I guess the digital noise taboo maybe has to do with wether you're able to do it in a live setting? I'd say that people also associate it with zero effort myspace noise from the 00s.. I myself remember trying to distort mp3 files in windows movie maker. I think it's probably way fucking harder to make genuinely interesting and good digital noise than it is to jerk off with a metalzone pedal, but it's also way more immediately available as an option than purchasing said metalzone. That gives birth to a lot of what in the metal community would be classed as "poserdom", and a lot of "noise" out there that straight up isn't good or anything anyone would wanna listen to.
Also the whole merzbow going digital thing, probably doesn't help.
