  • @lowellhouser7731

    AR v AK.... this is dumbest argument ever. If you live in America you should have at least three fighting rifles - one 5.56 that takes AR15 mags, one 5.45 that takes ak74 mags, and one 7.62 that takes AK47 mags. Why? Because you tailor your rifle to the most reliable source of ammunition which is usually going to be the corpses of your enemy.
    Finland used this strategy very successfully against the Russians in two wars.
    If it's Washington DC/NATO coming for your guns, go with the 5.56. If it's UN peacekeepers you're going to probably want one of the other ones. And since a doublestack 9mm is the most common handgun configuration in the world, use one of those. A plate carrier with plates is also a really good idea. Buy them and train now while you still can.

    • @lowellhouser7731

I'd echo all that you said and simply add that the addtional crossovers of caliber and barrel length for each further level the playing field - like 5.45 AKs in shorty formats and/or ARs in other calibers, SPR lengths, etc., etc. All a question of personal preference and intended purpose

      It's 2019 and we only have centurys, US made garbage, custom/independant work pieces, and the occasional import sporter. It is stupid to get an AK anymore, and that is coming from a die hard AK fan. AR's are standard and mass produced in our own country, and that is the big reason that they are practically superior in terms of parts, ammo, and mags. AK can still be viable, but if a part breaks, you are either lucky that a local store has them, or you buy online. The overwelming majority of stores carry ARs and parts, and not carry AKs other than the occasional Century... which is usually a RAS47... and we all know Robski's opinion on that.

    I have a WASR10 Underfolder. Don't laugh. It's had a couple thousand rounds through it of all kinds - brass, steel, plated, whatever, nothing stops it. Works first time, every time. 2.5-3 MOA accurate at 100 yards - more than good enough for what it is and what I use it for. I replaced the top cover with UTG's railed cover, and installed a red dot. I also replaced the wooden forearm with Tapco's polymer railed version, added a vertical grip, and it's incredibly compact, maneuverable and handy - ideal for home, school and office. Total investment=just under $500. I also own a Saiga .223 carbine. Same reliability (as sunrise), 2 MOA accurate (with a cheap $50 1x-6x scope) even with dirt cheap Russian ammo, and because I'm an old codger, set in a few of my ways, I like the traditional stock - it's kind of like a Mini14 that's been working out and got buff. Total investment=$400. Both of these weapons will outlast my grandkids, and maybe even our right to actually own them. My next modern sporting rifle? My 5th AR15, of course. Go figure. My preference? Whatever's on sale.

      horselips The WASR has a good reputation now than the earlier models. I gave my early post ban wasr away. Regret it. It had canted sights, rough mag well machining, poor finish, but otherwise performs flawless. A gun company that makes Iraqi tabuks offered to improve it for me. Should have kept it. Oh well, bought an Atlantic Tula Kit build and it works great.

Not to mention the videos on the magazine fed SKS you made actually made me test the gun under pressure and after I defended it I had so many malfunctions and stovepipes, I actually took all mods off and bought the wooden originals for it.. Found the Czech small arms vz-58 sporter to fit my needs, weight is comparable to an AR platform at 6.7 lbs and I enjoy shooting cheap while practicing so 7.62 steel case or corrosive surplus if I have the time to clean the gun thoroughly right after works well for me. It's also a more "accurate" gun than the ak in general and completely different internally. Can highly recommend, these Czechs know what they're doing.

    Luckily I live in pre-hillary america and i have both. The ak is not inaccurate piece of sh*t and the AR in not a malfunction waiting to happen jam-o-matic 3000. If i had to chose 1 and only 1 it would be an AR . Not because it's lighter or because its slightly more accurate and not because its more available. I would choose it because when sh*t breaks as any machine or tool will do I can fix it with basic tools + armor wrench and be done with it. no having to sand file or press out parts with a 20 ton press. yes an ak will last longer without needing a fix but when it happens its 10x harder and takes longer to fix it

    • @GenScinmore
      @GenScinmore Před 9 lety

      that could very well be an ammo problem with overpressure. or a low quality ak. you didn't exactly answer the question directly; what specifically went wrong?

    • @Regular_Guy_Training_LLC
      @Regular_Guy_Training_LLC  Před 9 lety +1

      stuck casings, or badly extracted casings lead to this problem, yes it was because something got worn out on the gun, no it was an ammo issue, (its usually wolf that gets used in these guns but all of it was steel cased) and no it wasn't quality of gun. the last three times I saw it happen was to my Norinco MAK 90, an arsenal slr107cr, and a rifle dynamics 74. this rarely happens like I said, but when it happens its usually because something is worn out, or its a complete fluke... funky shit happens to guns when you run them hard.

  • @Dan-di9jd
    @Dan-di9jd Před 2 lety

    I think the problem isn't that someone is deciding between an AR or AK. They probably already own one of the platform and talk about how great it is and all that. I think people probably already set their minds on one of the platform and not so much because one is better than the other.

  • @Lapinmiez
    @Lapinmiez Před 8 lety

    You have very good and justified opinions but only one major question came to my head and id like to hear is that what malfunctions you have experienced with ak platforms.
    I served in finnish defence forces as a gunsmith and got familiar with the biggest breaking points of ak's which went from feeding issues that were caused by mag realese to gas piston which broke from the end of bolt carrier (i actually took a picture from that since i found it so hilarious).
    But all those issues had one same fact behind them that the firearm was up to 40 years old an had been constantly in use. BY CONSCRIPTS. And the reason i said that is because they did not get treated very well :D
    Most common reason to reject a rifle in checkup was that the end of the barrell was so scorched with a cleaning rod that bullet started tumbling immediately because rifling was ruined.
    Im now using russian saiga m3 in range with 0 issues to this date and feeling pretty confident that there will not be any in near future either

    Due to my job, I carry what I train with at work for personal carry. If I was issued a Hi-Point handgun, I would own one because of the countless rounds that I get to train with for duty carry ( I'm not a cop). I carry what I've trained with during my career, AR's and Glocks. If we went to AK's tomorrow, I'd get proficient with it and then own one for personal use. I believe in carrying what you train with. I find it pointless to go get an AK or a 1911 because of the little to no training that I've had and it wouldn't be cost effective whatsoever. I work with guys that buy X because of the cool factor. Some do train on other weapons outside of work for hobby and are proficient with them. That's just not me I guess. Keep up the videos young man. Good job.

I have found though my WASR 10 so far through 1100 rounds I've only had 4 malfunctions and 2 of them were 100% due to a gen 2 Pmag. All that said my PSA mid-length freedom series rifle I've got about 800 rounds through and only had 4 or 5 malfunctions in that rifle.
