To be honest i wrote down some stuff and the best way is to write down is to use the same clef as the violas but with a 8va, same as the treble clef witj 8va. you u can use the treble and bass claf aditionaly for some particular sections but the alto clef works for most of the range
I can see how the alto clef could be useful for some stuff. I see 2 major issues though. First is translatability to others since most guitarists don't know how to read Alto clef. If you put a piece written in alto clef in front of a guitarist, chances are they would just laugh.
Second would be the fact that you have to switch to treble and bass anyway for some sections since the range of the guitar is so huge. In my mind, it just makes things simpler to stick with bass and treble in the majority of situations.
