- Lots of alternatives to resin out there - but what can you colour them with? I have good and somewhat surprising news for you! Colouring Eco Pour, Aquacast, Resincrete and all the other powder + water alternatives out there might not be as costly as you think
** Sorry I lost the unmoulding of the chameleon film clip but it was a deeply disappointing plain pale blue **

RESIN SAFETY ADVICE ⢠Alumilite Explains: Ep... - Jak na to + styl
Pigment paste is mixed with epoxy resin (some use part A, others use part B), and we all know epoxy resin doesn't play well with water or oil products. Great tutorial experiment.
Took the words out of my fingers lol. I was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it.
Great point!
I think my favorite one is the acrylic paint
Yes it worked well. since I made this video I discovered the colours from Homeware Designs, Boowan Nicole and Create & Bloom. Mush easier to use and much more intense colours :)
They look delicious. They Remind me of the valentine's candies. Just add words on top đ
Oh yes! They do look a bit like that.
Thanks for testing! Everything duly noted. đ
Glad it was useful
Thanks for testing this for us. â¤â¤â¤
My pleasure đ
VERY helpful, Tracey! I can't over the alc ink and food coloring...awesome surprise! A not-so pleasant surprise was the pigment paste. Honestly thought it would work well, but no!
Thanks for taking the trouble to do so many experiments! đâ¤
You are so welcome!
Pigment paste isn't water soluble and alcohol ink is color with liquid that evaporates
Apparently not no :(
Yes, pigment paste is oil based đ
Hi Tracey great video, i was shouting at the screen saying no dont use paste as it epoxy based đ great results with the food colouring and paint, thanks for sharing â¤â¤â¤ xxx
Lol thanks Michelle - and you won the T Shirt slogan competition. Please would you email me - miniscenesgb@gmail.com - to let me know what size T Shirt :)
Sadly, I believe the food coloring will fade over time. But fun experiment!
Yes it might, time will tell. But interesting to see that it worked. The acrylic paint is the biggie for me
Ive used alcho ink, mica, nail varnish, chalk, pigment paste and fluid, oil and acrylic and wood stain! I found if you mixed with the water and add it to the powder especially the pigment paste and fluid worked better, but still gave the stone look, which i liked on the bath đ
Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing all that info
I love the experiments too see what works and what does not. It's fun to guess what will happen and then see what actually happens. We have not tried any other materials other than resin. I figured liquid that is soluble in water would work. Thanks for the fun time. đ
Glad you liked this one. I do love messing about and experimenting :)
Nice experiment! I think the resin paste is a fail bc itâs the pigment mixed with the part A of epoxy resin. Seem the pigment would have absorbed the resin (part A) and thus it becomes not water soluble. I remember a while back seeing several videos of Part A being used to make pastes.. I now make my own pastes when I have excess of part A left at the end in the bottles instead of throwing it away. We can make special color mixes (like interference red with purple micas..or any combo imaginable) I have loads of different special colors we canât buy on the market. Anyway I love your experiment today!!! I donât work with this medium or jesmonite but itâs always interesting to see & thereâs usually a take away for the medium Iâm using. Have a lovely dayâ¤â¤ see you in the next đš
You're probably right there. I didn't try any of my own pastes for that reason too :)
Thank u so much
You're welcome
This stuff looks cool. Since I don't have a safe place to work with resin I may get some of this to play with!
It's fun stuff and the makes are surprisingly durable. I'll be making jewellery with it soon, it's very versatile, and yes, safe :) If you do, don't forget to use the discount code - MiniScenes15. 15% is worth saving :)
@@miniscenesgb thanks! I'll remember to do that!
I wanted to see the other one as well
Other one ? If you mean the blue chameleon one I missed, it was just a boring, flat pale blue. Really disappointing đ
This was SO helpful! Thank you for taking the time to do this and share your ideas. It is great to know about acrylic paint, food colouring, and alcohol inks. They look lovely. I received my Aqua cast yesterday, and I'm looking forward to trying out some new colours. The pigments i bought specifically for eco resin were very drab and disappointing. Now, i can use up a load of paints and inks. Your tutorial was much appreciated x â¤
You're welcome. I'm not sure if the food colouring might fade over time, but it really worked. For me the best was the acrylics as that opens up unlimited possibilities
Great test but didn't you forget one? The chameleon powder?
I didn't - as it says in the description that bit of video didn't work. But the chameleon came out just a boring pale matte blue
pigment paste is made of colouring with part A of resin, resin n water not mix
Yes, it's either part of resin but yes I'm sure you're right
I wonder if acrylic paints with glitter in them would work? I have a bunch of those. Thanks for the experiment!â¤
Great idea! Do let us all know, that sounds like a worthwhile test
Just a thought. Perhaps the Pigments may be mixed with something to make it into a paste that doesn't react well with the water in the eco pour? An oil based liquid perhaps?
Yes a few people have commented that itâs one part of a resin mix so yes youâre right
Thank you for another fun, informative video. đ Have you tried putting the chameleon powder on the mold first? I wonder about gold foil on the mold, too?đ¤ So happy the alcohol ink and mica powder worked, Ihave a ton of those.đĽ°
Yes I have - it's not great. it just doesn't stick. I wouldn't bother to be honest. these eco resin alternatives just aren't sticky. it will mix into the powder though, but its so disappointing. better results with the other colourings - and cheaper too
I also use water based inks Tracey and that as so helpful â¤
Good to know!
Keeping the chameleon results to yourself I see đ
I don't know what happened to the clip of the chameleon but it came out just plain matte blue
Pigment pastes are oil based so they can mix into resin.
Unfortunately as Eco Resin is water based itâs will be incompatible, so wonât incorporate in.
Acrylic / water based or powdered pigments should all work to some degree
@@miniscenesgb you actually left it in the mold...oops!
Great experiment Tracey⌠thanks so much for sharing!
I did notice, however, that you didnât show us the result of the chameleon powder heart⌠the one in the bottom left of the mould??
Much love from Brisbane, Australia. âĽď¸âĽď¸đŚđş
Yes, as I mention in the description that bit of film didn't work. However it was a really boring pale blue, really not worth doing :)
@@miniscenesgb Oh, Iâm so sorry⌠I donât know why I didnât read the description, as I usually always do! đ¤Śââď¸
That will teach me for not being thorough⌠although, in my defence, it was 5.00 in the morning and I was just starting on my first coffee!! 𤣠đ¤Ł
Love, Nat. âĽď¸âĽď¸đŚđş
@@mattersofthehartbynat8815 haha no problem of course. I hope you enjoyed your coffee ;)
It will need to be water soluble
Yes
Lovely pastel colors in eco pour,Ms Tracey,.Nice experimenting, Ms Traceyđđđ .I love all the colorsđ
Thanks so much đ For me the biggest revelation was the acrylic paints - endless colour choice
Ive just invested in the whole range of jesmonite colours so a little bit pissed.. and I have so many acrylic paints. Will have to mumble to myself for a bit..in a corner somewhere. đ
lol I know what you mean but I have to say that the Jesmonite colours work and are very strongly pigmented to I am still using them :) And if you have Jesmonite - I tried acrylics in Jesmonite and it didn't work, so if you have Jesmonite you will be glad you got those colours
Hello Tracey. 14:30 the beautiful purple pigment powder - I hunted everywhere for your amazon link to it, but I can't see it - probably me! Would you mind pointing me to it, please?
It's such a perfect colour for some mini violets that I want to make for a friend. Thanks so much! đđźđ
A yes I'll take another look. I thought I'd linked it
there - it's on the description with the video now. It was on my main product list so if there's anything I miss, it's worth a look there too. the link is at the bottom of the description. Once they let me have an amazon storefront it'll be so much easier - 1 link for almost everything :) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124928968503?var=426005455168
I use Resincrete here in the US, and I've found that alcohol ink makes it set up fast, sometimes in the cup. :( thank you for the experiment! Didn't you miss demolding one? the teal color
Yeh it can do. I think you have to go sparing with it. Eco Pour seems to handle it better I think
Have you tried chalk paint? Great video. I just got some Resincrete. I canât wait to try it. Thank you Tracey!
Yes I have. It works fine on Eco Pour. I don't use Resincrete so I can't speak for that. Main issue is sealing it as most sealants smudge it, and also of course limited colour range. but it does basically work
Wow! Thanks so much for showing us all of this. Do you happen to have a link for that purple mica, please? TIA, and Happy Creating!!!!
I need to try to find it - it was a random purchase some months ago. Leave it with me, I'll pop it on the description when I find it and also the community posts
Found it! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124928968503?var=426005455168
Thanks so much for this! i learned a lot! i tried metallic alcohol ink and it does not mix in...i'm happy to see acrylic paint mixes in so well as i have heaps of it! what happened with the chameleon powder?
I lost that bit of film I'm afraid, but it was just a flat boring light blue, no shine or colour shift. Would have got the same effect with a dot of blue paint :(
Why do you stir over the moulds? It splashing out
It splashed once. Because that is how to stay in camera shot
This has helped out soo much. I have ordered myself some resincrete and afterwards thought how or what am i going to use to colour it . I do have acrylic paint and also alcohol inks also mica powders but i dont think i wil be using them as i dont have alot lol. Was thinking on ordering some water based inks but seeing this not sure if i need to now . Thankyou so much
I honestly don't know what to advise re ResinCrete, I've only used it once sorry. Have fun :)
@@miniscenesgb NP at all i am kind of thinking it might be the same , once i get it i will have a play around and let you know if you liek heheh
@@selene4621 similar I think :) I preferred Eco Pour so I stick with that :)
@@miniscenesgb awesome
What happened with the chameleon powder one?
As it says in the description and several other comments, I lost that bit of video. But heck it wa disappointing - just a dull flat blue :( It's one to not bother doing I'm afraid
Would this be the same as jesmonite? I mean what can you color jesmonite with?
probably but I don't know for sure as I don't use jesmonite, I just don't get on with it personally. The expert on this would be Claire's Crafty Corner. The mediums I use just mix with water so anything water based works. Jesmonite is a 2 part medium so I'm not sure
how did the chameleon powder do? was there any colour shift?
None, I just ended up with a fairly boring plain pale blue. I'm sorry that bit of film didn't work :(
@@miniscenesgb oh that's a shame, was hoping the shimmer would come through. (didn't mean anything about the filming was just curious.đ¤
@@lisapedley5427 I was disappointed too :(
Thanks for testing! Everything duly noted. đ
Glad it was helpful!
