I found this video to be excellent help and I followed everything she said to do ! She knows EXACTLY what she is doing and she is an expert ! Thank you so much for helping me do my brakes !!!
Great explanation. Great camera angle. Very good detail. Great that you left in when things did not go right first time; that is exactly what many diy mechanics come to realise when they do jobs on their cars. Great video.

Hi, really found this video useful. Agree that with brakes it is a good idea to do one side at a time, so you can use the other side for reference. Also I take a few photos on my phone showing where each spring fits.Great that you are willing to show that refitting the brake springs can be 'fiddly', reassuring that I am not alone in finding this job patience trying! Keep up the good work!
+J C Thanks for the feedback!
Thank you I just did my rear brakes the way you teach is beautiful and so are
Thanks for this. I fought the first one for 30 minutes before finding your video. Took 2 minutes to assemble after.
the old back-up pumping brakes style adjuster , bringing back memories of my 1964 Chevy Biscayne.

Nicely done and well explained
Good presentation!
The biggest hassle getting a brake drum off is due to the shoes wearing a lip on to the side nearest the back plate and the shoes having auto-adjusted out so the lip drags the shoes when you try to pull the drum off. Best, if accessible, to slacken the auto-adjuster to pull the shoes in away from the drum so it can pull off with a few taps of the hammer.
Test foot and handbrake with help of someone in the driver's seat, wheels of the deck, before starting the brakes service to see if both work and the wheels spin freely with the brakes off.
What anti-seize grease product do you use?
Great video! Thank you very much!
As always, you are truly amazing! Thank you!
"It's almost like I knew what I was doing" !! Great to see even a professional with years of experience doesn't find these a piece of cake 🍰. For someone who does this maybe once in five years it sure is a challenge. have spent TWO DAYS on mine, and still not finished. Got one side on. Second side, can't get the drum on. The diameter of the fitted shoes on the good side is 200mm, on the no-go side it's 5mm more, a few mm more than the i.d of the drum. Have dismantled them both again to compare and see if there is a machining error. Not that I can see. I notice that the top of the shoes are not pushing the sides of the piston in and yet the long spring pulling them both together where you had to shift it over even further (!!) was sooo hard to stretch. The rubber on the piston ends is kind of proud and you can see the pistons but it should be like yours with the rubber going in and hiding the pistons.... All ideas welcome on this my THIRD day! Thank you.
VERY VERY HELPFUL THANKS
Great video. Thanks from Sweden.
+Ulf Lundqvist Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks allot 😊😊 now i can do it self

Hit the outside rubber to pop it off it gives you more leverage and no your not going to shoot the tire and wheel across the shop with a small mallet or either one by themselves for that matter the lug nut is just to keep it from falling
Thank you for the awesome video. Can you please describe the adjusting method you briefly mentioned about driving in reverse in a parking lot? I can't find anything online about it
Did you find this anywhere online?
Awesome stuff. These old drum brakes are a royal pain in the ass to change with all their stupid finiky small clips and springs & such- its a good time.
For anyone wondering this process is very similar for the Ford Focus MK3
Thanks. Really good video.
+IM26C4U Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Amazing vid thanks
Thanx for good giude. My problem is now, that my shel do not fit after I change the brakes... Do i do something wrong?
6:22 Push a 10mm nut driver over the pin to compress the flat spring then pull with pliers.
I like her,
She's honest and real,
As a technician I know how hard that shut can get,
Am telling you
I just did my rear brakes on my fiesta but i want to know if there is any adjustment for handbrake ? because mine is not working at all and all my cables are working good.
Everyone is so thrilled how good this video. Its changing brake pads. That's it.
Or is ut because its a woman, omg it's a woman
Good job

Great video and advice, the best tip there is leave other side on as reference, every time. Similar to when changing drive belt/serpentine belt that drives all ancillarys, you think you can memorize it's position, when you try and fit new belt......hmmm.....it just won't go! Easy, take some photos of belt before removing, it will help!👍
The easiest way is to assembly all parts on the floor and put whole assembly on! This way you will not struggle with springs!
Also its good idea to grease both ends of break piston
Great Job...
+Michael Hacker Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com
Thank you share clip
Looking for more info on that e/parking brake adjustment with hand brake that she mentions please.
Did you find anything on this?
In theory; every time you use the parking brake; it adjusts the brakes to compensate for pad wear.
Outstanding.

Is this the same for a 2013 ford focus se? thanks!
Good video
At Approximately how many miles would you change the rear drum breaks?
Awesome video!
Is it the same process with a 2011, 1.2 l, ford fiesta hatchback?
+strigon46 Yes, it should be the same or a similar procedure.
Can you reply to my comment or you dont know?
When I see a qualified experienced mechanic handle the small details and annoyances with confidence I wonder why I ever try this at home. I used to enjoy working on cars but I dont love her anymore. lol
Oh great job thanks
Thanks so much . My drum can't rotate but once I removed the brake fluid pipe it's rotates ? What could be the problem
. It's a ford fiesta 2011 model
could be a sticky/ partially seized wheel cylinder and when you disconnect the brake line it releases the brake fluid behind the cylinder decreasing the force behind the cylinder which allows it to slightly retract itself releasing the shoes from the drum. The reason it is sticking when the brake pipe is connected is because if the cylinder is sticky anyway it will have a hard time retracting itself as it’s getting partial stuck. If you then have the pressure of the break fluid behind the cylinder as well, it will have an even harder time retracting itself due to the pressure of the fluid acting against it causing the shoes to remain pressed against the drum locking up that wheel.
well done gal
I was going to change my own shoes BUUUUUUUUTTTT I may just save the heartache and just have someone do it. Disk break pads are a cinch one you figure it out! My first time I changed pads was on an 89 Cadillac El Dorado. I didn’t know what I was doing and I figured it out. The only thing I needed to know was to push in the caliper with a C clamp so I can put it back on.
+Jeenkz K Thanks for checking us out!
Does anyone know if there is a disc brake conversion kit for the fiesta 2011
You saved me girl
I need a wife like her. Great Job!
Who else close his eyes when she spraying break cleaner😂😂
Yep I'll be paying some to do those 😁😁
awesome video just do to the fact it didnt go 100% at first those pins and springs a nightmare lol
Nice job though
Its much easy to do the work if you remove the hub with bearing first.
+Björn Holmgren Thanks for the tip!
mines a 2014 and it does not have the torque screws holding on the drum?
Won't matter, the wheel nuts hold.the drum on,the torque screws just were designed for bolts really,so the drum would stay still and the bolt holes line up when refitting the wheel.
She's great.
+G. C. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I noticed at the end of the video that this Fiesta is suffering from the same thing that happened to my 2011 SES. That @#$@ing wheel well lining in the rear rips up because it's made of material instead of plastic. What happened to me was that in the dead of winter I was driving 80kph (roughly 50mph) on the highway and suddenly the rear right of the car bounced up and I almost lost control. Turned out, a big chunk of ice was stuck to the lining and the weight finally ripped it, causing it to fall all over the wheel. The ice then must've gone under the wheel and dragged a chunk of the lining with it. That shit reached its limit and ripped off, but not before bouncing the car dangerously on a snowy road.
If you own a Fiesta and live where it gets snowy and icy in the wintertime; do yourself a favour and rip those linings off. They're useless and potentially dangerous.
Part number for the drum hardware kit? I can't find it on your website.
+Chris Sweeting I would be happy to look it up for you what is the year, make and model?
Proper tool for the job would have made this job so much easier. Using diagonal cutters to change springs is a big no no!
Good video for cars 10 years old, but this does not cover Fiesta 2018 onwards, its a totally different auto adjuster inside the drum.
Great video but using cutters to set the spring!? Not a good idea! Risk cutting or notching the spring!
Great video. But I would wear a dust mask when wire brushing any area around brakes, (Asbestos dust does not take prisoners)
Excellent, thought the mechanic should have worn a face mask to give protection from brake dust, but apart from that the video is 5tar,Thankyou
I wouldn't recommend ever getting brake parts cleaner on rubber because it will cause premature failure.
Cars back there look like they were driven under the sea. Rust/barnacles.
I have a ford fiesta 2012 model. I have a problem where the break adjuster keeps falling between the break pad and the drum. it jams the tires. So, I want to know why it keeps falling like that. Can you send me your email address so that I can show you what it looks like.
+Shree Ranjit We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Or take a pic on your phone before you start.
How can a wheel be this stuck😂
Why is it so complicated for the rear breaks??? Car manufacturers are so silly
First
It's not an "e-brake" or emergency brake. It's a parking brake.
Drum brakes are terrible.
what a rust bucket of a car
