    did you wiegh your trailers loaded and empty ? just wondering.

    • @shooshinejonnie
      @shooshinejonnie  Před 5 lety +16

      No I didn't. I have #7000 of capacity on the axles and I believe the trailer itself weighs in at around #3000. That leaves me with approximately #4000 of capacity. My plywood for the cabinets weighed in around #1400 not including any waste/cutoffs. That leaves me with #2600 of tool capacity. My current guesstimate is I'm running #5500-6000. 🤷‍♂️
      I do need to go weigh it.

      My 8x8x15 trailer with bare essentials (full power tool gang box) and front workbench weighs in at 3,750 and is plated for 7,500. If i fully load up, probably closer to 7,500, not to mention risking over $40k in toys

    I like this tool trailer video. I work in the Southern California area just north of LA and have been struggling with tool storage for years. Been using a Transit van this last few years but still run into issues with being overcrowded in the van with tools and supplies all over the floor. I also own a 16 foot Isuzu box truck but find that impractical for most jobs. I'm tired of walking on everything I own in my $48K van trying to find where I put something from the last job. I'm also very tired of having to always empty out the van at the end of the day just to set up for the next morning's job. I think I'll be looking to buy a long trailer and converting it to meet my needs. My next step is to find a 18 to 20 foot box trailer with that drop down tail gate door. Thanks for the inspiration.... This will save me a ton of time in just being able to find what I need without having to search through my stuff all over my shop and yard.

    • @shooshinejonnie
      @shooshinejonnie  Před 5 lety

      My pleasure on the inspiration. I'm glad you found some value.
      I completely understand your frustration Eric. After working out of the back of a pickup truck and a smaller trailer I knew there had to be something better. 18 ft is maybe a few few longer than I would actually need, but I've never run into a place where I couldn't get into the job. I would also be hesitant to give up that extra room. If you're looking for used you kind of have to go with what you find. If you're going to go new I would definitely consider an 8-ft wide and also add a minimum of six inches to the roof height. If you can find one already built like that that would be fantastic. I'm getting ready to publish a video of my father's trailer. His is 6" taller than mine but everything else is exactly the same. Not sure if the difference will convey through video. Thanks for commenting and watching.

    • @erictavitian8378

      John, I will definitely look into an 8 foot wide trailer that I can hook up on to my fairly new 1 ton Dodge 3500 Ram. That truck has been sitting quiet in my driveway since I had to purchase it to haul up 4 tons of materials to a job on the Utah/Idaho border last summer. I'll begin searching when I get on the internet later today. There's a ton of stuff I really like that you incorporated into your jobsite trailer. You are now on my "Always to be Watched " list. Thanks again from an old veteran carpenter.

    Lots of great idea in here for mobile tool storage. Those PVC vacuum hose and electrical cord standoffs are brilliant. I suspect if you build trailer number 5, you'll use the ultralight plywood that Ron Paulk used for his latest S.M.A.R.T. trailer build.

      @shooshinejonnie  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for your kind words. I would definitely look into the ultralight plywood if there's any available. From what I understand the stuff that Ron used is no longer available. But I may be wrong.

      Thanks Brad for your kind words. If only others could see their future. I've actually thought about building a trailer as a demo and letting people use it for a week or two to let them see it in action.
      For those that didn't have time to build it yourself, you do what you do best and I'll build it for you.

    Ok so you designed that trailer beautifully! I know that on job sites it can be difficult if you need to use the bathroom if there’s none around. I think you need to build a porta potti in the back corner with a thin sliding door. It’s just my thought. 🤔. Your organization is really awesome!

      Thank you Deborah for your kind words. I do have a bucket and also some water additive for sanitation purposes. I've never had to use it but I've also worked mostly in more rural areas. Having just moved to a more suburban area I may have use for it soon. 😟

    Hi, I’ve watched many videos on this subject but your video is by far the most comprehensive that I’ve seen.
    What super , practical ideas you have - many of which I’ve tried myself but not to the perfection that you have achieved.
    One question i have is the weight of your trailer - must be quite high - also on security one lock is never quite enough to secure any means of trailor or vehicle.
    Ive lost thousands of ( £ ) even when I’ve had fitted high security interior dead locks to each door + three types of alarm systems to one of my work vans - in less than 10 minutes both rear doors had been removed & all tools & test equipment removed, from a very busy high street parking spot in central London.
    I am building a v/h/voltage lock activated trigger device that only gives a surprise “shock” when door handles are touched and system is triggered on.
    So far this works very good on bench set up & i will install it soon to work van.
    I would be quite worried if i had a trailor as yours with so much equipment on board & left it parked up.
    Ed,

    I like the side ladder rack. I was going to put a roof rack on. Now I think I will get a side mount.

    • @shooshinejonnie
      @shooshinejonnie  Před 3 lety

      To me it makes sense. Less time tying down ladders. I can also reach it from the ground and don't have to figure out how to get up top. Now, I am limited to carrying 2 big ladders. I could double up if I had to or carry them inside. I have two ladders that live there and don't come off very much, but I have them when I need them.
