Go to Mamobi and its surrounding, people living in sharks and say they are living in the capital of Ghana . Government can take over all those houses demolish, build skyscrapers and give them part to live in . We can yes we can. Go to Russia and see.

The whole of Accra is not as developed as Maitama District alone in Abuja or even Banana Island in Lagos. These are places that can be compared to anywhere on earth. But I don't blame you. Once we are not up to the US yet, Nigerians don't believe they are moving. Ghana can start something like Nigeria. Breakaway from the colonial capital, build a new capital city the way Nigerians built Abuja. They can as well do what Nigerians are doing in Eko Atlantic City, a city rising from the sea. Stop

Humans have the tendency to criticise when one desires to do good. The pessimist would say this is not possible. The optimist knows that this is more than possible WHEN we put in the work. Why do we always think Africa would amount to nothing? Africans don’t even believe anything good can come out of our continent. We have what it takes to achieve anything. We need to remain disciplined and visionary at all times. Every great thing starts with a plan. All great cities were built. Accra can be built! God keep Ghana and Africa!

The only problem is that we have so far not demonstrated the discipline nor the requisite vision that would allow us to stand out as qualified members of the international community. The President can begin by giving this project to Ghanaian architects to express their talent, and keep the money in Ghanaian hands. Jobs for Ghanaians should be the benchmark by which we measure these aspirations. In any case, Vladimir's comment above should give everyone pause for deep introspection. Build the underlying infrastructure before layering ornamental projects atop of it.

1:37 because they cannot even put together a comprehensive map of Accra and they're talking of replicating Singapore. Singapore did not develop in a vacuum. There needed to be many laws and compromises to achieve the results you see today. Strick anti-loitering laws to maintain cleanliness, for example chewing gum is banned! Government pushed for family planning in the 80s to control population growth (of course this is understandable as Singapore occupies roughly 750 sq kms). They increase the school day to 12 hours a day and focused on technical and professional courses during the early years of their developmental journey. Government forced citizens to save through CPF and used the savings to build infrastructure. Reduced taxes to the bearest minimum to attract foreign enterprises. Set up Sovereign Wealth Funds and used their leverage to acquire foreign technology by buying foreign companies. All this and more had to be in place before they could ascend to where they are today. There was no hype! They weren't looking to become the new Japan. It was just sheer hardwork and the desire to create a prosperous society. That was all it took.

I agree that Accra must be re-planned sir! But think of it: the cost to do so could build a new capital city somewhere on a virgin land in B/A. That move alone could de-congest Accra because some businesses will definitely re-locate.
The cost of re-building Accra comes with 're-location cost' which could be huge especially in a democracy where every Tom, Dick and Harry could sue the Government! However, this cost coupled with unnecessary legal battle will be eliminated if we consider a new capital with a STRICT adherence to building code and zero-hawking tolerance plus the freedom to build Singaporean-like skyscrapers or structures.

Why dont we just develop a new city altogether like Abuja in Nigeria, or like the 'ghost towns' of China? Accra with a size of only 24 square miles, but a whooping population of 4 million inhabitants leaves no room for easy infrustructural development. This makes it the most densely polulated city in terms of population per square mile of any city. - I mean, the Dallas Forthworth airport in Texas, 29.8 square miles is bigger than the land area of Accra. You would have to move people and properties around, and compensate everyone to be able to develop Accra infrustruactully. Leave Accra alone and develop other places.

Good plan but i suggest that instead of thinking about Accra for the moment is quite irrelevant. Accra is already cooked and there are no more enough land to carry out such huge project. I think the planner has said the truth there. Everything is all about Accra, Accra. If all the remaining regions are made developed like how Accra is at the moment, rural urban migration would have stopped, unemployment would have been reduced, cost or death on our roads would have been reduced. Jobs would have been established plenty for the you but , it seems like everything is centred in Accra. I would prefer, Accra should be developed as the last city , then begin the projects from the other regions, like the northern regions, the bono and ahafo region, Volta and many others to raise their standards to at least like current Accra or somehow closer. I see it a waste of money where we may have to destroy the already built to replace a new project.
