The actual reality of the electoral college is not that it protects the minority from majority oppression, but that in the USA system it is the STATES that elect the president, NOT the people. We have 50 sovereign states and each one casts a vote (# of votes based on population) for president. That is the proper representative way to elect a national executive. Popular vote would be literally a tyranny of a minority of STATES while at the same time a tyranny of a majority of PEOPLE. Both the founders sought to avoid.

One of the numerous bad things to come out of 1913 was the 17th Amendment. One of the best descriptions of what our founders created with the Constitution was a contract. That contract was with three groups. The People, the Federal Government and the States. The House is the people's representative to the Federal Government. The Senate was the State's representative. When the Senate went to direct election the State's part of the contract was thrown out.

The Founding Fathers warned about the "tyranny of the majority" and built into the Constitution safeguards against it, notably the Bill of Rights, the electoral college, the Supreme Court (members chosen by the President and confirmed by the Senate), and a bicameral legislature. Keep in mind, the Senate was originally chosen by the state legislatures. It wasn't until 1912 and the passage of the 17th amendment which allowed for popular election of Senators.

The Senate used to represent the governments of the states. Senators were elected by state legislatures. The House was the House of the People. Senate was the House of the States, giving state governments a check against federal government power as well as preventing more populous states from running roughshod over states with lower population. Direct election of senators was a terrible idea. It diminished the power of the states to check overarching power of the federal government.

The media and AOC are very clever in modifying the techniques, tactics and procedure used in “The basic principles of war propaganda (Principes élémentaires de propagande de guerre) a monograph by Anne Morelli published in 2001”. She is attacking the weak link- knowledge of a younger generation that has not studied the subjects you pointed out.

We Definitely and for sure should not be granting the right to vote to those who sneak into the country like a thief in the night. And it is Insane to think someone making bad decisions in their personal lives, such as felons, should be allowed to vote where the welfare of the general population is concerned.

Right. That’s why I said a True Democracy as in a pure/direct democracy where people directly initiate policies and or directives.

ineedmondayoff Fair enough. The founding fathers debated vigorously about the type of country they wanted. They wanted to try to insure that the government would never be able to become tyrannical in its actions, yet were well aware that a true democracy was subject to its own tyranny, the tyranny of the majority, which can pass ANY law it wants, no matter how unjust(as one other commenter said, two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner). They knew that urban centers would have the greatest populations, and would dominate elections in a simple popular vote. This was the reason for the electoral college: so that states with dense populations would not be able to unilaterally determine who is elected president. This is the same reason there are two bodies in the legislature branch: the House (based solely on population of states) and the Senate (EQUAL representation of each state). If they had not made the electoral college, New York, California, and a couple other states would always determine who was to be president, and people living in ALL the other states would have no say in it. This is why the Democrats are trying to get rid of it, because they pretty much control those high population states (and are also running them into the toilet!). Our governor (Colorado, Democrat) has joined with a bunch of other Democrat governors to try to MANDATE that the electoral college members vote, not on the results of the STATE vote, but on the results of the entire country's overall vote, thus effectively eliminating the electoral college and making the individual votes in our state and most other states meaningless.
For example: In a pure democracy, the majority, if they felt like it, could vote that anyone NOT having the majority view be arrested and executed! So, no, the founding fathers did NOT agree on having a pure democracy.
The Federalist Papers show the many debates on this and a lot of other subjects concerning the making of a country.

By your statement "it's a representative democracy rather than direct democracy, still a democracy", you agree there are variations in the forms of democracy. I also understand there are variations in the forms i.e. pure/ direct/ true/ representative.
But, since you want to argue semantics and purposely miss my point, there are reasons why the founding fathers instituted the electoral college to elect the President instead of using the popular vote. The main one being that the more populous states don't get to over power or out vote the less populous states. Since the U.S is comprised of sovereign states (not people) that make up the nation each state gets a more equal voice with the electoral college format. Lastly, and I'm sure you will want to argue about it but the U.S is a constitutional republic not a representative one. Each state has equal powers, no one has more than the other and that's the whole point.
