What happens to old $250k 1300WHP Formula Drift cars?

- In this video we check out Nick Nobacks E46 BMW drift car that used to make 1300 WHP and be a force in professional drifting. But since it had a subframe mount tweaked, he took the car apart and basically left it for dead, which is so sad and what basically happens to most race cars I assume. But it makes a fun video!
Sloback is 100% NOT the fastest car in the grid. He was a fucking pylon last night in Irwindale
To be fair he said the car, not the driver/car.

He was talking in pasted l,tents saying this retired car was fastest in FD with 1300 RWHP turned up...not his current ride that he won last event in....
Good stuff, apart from the fastest car on the grid, two cars went into the wall trying to stay behind him.
@@shiftinggearsmedia no one said is was drag racing, but claiming to have the fastest car and having two cars go out trying to stay behind you as you are so much slower than any other car on the grid isn’t a look.

Well… I’m sure this was recorded before the irwindale event. But his car isn’t the fastest on track… when they did the side by side with odi it wasn’t even close.

About 20-25 years ago I saw onboard footage of WRC rally cars, and thought that would be such a cool form or racing to get involved in. Then I went to a rally event in the US and saw how much damage most crews were fixing in the pits. It only took that one visit to the pits to realize I could never afford to destroy a car like that. I've had similar experiences watching drifting, I'm impressed by the drivers but I'm not in the position to write off a car like that. I have plenty of fun at autocrosses and HPDE days, and then I drive my car back home.
You don't have to total your car every lap, I daily my drift car that has been to 30+ events. I've tapped doors in it, had some close calls but really if you learn to drive good you aren't gonna be crashing your shit all the time.
And this is professional drifting it's a go full tilt at all costs or go home kind of sport
Buy a cheap car and just get out there

Because I'm sure a lot of people feel its an undeserved win, myself included. Unlike with JD vs Odi he didn't win by doing something outstanding like crazy transitions and literally door to door mirroring, he won by default because the other competitor crashed and the reason they crashed is because Noback's car doesn't have any grip and is slowaf. That happened with almost every battle except with Odi. And I'm pretty sure Odi held back trying to anticipate Noback being slower.
@@AWSimDrifter all I’m saying is, drifting isn’t about speed. Example, Odi’s car was so turnt up he wasn’t hitting the OZ’s in his lead. Nick’s car probably was higher wheel speed and less gripped up, but his leads were some of the best all weekend.
@@brandongardner404 he for sure had it set up loose to look good in qualifying and, after the score he got, probably didn't change a thing. I see nothing wrong with that. The other spotters would have taken note and told their teams about his pace anyway.

@@Mr_jz_12 I don't get what your emphasis on the car part is about. The car is slow compared to other cars in the grid, period. Everyone crashed behind him not because of his driving, but because there's just not enough grip in the car compared to everyone else on the grid.

Race cars are tools like any other. They only have value to us when they work, or are part of the plan. When used up and replaced, they're no longer of value. The proverbial race horse put out to pasture or to stud... in the case of race cars, studding is donating parts to the next car.
When we start to become old men, we look back on the better memories with our cars and forget why we lost affection or affinity towards them. At some point you try to track down that old car or revive it. Sometimes you can get that old spark back and feel at home in the seat, most times it's not the same since our memory sets expectations reality does not serve.

Hurst is pretty ungodly fast on some tracks, too. Probably the RTR cars overall tho.
Deans viper would most likely be the fastest if he would set it up that way. But then one lap and the tires would be smoked. His car is always turned down to 1400ish hp from the 2200 it can make.

Can't believe he said he has the fastest car in FD with his whole chest. EVERYONE that went up against him complained about how slow it was. Even Jarod DeAnda commented on how slow it was during the battles with Castro. I'm glad he got himself a win but my god that was the worst thing to watch him stand on the brake while pedaling through every zone and making it almost impossible to chase him close because no one is going to set their car up to stand on the brakes like he did. There has to be an amendment to the rules for FD to deal with this loophole in terms of pace; there shouldn't be a side by side view that has one side finish the lap while the other is just getting to the 2nd outer zone. Something like a huge pace difference should be deemed unchaseable at the level of the Pro 1 cars are now.

There’s no way 250k in that car but pretty much all motorsports are unbelievably expensive I think drifting is on the cheap side compared to open wheel racing where f3 and f2 cost a couple million a season to race
@dylanhaili5646 bro your comparing drifting to the top racing maybe gt class or cup class will be better honestly spec miata racing is one of the cheapest drifting isn't really racing more just cool to enjoy for fun then competition cause now it's way to expensive if your not a big time baller to get into win your Fd license to climb the later but if you make that money will be nice to know how to live dreams like this that leave you sad knowing you can't but can still go rip around a stock car for fun with simple mods

"Almost" no car is beyond repair when you really think about it. Some cars just take WAY MORE time to fix. So it would be super awesome if someone could become a middle man for finding these old cars new homes on a budget. They might not be perfect but most still have great cages and that's one of the largest costs of going bigger. Measure, cut, measure, weld, measure, thrash. LETS GO!!!
