever listened to. But once I try to push them, I don’t know. I might get better sound at louder volume using a different system. If I had an unlimited income, I would love to try out keeping both of these prxz ones at about quarter stage on either side, with a sub two in the middle. And then of course a couple of really good loudspeakers stage right and left. Keeping all speakers at lower volumes and mixing them well would produce an amazingly full sound I think. But I’d have to be rich to do that. And I am not rich.

To make things even more confusing 1 Pro8 with 1 Sub1? I have never heard that combination. If you can give me some more information I might be able to give a better suggestion. I think BOSE intended for the source into the Sub first then cable from sub into S1 pro. You can then then activate auto crossover function, this dramatically improves bass clarity and sound quality as there is no muddy duplication in the 100 to 200hz range. Please see czcams.com/video/kQ4Pon0DLcs/video.html at 2:00min
    But does anybody know how to get back bluetooth in this config? Maybe BOSE can update firmware to use S1 bluetooth as input down to sub, and then cable back up to S1 using auto cross over....please let me know

    If you want to save money, instead of getting a second S1Pro you can get a Mackie Thump Go which is actually louder with a crisper high end than the S1Pro. Another important advantage of the Bose S1 Pro: It has a dispersion of 120 degrees. A typical point and shoot 12 inch speaker covers only 75 degrees. My best speaker the QSC K8.2 has only 105 degrees. What this means is that the Bose will cover a larger audience space, especially with one speaker.

      Yes, in theory, but reality there is compression, both heat and frequency dependent, that will effect actual output. Ratings by MFG are mostly theoretical and used for advertising.
