Being on a boat in a spectacular place on a beautiful day is splendid. But sailing isn’t the fastest, easiest, or most comfortable way to travel or live.
So why do we revel in discomfort? This is a question I ask myself after every sleepless night or rough voyage across a sporting sea (we sailors say sporting so it doesn't sound like we're complaining). Because being a liveaboard, is a very mixed bag. It’s completely impractical and yet we think it’s the greatest way to exist on the planet. We love it and this is a theory on why.
    ---------
WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.
We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.
Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

Don't know how you do it, but even a sail to a new anchorage somehow has purpose and meaning. Your sailing combined with the appropriate accompanying music (great choice this week) always make me forget the problems in the world...and for some unknown reason puts me in a better mood for the week ahead. Wishing you a wonderful week too!

"We didn't buy a sailboat so that we can motor". And that ladies and gentlemen, is why this is my favorite Sailing channel. You know what and who I'm talking about.

  • @SupremeLeaderKimJong-un
    @SupremeLeaderKimJong-un Před 2 lety +11

Exactly, you don't buy a sailboat for the motor, you buy it because you want to SAIL. Yes sailing can be troublesome at times, and that's why teamwork makes the dream work. Once you cooperate with Mother Nature, you learn to respect it, plus be more aware about time. Time is valuable and precious.

Forrest Gump had the saying "stupid is as stupid does" but I don't think you're stupid.
17 to 20 knots is the sort of weather sailors dream of so what's stupid about that?
It'd be stupid to not go sailing for as long as possible and cramming a four hour sail into an 8 hour day is an accomplishment.
    Well done.

Sailing is being at anchor in a beautiful harbor, sailing in perfect seas with perfect wind, sailing is exciting when the wind and sea challenge you a bit. Sailing is also constant upkeep and repairs, standing watch in the middle of a cold night in choppy seas with ⚡️ and 🌧 , trying to sleep when you’re too cold or too hot, or the boat is tossing you around, it’s worrying if you’re going to make it to port because of some mechanical problem(s). Sailing is life. It has its good times and not so good times. Being on a boat gives you more of the good and not so good than sitting at home in front of your tv and wishing you were those people with the catamaran sailing around the world.

The Coromandel is a beautiful area. I am a 65 year old retired guy and live by myself in my caravan. For the last couple of weeks I have been doing a very slow meander on the Coromandel Peninsula. Yesterday (10 April) I travelled from Whitianga, where I had been parked up for a week, to Coromandel village. Planning on staying here until Easter Monday, when I will travel up to Auckland to look after my 6 year old granddaughter for the school holidays while my daughter and son-in-law work.

Coromandel town on the west coast is very cute and is the gateway to beautiful beaches on the East Coast. Coromandel is a bit of an artistic centre and Easter has a great exhibition at the old school. There is a big hill to go over to the East coast but on the other side is Whnangapoua and at its end is the world famous New Chums beach. A good shop with yummy coffee and cake at Whangapoua. In Coromandel you should go to Driving Creek Railway, a little train goes through the regenerating bush, designed by a potter, that takes you to the Eye Full tower and wonderful views back to Aucklamd. The beaches on the East coast are beautiful, especially Whangapoua. Enjoy

Suggestion buy an air powered rife. (I recommend a Beeman)
Use it to teach seagulls that your boat is not healthy place to poop. After warming the tail feathers up in a parking spot the others will get the hint. Believe me they do talk to each other. And an air gun doesn’t disturb your neighbors unless they see you training the birds. A scope is always nice to.

Here's to hoping your water maker gets the love it needs. So thankful you're getting enough rain to supplement for now. Sunday morning with the Wynns on Curiosity. Such a treat! Stay safe out there!

I wish you could livestream a few days - just mount on a mast and let us all enjoy your beautiful surroundings! Vicariously, we get to enjoy these beautiful places through your videos. More than that, your videos are so well composed - no jiggly cameras, or out of focus footage...your efforts in producing excellent content really shows! Your videos are beautiful even covering some of life's more mundane aspects. Thanks!

You guys definitely has the right balance in attitude. You tackle challenges which are rewarding and not impossible. I see the youth of today demoralised by adults with negative attitudes (which sadly includes their parents sometimes) and I wish I had the formula to open their eyes. Jordon Peterson tells the youth of today to pick a hard task and lift that burden. When you succeed you will like a master of the universe. The alternative to always feel helpless and defeated, down trodden and depressed. And the staggering thing about attitude is that it takes about a microsecond to change it from negative to positive, the person only has too will it to be so. Fair winds to you as they say.

about your internet problem in that cove -- have you thought about balloon antenna-- they are really a small helium balloon with a ant. attached with about 200 ft of cable or more light weight wire it boosts your wifi hundred x -- can't think of why it wouldn't boost your uplink connections also with the right ant. attached --- they use them in nordic countries and east coast of Canada where fiords are present -- they where invented during war 2 for spies to send up a ant to transmitt then take down in a hurry so they wouldn't be detected during the night with low watt transmitters -- maybe you should look in to these -- just an idea -- sure there is a reason -- with how smart you guys are that you haven't thought of that -- love this video as always it shows real boat life -- i like that - you guys are great best sailors videos on the net

I may have to take you up on your offer on the acuva. I'm getting ready to start my part time venture in my motorhome. I'm betting my wife won't like the water from our tank, but I guess we'll see in a few months. Ya know not every day of any life is rainbows and unicorns sometimes it's just a regular day with some trials and tribulations. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
