Speedzone from Cobra golf in the irons feature speed and some good looks whiles the same time offering crazy golf power for golfers who want to brag about how far they hit their golf irons on the golf course.

Mark, I know there is no such thing as standard lofts anymore but what sort of spin numbers should we amateurs expect from a standard, sic, set of irons assuming a reasonable strike of course. Would make a nice vid ok info for the masses.

My five iron has 27 degrees of loft and I hit it 160 to 170 depending on how good I'm swinging it. I went from playing the Wilson Staff di11 irons to the Wilson Staff fg tour f5 irons it really put my pride in check.

At age 70 I only hit my driver 215, so this new 5-iron will be the perfect driver replacement club for me. Heck, I won’t even need to buy those pesky tees anymore either. This game just gets better and better the longer I live!!!

I think he means the old school lofted 7 irons vs the new. For example, a really old weak loft 7 might go 150 yards, and a 35 degree 164, 31 degree 178, a 27 like the video 190. You could have 4 7 irons in your bag.

I played an old offset 1993 wilson cb. Probably a game improvement of its time, though John daly played them....
      Its a 36° 7-iron!
You could go from the longer 37.75" shaft to the modern taylormade 36.75" shaft and cover quite a spread with the lofts.

THANK YOU! It seems like all the other similar CZcams channels poopoo Cobra clubs- and you don’t. Golfers are brand snobs and for varying reasons; heck, I used to be a Ping snob. Then I tried (and bought) the Cobra F7 One Lengths- and I will never buy another brand or any clubs but One Lengths.
So I’d just like to say, “thank you for being fair to Cobra. They aren’t the biggest or most popular, but I think they put just as much R&D into their product as anyone- and from personal experience, their customer service is unmatched. And also thank you for being fair (and open-minded) to the one length concept, and by default, the golfers who have converted to it.”
    Keep up the great work!

Only 155 yards Mark for 5 iron. Driver speed 85 tom87 max mph. I need more distance. I'm thinking a strong 7 iron will be easier to hit than a 5 iron because of the shorter shaft length. 150 yards out, surely a strong 7 iron will easier than 5 iron for me!

Mark, with my older Mizuno MP-52 I carry 155. A couple of years ago I purchase TaylorMades M2 and carry the 7 an average of 165. I prefer the Mizuno MP 52. I control my overall distance more constantly with the MP-52’s. Comparatively, my TaylorMades M2 shafts are appox 1.5 inches longer. The TaylorMades M-2 gets substantially more roll ( not my preference). My personal preference is carry distance with minimal roll. Thanks Mark for the reviews.

TheGolfdaily he used to do demos at driving ranges around Toronto years ago. He’d scatter a bucket of balls around and hit them where they were lying with a 3 wood. He wouldn’t move the ball to a nice lie. I never saw one of his shows but I play golf with people who did. He shared the old Ben Hogan idea that a putt was only worth a half stroke or less. I don’t think he was a very good putter because of this. George Knudsen apparently had the same attitude about putting and that cancelled out his Hogan like ball striking. Every golfer of a certain age in Ontario has Moe Norman stories to share:)

Story of Moe Norman is worth making it into a Hollywood movie one day. A kind of golfing version of Rain Man or Forest Gump.
There was a time when I was searching for a new golf swing, I was studying Moe's way of striking balls. I had some success especially with driver but eventually realized that it is not style of swing that makes a consistent ball striking but it is more a matter of who you are.
Moe was a very special man with very special ability which was at the same time his disability.
To strike the balls like he does, you need a little robot in your head telling you what to do.

I noticed the Callaway Mavrik irons just added an ADDITIONAL gap wedge into the set to account for their ridiculously strong loft/club number designation, instead of bothering to "fix" the gapping issue that creates down the bottom of the set... so they offer 4-PW...AW...GW...SW _instead_ of 3-PW, GW, SW (same lofts). Ask Coach how he feels about that! 😉 Great stuff, guys.

So two questions I'd love to see with clubs like these. 1) Can you go for a high-spinning ball to get some of the spin back? 2) Can you vertically shape these as easy as non-high tech clubs? Meaning if these are strong lofted and heavily weighted to get the ball into the air, would you be able to get a punch shot low enough? Or would trying to get more height on it result in it being too high?

Who is the targeted market for these types of clubs? Are they for slower swing speed players? If so how do they perform for them? Do the clubs help them keep up with stronger players and hit correct clubs into greens?

So if I can’t hit my current 26 degree 5 Iron (which happens to be a Cobra) does that mean I’m going to struggle with the SZ 7 Iron?
When do you think they’ll start producing 10 and 11 irons ?🤪

    • @andrewbarker4576
      @andrewbarker4576 Před 4 lety +1

Larry, it’s the longer shafts that make longer irons harder to hit. The cobra sz irons have standard length shafts it’s the lofts which are stronger. You get the same ball flight with a club less, simples. Crossfield will never hit a 235 five iron on a real golf course. Only on his play station 😃🏌️‍♂️

Absolutely...about the back edge. Why would you care? When I line up to hit a ball, all I see is the ball. I see the leading edge for a second or so as I square up the face. Look left to see if I am aligned and gauge distance. After that, all I see is the ball. Not the top line, not the back of the club, not the offset...Only the ball and the resting blur of a club behind it. And if it performs, It does not matter what I am using. It seems silly that all of these club pro's care about a top line.

It is really a 3 iron though, both in length and loft, and my powerbat P790 4i with 21° loft goes really far too

Mark can I make a suggestion. When reviewing clubs could you advise your standard for that club, either an infographic or verbally. You are hitting that 7 iron initially and I'd love to know what your stock distance/peak height is to ref against as I imagine my 7 stats aren't the same cheers

  • @degorovi

Hi Mark, I'd like to see the one length review. I mean if you tested it yourself and everything is really the same, then it's fine if you just say so. I'm just wondering (like coach) if Cobra has sorted the problems with the "longer" irons (too low trajectory if your swing speed is too low).

I lobe that. The average golfer doesn’t care about offset! We don’t care about what we’re hitting. We just want to play the best golf we can! But we don’t want be limited by clubs! We want a iron we can hit a wood we can hit and a driver we can hit! Do we care who what or why! We just want to golf!

When will it end? 10 years time manufacturers bringing out “7 irons” with 20 degrees of loft. Surely people will have massive gapping problems with these type of clubs.

    • @umat321

I always admired the clubs that just put the loft instead of the supposed "iron number" on the club like those ben hogans etc. That way you get apples to apples.

It seems to me that all Cobra is doing is "shifting" the iron set for distance. Like having a traditional iron set loft of 2 - 9 irons. No need for a hybrid, driving iron, or 5 wood. Instead, maybe add an additional wedge

    Hi Mark
Your question was how far can you hit your 5 iron for me it’s 175 with srixon 785 but how many people have commented but not asked the question just shows how much golfers put on distance now and most dare not answer in case they feel inferior but the old adage golf is a game of scoring not distance

So question for you. So I like the idea of or length irons but not for a pitching wedge or a nine. So question is, you always talk about blending, well can I blend a normal Gap - 8 then a one length 7 - 5 iron? Or maybe 7-6 and a hybrid. Would any supplier let me?

  • @stevencarrier5060
    @stevencarrier5060 Před 4 lety

I’m interested in a combo set with one length. Being 5’8” I’d like 4-7 to be one length and then 8-gap to be normal game improvement irons.

i've been thinking for a while that the modern club set up is going to be irons 5-gap and straight to 3 wood and driver. There would be no gap between that 5 and any wood or hybrid and no one could even hit a modern 4 iron. By the way, How straight did you hit those??? I wouldn't of evan considered these irons before this review, now i feel like i need to try them asap!

If I buy an iron set in which the 5 iron is a 3 iron, the 7 iron is a 5 iron, and the 9 iron is a 7 iron, how the hell am I supposed to build the rest of my bag?
The 9 iron goes over 150 simply because it has the loft of a 7 iron. Yet I can only play shots under 125 yards with my current wedges:
    46ºW 120-125
    50ºW 110-115
    56ºW 95-100
    60ºW 75-80
That's a 25-30 yard gap between 120-125 and 150 which is arguably one of the most crucial scoring distances in golf. I simply cannot understand why would they make things difficult for people.

  • @hanleyagolf

The iron number also dictates the shaft length (although that too can change between iron sets - sometimes even between sets of the same manufacturer). What is the real impact of that? (say 0.5 to 1 inch difference?)
