I feel like that slogan was made by astroturfing. I mean think about it, we know astroturfing protests happen that's likely what the " open up the country "protests were ( at least at first). Now I think some people were doing it on there own accord but the protests were started by astroturfing. If someone got a message that could clearly be miscommunicated and the fact that it can be easily interpreted differently like "Defund the Police". That would be very smart by the rich 1% to keep their power because it would make people support trump a bit more, or at least keep the police from reforming. It also explains why some protesters are backtracking what it means if it was an artificial thing. Of course I don't have evidence for it but It is an interesting theory.
@@r0btr3on62 yeah most people might agree. I really don't think any sane person would listen to the protests and actually defund the police. You could take some money away from the police, use some of the money to track police shootings, taking gun out and pointing at someone(which you shouldn't do unless you are going to shoot someone, which police did back at Ferguson), body cams, have different police groups that wouldn't really be police and maybe even apart of different departments. For example people who would deal with homeless people and people who deal with addicts. They would be able to get housing and psychological help as well as any nesscserray things people need to survive. People who look for jobs for them. There really is so much police do that they know that they can't help with all of it. Training is needed of course but police don't need to use guns all the time. Defunding can also mean rebuild the police department from ground up. Yes police are needed. Is the message a bad message and really should not have been spread all over the protests. I would say no that would be dumb. That why I want to look into my theory that I put in my other comment.

I lived all my life in NYC and I’m planning to escape ... as soon as I posted it I got the email from our bosses for our Queens department “ dear staff, there are demonstrations planned in the are starting at 3 pm . As a safety precaution, please leave the office by 2 pm “

I heard a stat today that over 6 million guns have been sold in just the past 3 months. The second amendment won’t receive any more discussion - at least for a long time. I've read one of those officers was on his first official shift with the PD. Another, it was his 4th shift. The guy who did the deed was the senior officer of over 19 years they were looking up to. I say those cities should defund the police. The rest of America can hire the good cops for their own departments. I'd prefer that to the slow corruption of police departments. The irony is that during some protests, when the protestors felt that they were in danger, some would actually yell out "Call the police!"
There is no Irony in that. There is not a real call for zero police. The question being asked is "Are the police the only option for every situation?" What would be wrong with reducing police funding and setting up other groups that could be trained for and respond to many of the situations where the police are currently the only option. The added benefit of this is if the types of calls the police respond to are reduced we may be able to properly train them to respond to those situations and save lives.
No one should be afraid of the police in general or that they are in danger because of the color of their skin and that is not the case.
Right now is a bit of a knee jerk reaction but I assume that is due to both the callousness shown by the police force in the video for the life of another human and years and years and years of inaction as similar incidents have happened.
If your son, or father, or uncle, or even neighbor was murdered and the only punishment the murderer got was an 18-month vacation in the form of paid leave that your taxes are covering, can you, in all honesty, tell me you would not be in the streets demanding justice.
The native here should not be driven by the minority that is reacting with violence but the masses that have clearly stated enough is enough. Enough time has gone by with nothing being done. Enough blood has been spilled. WE NEED CHANGE AND WE NEED IT NOW. And the changes might be too far-reaching or go too far in certain areas but that is what decades of inaction gets everyone.

A little history is needed. I was in El Paso TX. in 1992 the border there under Clinton was a Sieve. 1.5 million people in El Paso and 4.5 million people in Juarez in Mexico. I asked about the wrought iron grills on the Spanish styled houses in El Paso as most of them were quite ornate. The local I was talking to said on Saturday night El Paso turns into a war zone and the locals bunker down behind those grills and basically fend off the Mexican gangs of robbers that cross the border to rob and loot. Just about every house in El Paso has some sort of firearm and the police were cleaning up after multiple defense shootings every weekend. It was so common place there you would never hear about it any where else.
So defund the police in your city but you had better have a good firearm for protection and some heavy grills on your windows and doors. Also you had better be proficient with that firearm and willing to end someones life to protect your own. Warning shots at criminals are only going to get you killed.
