    WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.
    We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
    Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
    We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.
    Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

    Great video guys 🙌🏼, I like that family and I don’t think they’ll do much motoring on their travels.
    Would love to hear the peoples onboard experience as the weather gets up. Comfort onboard as it gets to 25+ knots and how that “feels” onboard on a 3t boat vs something that is 20t like a standard production catamaran.
    Where are they thinking of taking it and where would they not?

Multihull are meant to sit on top of the water.The heaveier they are the more unsafe the are in my opinion. The builder is my multihull guru.John, you are the man!

    What a fantastic cat!! And I like that pretty much everything was manual...the dagger boards, rudder extensions, anchor, etc. The electric winches are great, but it's just one more thing to break. And even though this cat is minimalist, with very little on deck to create drag/windage and that mainsail boom as low as possible, it still seems really comfortable below decks. Much more so than I would've thought. You're definitely going to be in the weather and wet on that helm, though, no matter what. Really enjoyed the ride. Thanks for taking us along!!

    Gotta love Kiwis. I don't have too much experience on bigger boats, but certainly in dinghy-land the boats you'd look at and think "this looks approachable" tend to sail like dog-shit and are a handful in a blow, while the ones that look racy often have much more benign handling and a lot more boat speed to boot. Look how that machine just purrs along doing wind-speed even with the rig de-powered... no big loads on the helm, no wasted energy pitching, no bad behavior-- just cuts right through the water with a gentle hum from the boards.
    This boat is pretty cool and looks to be in incredible condition. Those rudders are super sexy: love a cassette rudder but they often don't seem to work well at large scales with the usual pintle-based arrangement... the way they've done a cassette integral to a giant set of upper and lower bearings connected by pushrods and spherical bearings is just tasty. I bet the helm feel on that boat is superb.

    That was a fun outing to watch, as they all are! When younger, my brother and I used to race smaller sailboats, which hiking out and the speed was so much fun! Your video today brought back some wonderful memories.
    I will say, you two are an inspiration, and thank-you for sharing! Your insights are luring us to get back out. As my wife's and my children were growing up, we visited the 48 contiguous states and camped in a tent, conversion van or a popup camper. It offset the work of the year, which my wife was a teacher and I worked with communities to figure out how to become more sustainable through land use, mitigation and all that stuff. I retired recently and traveled off the grid, but I have returned to work with smaller places to help after disasters. Well, your insights and adventures have me figuring out how to get out full time -- I figure after 40 years of giving to others it's probably okay for us to chase the sunsets for a bit (by the way, your charities that you highlight, and help are amazing and that provides a wonderful way to keep helping all species). Sorry for the long dialog, but a sincere thank-you for being an inspiration.

    I've been watching GwtWs for years now, ever since they were touring NA in an RV. I have to say, the charm of this channel (apart from Nikki and Jason themselves) are the relationships they make, and they experiences they share with us. It's one thing for them to document their travels with us - those channels are a dime a dozen. It's another thing completely to make friends with anybody and everybody, and then show us life from these other perspectives. Captain Tom, and all the other people in Fiji, all the people in the Caribbean, and in between, THAT is what makes this channel special. It's the relationships and showing other peoples' lives which is what I treasure most about this entire adventure.

    • @AORD72
      @AORD72 Před 2 lety +2

      The big advantage is light wind sailing, in 5 knots of breeze you don't have to motor. Personally I can't stand motoring, the noise, vibrations, smell, cost and the boat thumps through the water instead of gliding through it. If you want to relax in strong winds just reef hard down.

    • @AORD72
      @AORD72 Před 2 lety +2

      @@timinwsac looks like a pretty low center of force (the mast looks short) and with 8.8 beam looks like it would be hard to capsize. Roughly 1 tonne at 4 meters is a lot of torque holding the boat upright. They did say "Paul has some sailing experience".

    Awesome to meet such inspired followers of your great sailing adventure ....be interesting to know the relative stability/comfort factor of the fast-cat vs your cruiser -on long passages ... one HUGE positive is with 1/2 the passage time the chances of getting caught with gnarly change in weather is much reduced!

    What an exciting boat to get to ride on! I would do that in a heartbeat. So glad I watched right to the end. The cream question did come up in my mind. The external toilet was interesting as well. Thanks for sharing. All the best to Slime and crew!

    We've been following you guys since your RV days. You inspired us to buy our RV and see America (and Canada). We've traveled from Temple, TX to Alaska and lots of other amazing places. We'll never sail around the world, but we enjoy watching your adventures while on the road in our Airstream.

    Fun video. I recall the first time I saw a Chip Butty (sandwich) on a menu at SOU Southampton Airport in 1986. I had no idea what it was and was astonished to learn about its ingredients.
