"That Was A Crazy Game of Poker" - The Wanderer, 1997
My twenty thrown down in my fist of rage
And the man to my left just folded down
Johnny doubled up with a Royal Flush
I had three jacks and a pair of nines
My mind is turning just two shots more
There's not much left to play
Then dude walks in Black hat on top, what a mop
I'm lucky it wasn't a county cop, cause I'm just running out of time
Who's up for game two, what to do?
My wallets getting thin and I just lost my watch last night
I got a problem, just one answer got to throw it all down
And kiss it goodbye
That was a crazy game of poker
I lost it all
But someday I'll be back again
And I'm never to fall
Never to fall
Who's up for game three?
I can barely see the bourbon drowning next to me
And I just lost it all
Well there's a man sitting next to me
Red with smiling eyes
It's funny I don't have no money tonight.
That was a crazy game of poker
I lost it all
But someday I'll be back again
And I'm never to fall
Never to fall
Bada biba... ... ...
I say now skitili dat dat dat well how bout that
I'm coming out the front never coming out the back
I walked into the bar yesterday
Cause I had something to do, something to say
And Johnny walked in right behind me and
I didn't turn around
Until I hear the sound of his feet falling
On the ground, looked over my shoulder
And I saw a clown
And I said what are you doing in the bar tonight?
And I said Johnny whatcha doing tonight?
He looked at me with a face full of fright
And I said how about a revolution?
And he said , right.
I say of, you say a, I say revolution, and you say Jah 2x
And I said what are you looking at?
He hit me across the face with a bat.
I grabbed my .45 and I said let's get out and go
Well so he opened the door, and said "now, whatcha here for?"
I said I'm wanderin' down the road 44
And I said I've been walking for about a thousand years
And my feet are growing tired
My eyes a little wired
Don't know what to do unless I retire
And he just said let's play some crazy poker
And I said Johnny whatcha doing tonight?
He looked at me with a face full of fright
And I said how about a revolution?
And he said right.
I said that was the craziest game of poker that I ever saw
I said that was the craziest game of poker that I ever saw
But Im not gonna quit and I'm not gonna stop
I don't give a shit cause I got the drop
Johnny just got two eyes just like mine
And I'm feeling kind of funky, kinda fine
Cause I drank a bottle of whiskey before I came
Came to the bar to see what's the same
I saw my man named Johnny sitting across the table from
And to my left was a man he had no gin
He didn't even think about starting to sin
The man to my right, wasn't feeling very nice
He looked kinda mad and I felt bad
Because I took his money last night
Now I'm just struggling
I need a honey bunny
I don't know what to say anymore
So Im just going to go out the front door.

It seems like all of us who went to college in the early 2000s have a special connection to this song. That's awesome.
my uncle showed me this song and told me it was him and his buddy’s drinking song
That's because if you were in college at that time, this song was played over and over every night!! Great times!
Yes!!! The song for so many road trips, spring breaks, study sessions, etc!!! Nothing puts me in a great mood like this song!
Wow I was thinking the same thing about this yesterday it was the most popular song when I was a freshman, rushing fraternities
Funny, it reminds me of going to war
Man I listened to this on repeat in College, on deployments to Iraq, and still. Love O.A.R!
I bet that was a crazy game of poker
I also listened to it in Iraq. I was a gunner and my driver thought I was listening to Christian music!
@@MichaelBrown-19D awesome, dude!
You GD right
Constantly listened to this in college too! Love the energy of this song
When the parties all but over and there’s just a few of you left in the trashed college apartment and a song like this comes on it’s spiritual. It will give you a shot to the soul.
...and someone pulls out a bowl
I’m 14 and my parents played this like 40 times on our road trip. I told them I didn’t like it so they played it over and over again. I can’t let them know that I fw this song
1981 - 1985 peeps. This was the song of our niche generation.
My wife was born in 1985 and she missed it :( but she lived in Wisconsin
@@MrSlinkymellosconie here to check in saying that is not the reason. Anthem of my college years '01-05
Yep. ‘83 here.
Man, all the college parties from 2000-2003 were playing this
When I started college in 2002 and moved into the dorms, so many people were hyped on this song and playing it. You'd think it was on the radio, MTV, and VH1, but OAR never really got any mainstream exposure. The song still reminds me of that first year and all the good times my friends and I had.
Brother, the song is 20+ years old
yea 2002 was the year, I know the song is older but in fall 02 it was always on at the parties
OAR was mainstream underground if that makes sense. I saw them live in college.
Same!
Born in 91, music fanatic extreme, and somehow never heard of O.A.R. I'm truly upset I didn't get to revel in this song sooner in my life.
This is like the soundtrack to my college years. Sitting around at one in the morning, talking with your friends, not a care in the world. You're young, good looking, full of dreams. You'll never be old and uncool like your parents.
Then one day...
And 25 years later here we are! Receding hairlines, gray hair and getting flabby 😂😂 jk
The 20 minute long live version is epic.
From the first time I heard this in a small Vermont bar till today almost 20 years later. STILL MY NUMBER ONE JAM. I LOVE THIS VERSION😁😁😁😁😁😁
didn't know leaf peepers loved oar!
After 20 years of listening to this song, in college, on long drives, on the ship while deployed - envisioning the story line - it's pretty cool to see it come to life in it's own way. My #1 song by my #1 band. Thanks gents.
You are...38!
@@strigilives I turn 38 this year
Folk, blues, reggae...what more do you want? Thanks OAR!
Some of my happiest nights were when I was at the local irish bar on the weekends with my other friends who were home from college drinking and listening to O.A.R. blasting on the speakers!
I am 59 and this is best poker song. You don’t have to go to college in 2003 to love it.
If this was t the BEST college party jam… I don’t know what is. G Love and Special Sauce is a close second
One of the best storytelling songs of all time!
Ghetto Cowboy is a close 2nd
We were all held hostage by this song in college. Now we’re nostalgic about it.
5:00 this is 100% accurate
Some of my BEST memories listening to you guys with my BFF. still best friends to this day. We saw you when we were 15 at the tiny Roseland theater in Portland (OR). We’re 31 now and still and will always love you guys more than you’ll know! 👏🏼💓
That sounds creepy. Love your music I meant haha
God bless you all!!!!
After listening to this song for 20 years, I still sing some of the lyrics incorrectly. This lyrics video proves me wrong every time.
It was Summer 2005. I was 14. The girl I liked was listening to this song on the beach with her friends. I lingered around until someone finally mentioned the name of the band. Then I walked over and said "oh man are you guys listening to OAR? I love them." She became my first real girlfriend a few weeks later. We'd make out for hours listening to this, Hey Girl, all the classics. Life was good.
Lmfao, classics 😂
Lol so you lied to get laid? 👍🏻
@@bms77 Pretty much😬
This song brings back so many memories. All so positive ♡ oar will always have a place in my heart
same, this song always makes me think of my brother and one of our close friends... they'd always play this during poker. If I could go back and just have one of those days back knowing what I know now.
Pretty girls like you always seemed to go along with OAR in my college days lol. Cheers!
So many memories growing up listening too this..
How dare CZcams interrupt this songs with advertising. Right in middle nine the less. This song brings me back big time.
I played sports at Ohio State when OAR was there, I’d go listen to them. 12 months later I’d be getting shot at in Iraq as a Marine infantryman. Life’s weird but I like the music.
My friends and I played the hell out of this album and it was such a perfect album for all the great memories. Best was seeing OAR in 2002 at Jones Beach.
Reminds me of Keystone Light and sweet sweet college years! This song is the shiiiiit!
This song is definitely shiiiiiit
Listened to this song on repeat while deployed to Iraq. Loved it then and love it now.
You only love this song, if you went to college in the early 00
I sang this song so many times with my ex husband while he played it on his guitar. It takes me back to being a teen, wild and free!
How u gonna put an ad halfway through this song
Excellent song
My buddy played the hell out of this song in college. Took me a bit to warm up to OAR, and to be honest, this will never be my favorite of your songs (Blackrock), but this certainly holds a place in my fond memories 😊
July 6 2023. Still my Jam!!!!
July 26th still my jam!
After 20yrs...finally a music video. LOL.
It is cool to see a video to this song.
34th & 8th was a On Repeat album for sure. Bonfire parties accessible only by way of 4x4 drive. Alabama loved this at the same time Corey Smith music caught on.
Yup....university of Toledo was rocking out O.A.R ......GOOD TIMES
Marshall University too!
I was at BG 04-08 can confirm this song was always on rotation.
College of Charleston
I sought out this song because of a story I heard from a Navy seal about a Navy SEALs death, glad I did it reminded me of my best friend
HOW BOUT A REVOLUTION?! and he said RIGHT!
This was my favorite song in 2003 when I was in third grade
Dang I love this song. Long live O.A.R.!
When I am feeling good or bad this is my song to listen to and sing along with :)
Cheers to you, Katie. I will think of you often and miss you forever. This is our song.
I’ve been waiting a decade for this.
First got to jam out live to this nearly twenty years ago. And in a few months, I'll get to do it again. Cannot wait!
Great song. Brings back halcyon days of youth, though that nostalgia wounds me slightly. The friends and times had then will never repeat...
This song never gets old. I remember lesten to this while I did my homework and parents worked on fixing up our new childhood house. The oar cd would blare the whole time lol
This brings me back to 2002/3ish during college in Maine - legendary parties always had this one
Oh man, this song brings back some memories...
This was such a college song!
Who ever did this is one awesome individual or an awesome collective group of individuals either way its great ! And wow the diff from then and now😉😂😂
Great song! Love the energy of it; kinda upbeat but a little downtrodden at the same time. Everybody can get something out of this song
That's the magic of the song. A wide range of emotion. Hopeful, yet sadly realistic.
My favorite song
This video is like something you'd see on old school newgrounds video. It also reminds me of that cameo they did on College University, ah nice memories. Anyway, great video, guys!
One of my favorite songs
Damn guys, I can't believe you did that official video, just so friggin awesome. This has been the soundtrack to my first ever time in the U.S.
Takes me back to WVWC in the year 2000. Best years of my life.
Best friend and I would listen to this on our cruises back in the day. And that's all i have to say about that.
The songs never get old. Love it king!
Umm it gets very old imo lol
This song will get stuck in your head!
In the most obnoxious way too
brings me back, i’m a senior in high school and a long time ago when i wasn’t looking at colleges, or even thinking about life, i was 5-6 at most, me and my dad would drive around blasting this.
Never heard of this song until 2 years ago... Now I am amazed by it
2002 was a great year
My Favorite song 🙂
Nothing like multiple ads in the middle of a song when trying to listen to the music.
I hope the next time the creator listens to music he has to deal with ads in the middle of a song
Of a REVOLUTION
Let's do this
my favorite song jah jah jah
EVERY LYRIC VIDEO SHOUKDNBE FUN LIKE THIS.
Yeah man nice re-up. This song was a staple 15 years ago. I mean it. We went to colleges to see u usually if there was a ufc at the same time. Keep it going. Fucking beautiful music boys.
Auburn University checking in here circa 2000
you better get started on that revolution.
I think 34th and 8th might be my fave versions there are some others with with or without you and no woman no cry I burned about 20 years ago now
I just listen to this and The Gambler on repeat while I play poker on Red Dead Redemption 2 because I’m too broke to play real poker.
I love this song, but I fucking HATE how old it makes me feel.
🔥
Sigma Chi Derby Days forever seared into my brain. Nothing better than Spring Quarter at THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY!
Bopppity bop bop biddeh bop, beep bop bop bop. Beepity beepity bop beep beep bop bop bop bop bop bop bop bop…
Why is this a college song? These guys I knew from LSU were obsessed w this damn song and would play it almost every day in the office back in 2009-2010. I got so sick of it hahahaha. Most will say “then why are you here?” And my answer is simple.. to try n remember how the song went to see if I’d still find it annoying and I do. That’s just me tho🤷🏼♂️.

Johnny got two eyes. Thems are snake eyes.
MM ROLY POLY
Johnny, whacha doin tonight?
Was anyone else at the concert at T Ed Garrison? 💜🦾🤘🏻🌞🫶🏻🎈
I tried to share this crazy game of poker... but I, never to fall ✌️ ☮️ so I said Johnny what cha doing tonight? He said oh & I said right ✅️
How does this only have 900 likes in 2022
Maybe because the animation is so bad.
Thank you to the gentleman at the Golden Nugget poker room for introducing me to this song. 👍
Brother hunters song 🎵
So, I had the ABSOLUTE WORST concert experience at an OAR show in Milwaukee. Had a bad taste in my mouth for them ever since. And yet, here I am listening to ‘em. 🤔
What was the experience?
I never knew how this would play out,
I guess I still dont.
Miss you Pottsy.
He sang "Red was smiling."

Of the dozens of versions of this song I've heard over the years, this studio version I like the least. Sorry to say, but the live versions are the best.
I agree. I only got into O.A.R. about a dozen years ago and my first album was Rain or Shine. I heard many live versions before I ever heard this and it just doesn't sound right. It's true of a few of their old songs for me: King of the Thing, About Mr Brown, this etc. I love the live versions but the old studio ones sound odd to me.
The Ran Or Shine version is my favorite.
I just needed to tell someone that I just scared the bejewesus outta my best friend (we listen to this a lot) by pretending to sleep then shouting “N I SAID JOHNNY WHAT YOU DOIN TONIGHT” and then, after he calmed down I said, “you looked at me with a face full of fright” and he said “omfg you’re a wh0re” and I said “……no I’m a wh-O.A.R.”
That is all.
I wrote a screenplay of this song just to learn how to write in screenplay format.
😅
Iraq.
🫣🫢🌩🐍🐍🐍🐍. Cheerio, Vermin-MatoRussellGrover 🐍🐍🐍🐍.
It's just silly. One player can't have a JJJ99, and the other a royal flush. IDT?
Why not? JJ on J99QT when the other guy has AK would do the trick. And that's not considering other poker games besides hold 'em that use more cards.
Wow. I had the lyrics wrong in my head. Like, REALLY wrong.
Why does the cartoon not follow the story? Fail.
I agree, such a great song deserves better visuals that follow the story and match the energy.
Love this song. Shame the animation is so badly done.
Your mom went to college
😂
God this song is obnoxious! lol.. these frat guys I used to know would play this garbage on repeat. Not one of their bettter songs imo. Had to find the song on CZcams as I couldn’t remember how it went
Stick to your normal mainstream garbage them. No one's stopping you.
