- Kam Chancellor was one of the best safeties that the league has seen in the past two decades. However, his career was abruptly stopped short, and many people didn't get to truly understand how phenomenal of a player he was in the secondary. That's why we are going to discuss the journey it's taken for Kam to reach the peak of the NFL.

How DOMINANT Were The Legion of BOOM?
czcams.com/video/JOgrwI7DYEA/video.html
You meant he played CB freshman year in college not QB
Kam was the enforcer for the best secondary that's ever been assembled. He was the heart and soul of the LOB, he was the soft spoken leader no one ever dared cross. He was a fabulous athlete, with a QB's understanding of offenses, but the hitting ability of the toughest line backer.
I liked Kam even more than Sherman and Thomas, and that's saying something!
Most feared safety of all time
No hes not… stop it
Players never wanted to be in the open field with Kam out there
Receivers were very thoughtful coming across the middle with Kam.
Of the LOB players, Kam was always my favorite. He wasn't loud or mouthy like Sherman, he didn't get too hyped like ET did, and he didn't snag as many interceptions as Browner/Maxwell. He was the quiet predator, like a shark in the shallows. If you were a receiver running a route over the middle of the field and you weren't ready to absorb the impact, he was taking your head off. You had guys wincing in the air before there was any contact because they were anticipating him coming. That hit on Vernon Davis is iconic - the hit was so hard, Davis' jersey was wet when he caught the ball and dry when he hit the turf. That rain halo that was captured in photos was spectacular. Or his well-placed punch on the ball to jar it out of Calvin Johnson's arm right at the goal line - what a shot! Bam Bam Kam always seemed to be superhuman in those moments. His best game was in the post season against the Carolina Panthers, were he ran an INT back for an 89 yard touchdown to ice the game, but prior to that, he was chipping in on special teams to block a field goal attempt at the end of the first half. He timed his jump over the line of scrimmage TWICE, causing the kicker to miss! Even though the refs called for offside, the second attempt looked clean. It's a shame his career ended so abruptly. That season was awful because they lost Kam, Sherman and Cliff Avril in the same season, and the team never recovered from that. He may not be enshrined in Canton at the end of the day, but to Seahawks fans, he's considered a member of their ring of honor. He still shows up to game days, mentors new defensive players, and cheers from the sidelines. I hope one day they'll offer him a role as a position coach. He's one of the best team players Seattle has ever had.
Agree. The “rain halo” hit was amazing & reminded me of Ali hitting Foreman & knocking the sweat off his head. Bam Bam Kam was the man on that team. His hits made opponents hurt, set the tone & changed games.
Also, I believe that Earl Thomas sewing Kam get hurt but still have one year guaranteed on his contract where he got paid is what made Earl want the same. Earl would’ve been on the 2019 Chiefs & got another ring but the Ravens offered him a 2 year contract. Then they decided they didn’t want him in year 2.
But Kam was the heart of the Legion of Boom.
Also I believe Kam Chancellor is worthy of the Hall of Fame. When looking at other players in the Hall, most declined by year 7 or 8 & had more typical career & stats that wouldn’t get them into the Hall without the great play in the prime of their careers. There are still echoes of hits made by Kam Chancellor today. 😀
HE WAS THE ENFORCER! A QUIET AND SERIOUS HIT MAN! EXTREMELY DEADLY!THE PUNISHER! 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
Sherman once described Kam like a lion in the Serengeti…
He should be in the hall of fame of a player is top of his position and they name a rule after him and the nfl feared him then yes he needs to in the hall just like Shawn kemp I guess if he played for the pats or cowboys he would be in there
Should have been Super Bowl MVP…..
Just like a lot of the legion of boom, if they kept playing just a little longer, or if they won Super Bowl 49, that play call on second and goal really sent them on a downward spiral, a 5 year legion of boom run could’ve been a decade with who knows how many rings, they were just getting started and it ended too soon 😢
@@LLC32 Not really - because Browner was playing on the Patriots and on that particular play, he called it out, having seen it in practice numerous times as a Hawk.
@@northof4912 I’m saying that if they made a better play call and won that Super Bowl, the legion of boom could’ve become a dynasty with more than 1 Super Bowl
@Amir Abdullah Nand But the LoB was with Browner - he was the father of it. It was only the 4 of them - Browner was gone, so therefore so was the LoB.
Bam bam is my favorite player ever. He was the definition of the enforcer, had an insanely high IQ and was the heart of the greatest secondary of all time. Legion of boom was a hell of a time to be a hawks fan
You just described everyone on the Legion of Boom. None of them were really fast, except Earl, but they all laid the wood and had super high football IQ's
No safety has ever habitually defeated pulling guards in the run game better than Kam. He very, very easily could have been an All Pro at Will linebacker, but his coverage was good enough to play him as an every-down safety. His ability to blow up the run game on first down was what gave the LOB a situational advantage of a "predictable passing play" on third down. He really was the key to that defense. He absolutely should be in the HOF.
Vernon Davis still checks under his bed for Kam before going to sleep at night
He was criminally underrated while playing... Deserved a lot more awards
I've lived in the Seattle Area for 34 years now. Kam Chancellor is by far, my favorite player that has ever worn a Seahawks Jersey. He's the hardest hitting safety we've ever had, and was an impeccable leader who'd strike fear into opposing teams who had to deal with him. Had he been able to continue his career and not suffer that neck injury, there is no doubt in my mind that he'd of been a first ballot Hall of Famer, if he had kept up that level of play for a few more years. He is and always will be a fan favorite for decades to come. Great video, and excellent content. Consider me a new subscriber and fan of your channel.
Really? You like him better than Largent?
@@enigma9971 I moved here in '89, the year Largent retired. Was too young to have seen him play, and I am fortunate enough to have watched all of Kam Chancellor's games. I respect Largent, and everything he did, but Bam Bam Kam's my favorite Hawk of all time.
Gave his body to the game and killed Vernon Davis every chance he got
My favorite Seahawk of all time it was a pleasure watching him play
KAM IS MY FAVORITE HAWK EVER....I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM ON THE COACHING STAFF THIS YEAR
The most feared Seahawk ever
He , along with Earl Thomas and Bobby Wagner made me a fan of the sport
Kam will always be my favorite seahawk. So much so, I named my first son after him. 💪🏽
I'm sure some people will disagree with me, but other than earls range, Kam's play was what made the LOB work. It wouldn't boom without him.
You are 100% correct my friend. Earl/kam
Bobby
Sherm
In terms of importance
@@BraedenBoyle-ox1nu completely agree.
He set the tone. Absolutely crucial piece.
One of my favorite LOB members. When he leap frogged sideways over his fellow D member ……priceless.
its unfortunate how one decision defined the Seahawks for over a decade, but that defense will live on in history as one of the best. it was awesome to see that team work.
They really were an amazing defense, worked so well together …
It didnt define them lol the LOB fell because pf injuries.
In college Kam was called the enforcer, then went to Seattle who's LAST STUD SS was "The Enforcer!" the first one, Kenny Easley, who held that nickname in the NFL( 1981-1987 ) who was one of the greatest SS ever to play the game but never gets the love or respect he deserves. Loved Kenny and loved Kam, they were true nightmare inducing players for opposing teams. In Kams case he still haunts Vernon Davis's dreams!
Favorite seahawk growing up, I'm happy he picked his health over still playing. Man played lights out every snap
1/2 of the best safety duo of all time! Great video!
At training camp in 2012 I asked Kam “How hard are you going to hit Vernon Davis this year?” He just smiled and said “I’m stronger than last year”
I think Kam by himself was a top 10 overall safety, with Thomas they were the best 1-2 punch at safety in the league easily. Although now that I think about it, watching the LOB at work, it was kinda like watching the Detroit Lions back in the day. You just knew Barry Sanders was going to have a big play. It was the same with Kam Chancellor, it was an amazing time to be a Hawks fan. One of my favorite all time Hawk.
Kam famously described as a 'destroyer of souls'. Indeed. My fav Seahawk of all time. His 31 is the only non-12 jersey I own. Nice clip... enjoyed it. Kam is all things Seahawk. He earned every extension and his dough. The injury was unfortunate but he again did the right thing stepping away. Thank you Kam Chancellor.
The Hall of Fame is the only way to honor the career of this man!!!!!
Nobody changed the atmosphere of the game like Kam.
He was real good, Real Real good Real Real real Good, the most important player on that LOB Defense in my opinion he put the BOOM in it with his crazy hard hitting that made that Defense work without him there was no LOB.
My All time favorite player!
I miss Kam Chancellor. He is one of my favorite football player. He played like Kenny Easley. Ronnie Lott and sean Taylor were the intimidators too.
My favorite Seahawk!
my favorite player in Seahawks history so far - not only was he awesome at football, his off field character just shines. One of the best who ever played the position -
Kam hit guys so hard that insurance companies stopped dealing with NFL players.
One of my favorite all time athlete, and great role model for youth athletes
I love it Kam, Marshawn and Bobby are my all time 3 favorite players. Great video
I loved how receivers played differently when he was on the field. The fear he put in grown men's heart was the bedt thing about him.
He was the hammer for the LOB
I love Kam my favorite player besides Kenny Easley I know everyone in Seattle feels the same about Kam. He’s a cool genuine person
I loved watching cam play hate to see his career was cut short. Go Hawks.
Kam is the most under-rated safety of all time... had he played 4 - 6 more seasons, that might have changed..
Great video with thorough and provocative content. Kam was my favorite defensive player coming out of Seattle next to Kenny Easley ( The original Enforcer). One of the best tacklers with just his shoulders. Didn't always need to wrap up the ball carrier with his hands and arms.
Kam is a HOFer, period.
He sure should be but they'll say his career wasn't long enough. It's ridiculous that these guys play such a violent game but when that violence shortens a player's career they say "sorry, you didn't play long enough". That can be their only case against him being in the HOF.
He should be hof
As a seahawks fan, my favorite player of all time
Most exciting player to watch ever.
Bam Bam Kam.. Seahawk legend, will always be. He put a hat on your ass. You know you got hit when the smelling salts woke you up after the play was whistled.
Kam was a flying sledge hammer on the field. Man was a dog the toughness of kam was on another level.
Kam is a BEAST!!! We miss you Kam
Anyone who went to those games and heard his hits in person, only those people truly know just how powerful he was
Dude. I was deep in the hawks nest, surrounded by screaming fans and you could still here it. Legend
@@TheWanderer4 big facts, dude had dynamite 😂
My all time favorite Hawk. He should have got SB MVP.
How good was Bam Bam Kam? Yes. Period.
Great video! Kam was my favorite player ever!
My favorite player ever
Amazing. Loved how he played the game, dominated and imposed his will on others, and nothing but respect for the man he is off the field.
DK running a slant route with Kam gunning for him. Wouldn’t mind seeing that match up or dk speed with Kam physicality
Dude, settle down. You're advocating for nuclear annihilation here
All time favorite player!
Kam was the BOOM in the LOB!!!
Kam Chancellor and Kenny Easley were my favorite Seahawks of all time. HALL OF FAME and should be in the ring of honor.
At his height and frame, he was easily the best SS even with all the competition. Watching him with his vision, IQ, speed AND power it was amazing to watch. Him and Earl Thomas were THE safety duo. I don't think people really understood how good he was
I started watching the Seahawks because of kam laying the hit on somebody and then from there on I turned to a fan. That team was the best we had hopefully we get something going now
Kam was a pleasure to watch. I was watching that draft very closely as another big hard hitting safty (Taylor mays) was coming out who played for Pete at usc. Mays was huge, and I felt it could be a key to run the d Pete wanted.
They passed on Taylor.
Then they picked Kam after Taylor went to San Francisco a couple rounds after the Tayler selection. I looked him up, thinking about the need of a hard hitting safty. He fit the bill. He was more physical, more intelligent, and instinctual that Taylor. It was amazing. However, he was out of position at fs and it really made him look bad as he seemed out of position. I blamed his coaching, not the ability.
He was that player, that man. I loved every minute of watching him play. It was a privilege. He should never have to buy a beer in the greater Seattle area.
One of my favorite all-time players.
Bambam is so missed. One of my favorite players of all time.
Cam was the best strong safety ever in his youth. Speed, coverage, and great tackler. I loved watching him play.
I love Kam. A straight monster
That hit on Davis is legendary! He still checks his closet for Kam!
Kam was my favorite player!!
Still my favorite player...
BAM! Good..
People from the Midwest love Russ. Those from California love 24. But if you from Seattle, we love Kam. Also Kearse cause he’s a Lakewood boy.
I’m from the South Sound and couldn’t stand stone hands Kearse… If it wasn’t for his drops against GB in the NFC Championship he wouldn’t need to have the walk off TD in OT.
@@randyrajkovich7394 yeah man, that was weird game for him. But he also had a SB TD and, if we had won the third one, he might’ve had one of the all time great catches. Or saying he was perfect but come on, the dude was fun
@@AleisterMeowley he was a product of the system. Golden Tate at least had good seasons on other teams where Kearse couldn’t make a roster after the Hawks. He was ok as a number 3 at best. I don’t have hometown bias for him.
My favorite player ever!!!! BamBam!!
Kam Chancellor best SS in franchise history, he was like LB playing S. I would've loved to have seen him catch Kittle going over the middle Bam Bam would've shut him and shut him down. Go Hawks
Thanks for making a vid on him truly deserved
Bam Bam is the man.... I have never seen so many pros getting alligator arms catching stuff over the middle
Edit: he prob shoulda been SB MVP imo too
And he’s and even better human.
Kam is my favorite Seahawk of All-time
BAM BAM....
Kam!!!!! Favorite player of all time!
Bam Bam Kam🔥🔥🔥💪💪💪🫡
I was afraid of him just watching on TV. I was listening to Seattle sports radio one morning and Cam was the guest. The host said they need a nickname for the defence and asked for suggestions. People called in with suggestions and about the forth or fifth caller had "The Legion of Boom", and Cam said "that's it!.
My #1 favorites Seahawk EVER!!! I don't know how anyone got back up after a Slam by Kam-Bam!! I miss you!!💙💚💙💚
How good was Bam Bam Kam? Legion of Boom, hit on DT in the SB, enough said. Class act.
He was the best. Love my Hawks.
When you think of a SS you think of BAM BAM KAM! And the fact he was in the 5th round!!
the seahawks really know how to draft their defensive backs in the late rounds
Nah actually i think more of Polomalu
He knocked the talent out of Vernon Davis
Bam bam has always been and will forever be my favorite player I meet him one time and it’s a crazy story but one I’ll never forget #LOB4Life
Really nice and informative narrative on Cam Chancellor. He was very fortunate and made the best of his opportunities. His mother must have been always praying for him.
Best Defensive monster Seattle had to this date .
He's one of my favorites too but I defer the best to Kenny Easley, who also had his career cut short
My favorite non-Chargers player. Loved that Kam loved to hit people.
Same here. He's also my favorite Non-cleveland and non-Buccaneers player. I can keep going
Kam was a freaking beast
Such a gruesome injury 😭
That Seahawks team didn’t let any team over 300 yards against them in that whole season when they whooped Peyton manning… one of the reasons why today I remember Defense wins championships
My personal favorite safety of all time
Besides an un necessary amount of replays of the endzone pick, like I think 4 times (I believe it's the only placed showed more than once). Great vid.
One of my favorite player of all time (if not THE favorite).
Game changer, Kam was the man!!!
If Kam (and Thomas and Sherman) wasn't battling debilitating injury in SB 49 the Hawks would've won like 24-10 just saying. All 3 really had no business playing in that game health wise.
Many Seattle defensive starters had already seen the end of their seasons before the game even started. By the time the game was over, there were only two defensive starters who weren't yet injured -- a nickel corner and one other star. Given all those injuries on defense, it's a miracle that the game was even close.
@@JustMe-vn5pq and the Hawks STILL should have won. It took a lucky gamble by Butler and a weak bitch WR in Lockette folding like cheap suit and letting Butler literally rip the SB out of his hands.
@@jtthomas7349 THANK YOU! Every one blames the decision to pass, but I've always said it was weak ass Lockette who threw the game. Marshawn was getting nowhere all day so I never blamed them for passing.
They was warriors for sure they will be remembered for ever I hope they put kam in the hall of fame !! Let’s help him get there I think there is that hate thing going on for Seattle like always he have to battle for ours to get in there even Kennedy didn’t make it first try which is like why? Or Easley
@Leon Hart Yeah, it's just the easy narrative for all the casuals who don't know how to watch a play in slowmo and see what really happened. Russ made the SB winning throw, right on the numbers. The only thing he did wrong was trust an absolute scrub like Riccardo Lockette. A teammate that then slinked off into the shadows and let Russ take ALL of the blame.
He was really really good
Cam was an absolute stud definitely one of my favorites! Great video.
for reals.
Kam Chancellor was one of the best defenders in NFL history.
for sure He controlled the field by pure will. Not many ever could do that. Think Ditka, Butkus, Mean Gean Greene. Yes I"m talking about heavy hitters.
He was old school " oh shit..its Kam" type of player.
Thank you for this video 👍
Just a flat out BEAST. An Elite football player. My favorite Seahawks defender of all time.
Impressive human off the field. I'll always remember Kam being chosen to show off the Seahawks new uniforms when the NFL transition to Nike. He was chosen because he embodied what Pete Carroll envisioned a Seahawks player is and looked like.
Pretty bad ass.
Great video. I had no previous knowledge of Kam's childhood or of his high school or college career. Thanks for the insights.
