  • Check out our puppy's first time canoe camping in Algonquin Park. We paddle into Algonquin with our Alaskan Malamute puppy Lucy for the first time and spend the night camping together. Prior to camping overnight in Algonquin we spend the day at a backcountry campsite introducing our young puppy to camping and sleeping in a tent. This was an amazing experience and I look forward to many more adventures with Lucy.

    Props for trying with that bread! They have a mind of their own and are free spirits. If they like water they will swim till they can’t. Good luck. Good trip too!

      Hahaha ya, our breeder told us "prepare to have a perpetual 2 year old". We've been very consistent with her training and it's paying off. She's a very well behaved puppy,. Although, very sassy and doesn't like to be told NO but will still begrudgingly listen. So far she has not wanted to swim and prefers only to get her paws and legs wet, which we are pretty happy about. Kind of hoping she never decides to like swimming. Thanks for watching!

    So cute! I regret being such a strict disciplinarian with my pups after they became my most loyal companions, more so than humanly possible. They’re gone now but they would’ve given their lives for me. I’m sure yours will be as loyal, so keep that in mind when she chews up your furniture.😄I can’t wait to see her grow into her majesty!

      Hey, it's been a while! Ya pups require a lot consistency and direction. She tugs at the heart strings, couldn't imagine life without her now and we are definitely becoming a 'pack'. We've been super fortunate that she doesn't get into any trouble, she just gets very sassy when you tell her no 😅 A majestic beat she will be! Thank you!!

    Glad to have you guy's back! What a great pup, love the pointed ears. Looks like you're training is paying off. I bring one of those winter boots to stop salt in the paw but have it on hand just in case my dog cuts or burns her paw.

      Hey Jay! Glad to be back. I have lots to catch up on. Lucy has been an awesome adventure buddy so far and overall a calm and loving puppy. She's got a lot of sass and a mind of her own sometimes but we expected that with her breed, and are so happy we have her! We have definitely considered a type of boot, could really come in handy in several situations. Thanks for the tip!

    Gosh Alec and Paige, somehow my 'Alec on Adventures' notifications got turned off. Lisa and I just finished dinner and settled in to watch some TV and I said, 'it has been quiet on the Alec and Paige CZcams front'. Searched and saw we are behind three videos!
    Just watched this one with Lucy, what a great companion for your tripping adventures! Plus we feel we know her since we met in 'person'!
    This will add a great dimension to your future trips.
    Keep adventuring!

    That looks like fun! Could I suggest that you consider adding a 'quick clot' powder to your doggie first aid kit? Broken claws and wounds can bleed a lot and distress the animals, and the powder helps stop the bleeding quickly. Anyway, cheers from Toronto. Enjoy camping if you manage to do any winter camping. I'm hoping to make it up Algonquin this winter.

      Hey Simon, Lucy has definitely added some fun to all of our trips. That is a great suggestion, thank you for the advice. We will definitely be doing as much winter camping as possible. I hope you get the chance to enjoy Algonquin this winter as well. Take care!

    Lucy looks like my puppy's twin! My 4 month Akiani is a Nunavut husky. She's my second tripping dog, she will be joining Zora and I soon. You two are doing a great job, I can tell by her temperament. I would recommend a tick removal tool for the critter and yourselves, I wouldn't use tweezers again because they bruise, but one of the plastic levers you put around the tick and rotate, they sometimes give them away at the vet or you can buy them. In Lyme country I get the dogs vaccinated and treat them seasonally with Nexgard Spectra, which keeps the ticks off them 99% of the time. It also covers worms that they can get from mosquitoes and rodent meat (trust me it happens fast). Also some kind of dog safe eye drops or plain saline rinse, it's a common need for young dogs that get into everything. You can carry an Epi Pen Jr. in case of severe respiratory distress caused by anaphylaxis or ingestion of toxins such as poisonous plants, but it's a last resort and you hope to never use it because it's quite dangerous for her heart. Benadryl is much safer if she just swells up. I'd be happy to answer any questions about dogpacking!

      @AleconAdventures  Před rokem +1

      Hey, yes your puppy is very cute! Thanks so much for all your advice. Those are some really handy tips. We will have to get a tick remover and Epi Pen for emergencies (hopefully will never need it). Luckily ticks aren't really around where we are yet, but we still had her on Nexgard last summer. We have salt in her First Aid Kit with the water ratio written down to make a saline solution. As well as a silicone syringe to administer the solution. We have lots of Benadryl in there too! We really appreciate you taking the time to share your tips with us and thanks for watching!
