    Great, you’re giving me PTSD flashbacks to my 91’ interview with TWA. It turned out to be a great few years on the 727 than I started hauling boxes for a living . Last time I had an interview was when I started with UPS in 94. Really odd how I remember almost everything from both of those days, seems so long ago hard to believe that I am closer to getting my wings clipped by the government now for mandatory but I still have a few yrs left . Love your videos and the behind the scenes

    Student pilot here!! Juggling United, or southwest. United because I come from a United family, and southwest because of the culture and because I am just a huge fan of 737’s. I’m going to the navy to be aircrew man or aviation maintenance, and to get a degree or two. And hopefully I’ll be in that office within the next 10years or so. Much love Ernie. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

  • @LEVELGAZANOW
    @LEVELGAZANOW Před 4 měsíci +2

    I remember my interview in ‘99. It was the most difficult interview because Southwest interviewers are so disarming. You really had to stay on your professional toes. Definitely the most comfortable interview I ever had. I, regrettably, turned down the SWA offer and was hired with my Atlanta based airline. Big mistake. When we went bankrupt in 2006, it was mayhem. My wife, who accepted the SWA offer, has made more than me over our entire careers. She has a much better retirement than I do and I’m a heavy Captain. My 25 years in the airline industry has been complete turmoil. My wife? She smiles and enjoys her profession. Only now am I enjoying flying at my company. Great video Ern! I wish I would have accepted the offer years ago but once you made the choice of companies in this industry, you’re stuck.

    • @jcheck6
      @jcheck6 Před 2 měsíci

      I hardly feel sorry for you. Since 2008 you have experienced nothing but pay raises, bonus checks and Green Slips in addition to being put three years ahead of the company you merged with. Add to that the top 1800 retired early and you advanced not to mention when another large group took early retirement around 2004. I was hired in '85 and went through far more than you. A two income family making close to a million bucks/yr and you are complaining? Good grief. Who wants to fly a 737 their whole life.

    For one of my classes at school, we get internships and hace to go through the interview process. I had an interview to be a ground handler at one of the Airports like 30 minutes away from me and I had two people interview me. One of which I knew previously and my uncle also knows. My uncle is a previous Private pilot. Anyway, I was as prepared as I could have gotten and I didn't get it. It's fine since KIKV is too far I would have loved to be out by aircraft tho. The internship I ended up getting, hate I love it it's another one of my passions and I've fallen in love with it. My name as it states CarsNJets. The interview this time was much more laid back and a whole lot less pressure on me. I ended up getting it. Could you give me some interview tips for Aviation-related interviews Ernie?

    Not so strict or competitive based on what I know, maybe SW is the only big carrier that is tightening things down. Here is why: 3 FOs from regionals (FO's and not captains, think about that alone) were recently interviewed at another major carrier, while waiting to be called back to be interviewed they were in a waiting room. Another pilot walked in and they began asking that pilot some questions to pass the time. What equipment are you on? "Huh". What airplane do you fly is what we mean by that question. "Oh". That pilot told them the model of a corporate jet that they were an FO in. So someone asked, What is the max altitude that plane flies at? "I don't know". Another pilot asked, How fast does it fly? "I don't know that either." Apparently you could hear a pin drop at that moment until that corporate FO said, "Well, I just handle the radios." One of the 3 FO's from the regionals asked, Just curious as to how many hours you have? "250." Ok, on that jet? "No, TT." That person was hired and is now in the right seat of a 757. That story is one of many.

My only excuse is I'm 52, COVID and a UK resident, stuck with BREXIT, but a US citizen with an old FAA commercial from the 90's and we were locked down for 2 years with COVID restrictions in the UK making keeping my IR and 90 day currency impossible to keep current. what chance with SW would I have if I got my FAA ticket back current after 4 and 1/2 years?
