The Daily Wire Ben. What do you say when people say that trump is making lots of money off the presidency by taking golf days at his own resorts? Can you explain it to me please
A TRUMP WIN IN 2O2O IS A WIN FOR ALL OF US,A
Love that Christopher Hitchens quote.
"Facts don't care about your feelings".
Hi Ben. You didn’t address AOC’s point that votes are wasted under the electoral college thanks to the winner takes all system. As you’re a Californian, wouldn’t you agree your vote would be more valuable if electoral college votes were distributed proportionately like in Maine and Nebraska?
Isn't this the guy who thinks the civil war was a national apology for slavery?
Suddenly, I'm very much in favor of giving California back to Mexico.
If socialism happens in lifetime I’m definitely headed to Mexico
Yea, but isnt Shapiro there?
@@thewhitematstudio As an American now living almost ten years abroad,....the only thing I really miss about the states is really good pizza ,.........I wish I felt different,........
No, let’s take California back from the leftist
what have the Mexicans ever done to you?
She doesn’t understand socialism much less Democracy
You could have stopped at "she doesn't understand"...
Jon Snow knows more than her...and he knows nothing.
The White Mat Studio
She fell asleep during history class.
She don't understand ANYTHING
Democracy is where the people hold the power in government. It's that simple. We *are* a democracy. We aren't a pure democracy. We aren't meant to be the most democratic. But we are a democracy.
True Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner.
Benjamin Franklin?
@@TheJgraves21 it's been credited to him, but I believe that's a misconception
@@christiansimmons7354 Good to know thanks
As the silent majority we could vote CA and NY are exempt from voting😎
America is a representative democracy because it elects representatives to govern on their behalf. Democracy and republicanism work together
I wonder if AOC thought at first the electoral college was an actual college with a campus 🤣
American Patriot she still does
American Patriot she thinks it’s a group of old white guys sitting around in a room smoking cigars deciding how they can make people more racist.
You know she did.
American Patriot She should quit her job and go back to eating corn through a fence

Replace 'democracy' with 'aristocracy' and things become very clear. The entire idea of a democracy isn't an idea. It's an in-your-face dupe
🧟AOC also says that the Capital of California is "C"...
And wonders at the common toaster.....the bread goes in, a few minutes later toast pops out......but where does the bread go?
Justin M lol
If progressives were really serious about a popular vote, then why aren't top Democratic Candidates campaigning in California or New York? There is clearly no substance in the argument if action cannot be followed. I love it how we are now discussing this subject as we are nearing a presidential election - good luck.
AOC, should focus on the feelings of the people who are in her District, because she has a very low popularity among her constituents. I'm feeling pretty sure that AOC will not be reelected to Congress.
Yay!!!
David Galloway I’m praying for this and that she’ll disappear.
@Vincent Cuttolo AOC has a 21% favorability rating, just 11% believe she has their best interest in mind, 13% would vote to re-elect her. 51% have an unfavorable view of her, 33% are ready to vote against her. She's toast.
I have a excuse for her .. she was dropped on her head as a child.. often...
You know to much.
would explain the ugliness too. nice name btw
.......on purpose too......
She's not ugly, her non-uglyness is the only thing she's got going for her lol
Nah man, just low iq
I though AOC did suggest getting rid of the Senate?
I'm not so sure about that. She was asking for a pay increase.
Good luck with your future career AOC I'll have a vanilla latte with no whip please
Would you really trust her to prepare food/drink for you?
@The eyes of Argus You watch a little too much CNN look at her polling stats then come talk to me.
And it doesn't take a genius to see the Democrats are destroying this country there whole party is in shambles they are all fighting each other it's one of the best things to watch on t.v Dems eating the own
I love how the founding fathers wrote the Constitution over 200 years ago and they are still smarter than most of the people in the government and with much better foresight with very little information directly available to them.
The actual reality of the electoral college is not that it protects the minority from majority oppression, but that in the USA system it is the STATES that elect the president, NOT the people. We have 50 sovereign states and each one casts a vote (# of votes based on population) for president. That is the proper representative way to elect a national executive. Popular vote would be literally a tyranny of a minority of STATES while at the same time a tyranny of a majority of PEOPLE. Both the founders sought to avoid.
Trade California to Mexico for the border wall. Win win.
Kakarot we could trade it for Greenland
Kakarot we could trade it for Greenland
Hell no. California is extremely valuable. SF Bay Area and LA are powerhouses.
And there are SOME relatively sane people who live here. We were involuntary transplants at a young age, so we put down career and marriage roots of our own here. We don't get involved in the New Age woo, the emulating of superficial celebrities, or the shrill P.C. language or chaotic women's marches. Some of us are social conservatives.
pennypay1 do you realize that was a joke
She would always screw up my order at the bar too....
One of the numerous bad things to come out of 1913 was the 17th Amendment. One of the best descriptions of what our founders created with the Constitution was a contract. That contract was with three groups. The People, the Federal Government and the States. The House is the people's representative to the Federal Government. The Senate was the State's representative. When the Senate went to direct election the State's part of the contract was thrown out.
Ben makes the point I ALWAYS bring up about the moral equivalence of the Electoral College and the US Senate. This should be brought up LOUDLY every time the EC question comes up.
Benjamin Franklin said that Democracy is liken to two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for dinner.
Love that Christopher Hitchens quote.
"Facts don't care about your feelings".
Getting rid of the electoral college means we should also get rid of the Senate. Lately I have noticed that critics of the electoral college are beginning to acknowledge this and say "yup, we should".
Finally someone said it!! We live in a republic!
That's the wrong kind of helmet for AOC in the thumbnail.
Pure democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.
God bless you Ben, and God bless America. We need God as a nation more and more as time goes on.
PLEASE DON'T GIVE HER IDEAS!!!
Dang Ben I love you man I can have the crappiest day and two minutes of listening to you and I'm all smiles , I'm so glad you're on our side 🇺🇸🇮🇱
Maybe we should also go back to the original concept of Senators not beimg directly elected by each state's population.
James Madison is spinning in his grave from the power of AOC's massive intellect.
Direct election of Senate was one of the worst things that was ever imposed upon the people.
Succinct and informative Ben. 👍✌❤🇺🇸
No Taxation without representation!
Why stop at the electoral college? Let's get rid of the Senate too. There are nearly 80 times as many senators per person in Wyoming than in California.
Welp, I just got to the part where Ben just said exactly that...

I used to think the US was a Democracy, when I was nine...
we should have a national popular vote at the state level too, and on every bill passed, and while we are at it, get rid of the court system, lets just make that popular vote.
I couldn't care less how much she "understands democracy"... we're not a democracy. We are a constitutional representative republic. Theres a reason for that, and the founding fathers hit the nail on the head.
I STIIL SAY THAT MY PET ROCK IS SMARTER THAN OCCASIONAL COTEX
Don't tempt her. She will want to get rid of anything that doesn't agree with her and play the victim while she does it.
It is sad that anyone takes AOC seriously.
I hate that I still have to wait another year till her term ends for me to vote her tf out.
If she truly believed what she says. She would forfeit at least 40% of her paycheck and give it back to the government.
Ever since the 17th Amendment the senate makes less sense.
The dam has broken and they’re trying to scoop up the water with colliders
I've read zero federalist papers
The plan was to write 65 essays, the work divided even among the three men

The Founding Fathers warned about the "tyranny of the majority" and built into the Constitution safeguards against it, notably the Bill of Rights, the electoral college, the Supreme Court (members chosen by the President and confirmed by the Senate), and a bicameral legislature. Keep in mind, the Senate was originally chosen by the state legislatures. It wasn't until 1912 and the passage of the 17th amendment which allowed for popular election of Senators.
Then run for president please Ben in four years after the wall gets finished!
We need a popular vote system! That's why remainers in the UK aren't screaming for a revote because they weren't the popular option.
The Senate used to represent the governments of the states. Senators were elected by state legislatures. The House was the House of the People. Senate was the House of the States, giving state governments a check against federal government power as well as preventing more populous states from running roughshod over states with lower population. Direct election of senators was a terrible idea. It diminished the power of the states to check overarching power of the federal government.
This is why we shouldn't be reading opinion pieces
HELL YES BEN!!!!!
How many times is "democracy" in the constitution?
I feel like a large part of the origins of this popular vote movement stem from the lack of knowledge as to how the number of electoral votes are assigned to each state. It’s the same number as the seats each state gets in legislature (house + senate)
MABA (Make Alexandria Bartender Again)
We need the electoral college
Can someone ask AOC if she knows what bicameral legislation is.... she will probably confuse it with a sticky sweet treat
Omg I love the picture

We live in a federal republic AND a representative (a.k.a. indirect) democracy.
I am one of the few conservatives who is against the Electoral College. I would rather have a popular vote BUT with an instant run-off vote and NOT First Past the Post vote like we have.

Lol I love when ben stays on stuff like this and away from war
Ben has scientific approach to matters, love it.
Can't wait for the moment when "The Squad" is in the index of a history textbook and my grandkids ask me what it was like in these times. XD
I want less democracy in the government. Let's go back to senators being appointed by state legislatures, so they will be beholden to their state and not the special interests paying millions into their campaigns.
He called Jemelle Bouie a "he"? This is fun. This is a fun time.
Laughable defense and a Notre Dame helmet in the thumbnail...seems about right
Easiest way to end the electoral college debate is to make it known that getting rid of it would inevitably lead to a civil war at some point in history.
The left wants a civil war they're just too stupid to know who is armed.
T Stewart I don't even think it's an issue of who's armed the most. The left can't even tolerate a difference of opinion without having a meltdown. In war like scenario, people like that wouldn't even be able to follow orders.
@@chrisgreer5181 so true.
"If you think about politics in an intellectual way, you are likely to be on the left... but once you started thinking, if you think a bit harder and longer, you'll make it back to where you would have been if you have never thought at all." Sir Rodger Scruton.

45% of the population shouldn't be allowed to boss around 55% of the population.
If the Electoral College goes, why shouldn't the Senate? Why should Wyoming get to send the same # of senators as California?
The media and AOC are very clever in modifying the techniques, tactics and procedure used in “The basic principles of war propaganda (Principes élémentaires de propagande de guerre) a monograph by Anne Morelli published in 2001”. She is attacking the weak link- knowledge of a younger generation that has not studied the subjects you pointed out.
We Definitely and for sure should not be granting the right to vote to those who sneak into the country like a thief in the night. And it is Insane to think someone making bad decisions in their personal lives, such as felons, should be allowed to vote where the welfare of the general population is concerned.

Hey man Montana has at least 11 people now since i moved up here. 3 years ago.
if you don't pay income tax you shouldn't be allowed to vote imo, people who don't pay the bills shouldn't be allowed to decide on how the money is spent.
If the founding fathers wanted a true democracy then why did they establish the electoral college? SMH 🤦♂️
I guess you never read the Federalist Papers, huh?
How does your statement answer the proposed question?
Rory Mulligan
Right. That’s why I said a True Democracy as in a pure/direct democracy where people directly initiate policies and or directives.
ineedmondayoff Fair enough. The founding fathers debated vigorously about the type of country they wanted. They wanted to try to insure that the government would never be able to become tyrannical in its actions, yet were well aware that a true democracy was subject to its own tyranny, the tyranny of the majority, which can pass ANY law it wants, no matter how unjust(as one other commenter said, two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner). They knew that urban centers would have the greatest populations, and would dominate elections in a simple popular vote. This was the reason for the electoral college: so that states with dense populations would not be able to unilaterally determine who is elected president. This is the same reason there are two bodies in the legislature branch: the House (based solely on population of states) and the Senate (EQUAL representation of each state). If they had not made the electoral college, New York, California, and a couple other states would always determine who was to be president, and people living in ALL the other states would have no say in it. This is why the Democrats are trying to get rid of it, because they pretty much control those high population states (and are also running them into the toilet!). Our governor (Colorado, Democrat) has joined with a bunch of other Democrat governors to try to MANDATE that the electoral college members vote, not on the results of the STATE vote, but on the results of the entire country's overall vote, thus effectively eliminating the electoral college and making the individual votes in our state and most other states meaningless.
For example: In a pure democracy, the majority, if they felt like it, could vote that anyone NOT having the majority view be arrested and executed! So, no, the founding fathers did NOT agree on having a pure democracy.
The Federalist Papers show the many debates on this and a lot of other subjects concerning the making of a country.
By your statement "it's a representative democracy rather than direct democracy, still a democracy", you agree there are variations in the forms of democracy. I also understand there are variations in the forms i.e. pure/ direct/ true/ representative.
But, since you want to argue semantics and purposely miss my point, there are reasons why the founding fathers instituted the electoral college to elect the President instead of using the popular vote. The main one being that the more populous states don't get to over power or out vote the less populous states. Since the U.S is comprised of sovereign states (not people) that make up the nation each state gets a more equal voice with the electoral college format. Lastly, and I'm sure you will want to argue about it but the U.S is a constitutional republic not a representative one. Each state has equal powers, no one has more than the other and that's the whole point.
I can hear my mom now. "If everyone in California jumped off a bridge does that mean you would too?"
The slow side-to-side panning of the camera legitimately made me feel sick, please do not do that.
When are you gonna run for President Ben? You Rock!
We can always trade California for Greenland.

Get rid of the Electoral College? Only if we institute voter ID laws. j/k getting rid of the EC is non-negotiable.
