With the release of The Final Shape in Destiny 2, we received a new set of changes for the Stasis subclass. These changes promised better sustainability, damage, and overall gameplay feel. But did those changes actually do anything for Stasis, or was there another reason for the addition? Today we'll be talking about Frost Armor, fragment changes, the updated Harvest Aspects, abilities, and more to try and answer the question: Is Stasis worth playing in The Final Shape?

Alot of people have neglected to mention that, while getting healing and frost armor from an aspect is a great idea, that also really pushes you towards that aspect quite alot and doesn't really improve stasis build diversity very much sadly. One of the key examples being stasis warlock's glacial harvest. If you wanna build into the crowd control loop and lock down support, you are better off not running glacial harvest as ice flare, bleak watcher is great at freezing. By doing so you just basically dump frost armor, your main survival tool off the kit. The really would've been alot better at promoting playstyle changes if more aspects were buffed and frost armor and healing were baked into the subclasses sorta like perching threadlings. Alot of stasis diversity is also destroyed by aspects doing nothing for most of gameplay like frostpulse. But that is a whole other can of issues with the broader game. EDIT: Typo.

One aspect I don’t see a lot of people mention is what each subclass brings to a team. Solar brings lots of healing and damage buffs, void weakens enemies, and strand has sever and woven mail. All of these keywords bring a lot to the table when in a team scenario. Stasis really has nothing of the sort. Maybe a renewal duskfeild but a titan throwing a tangle on top of the team will grant them a higher dr percentage. I would even argue that many times stasis can be detrimental to a team as staisis crystals can block shots or block enemies you may need to stun.
Even if stasis did have the best add clear, cc, and survivability in the game, which quite frankly I don’t think it does any of those jobs the best, I still don’t think it would be used. Plenty of other classes have way better survivability, other classes add clear much better, other classes do cc better, and other classes do boss damage better.
Stasis really needs something that it can bring to a team. My best suggestion would be “shattering or breaking a encased target would increase the amount of damage that target takes from non stasis ability damage.” I think bungie doesn’t want to make stasis a damage powerhouse, but if it could help other classes increase their damage in some way that would give stasis a use case in a team setting

Stasis was originally the crown control subclass. But in the current game, there is just no place for CC in the majority of content. The best solution to deal with every enemy is just kill it faster. There's no need to slow and freeze large groups of red / orange bars when we are as powerful as we are. Stasis can still shine in activities like legend onslaught where there is a genuine need for CC due to the large number of majors that can spawn, but even then the solution is often just more damage more gooder. Even in GMs, stasis has fallen out of favor because of the sheer damage potential of the light subclasses

  • @wes6394
    @wes6394 Před 8 dny +3

I think my problem with stasis dates back all the way back to the armor mod changes. My builds stopped working as I wanted them to, and now requires a lot more setup and execution skill than before, along with mods that don’t exist anymore. I used to run the horfost-z exotic with the slide melee aspect, and glacial grenade. They used to give me the ability to chain these together infinitely without the presents of ads. Which in hindsight was broken, but it was fun. Now it’s a lot harder to keep at least 1 ability up at any given time. That also broke my stasis hunter melee build for the same reason, the mods I used and crafted specifically for that build were removed. Stasis had felt weak ever since.

  • @hamsterpixel
    @hamsterpixel Před 11 dny +7

Shadebinder has been my main for a while, and I gotta be honest, I don’t feel that incentivised to lean into frost armour. You’ll need to commit an aspect to make the keyword worthwhile (unless you consider getting in melee range every 9 seconds on one of the squishiest subclasses in the game to be a viable strategy), and the swiss cheese-flavoured bandaid it slaps on the subclass’ survivability just feels substantially worse than using that subclass real estate to lean into your strengths and outsourcing your survivability to elsewhere. Bungie may not like it, but the hole they’ve dug themselves into means that a subclass either needs reliable healing to stay an enticing option.
I’m at least glad that I still feel some incentive to play full stasis tho. A lot of people will probably be on the ‘bleak watcher and devour’ train and it’s probably objectively stronger, but my full stasis osmio build just feels so damn good compared to just bleak watcher without the rest of the stasis kit.

It just feels like Prismatic mostly does what Stasis does, but better. Like, it's not awful, and you can make some builds work, but you basically only have 1 good build per class that you want to run on Stasis to be good (Bleakwatcher, Renewal, and Titan crystal spam). But even the Bleakwatcher and Renewal builds are better on Prismatic since we get Bleak on Warlock and Duskfields on Hunter PLUS the fact you get Spirit of Renewal and Spirit of Osmio on the class items.

I've had a lot of fun with Stasis Titan... the issue is the cooldown on shards. Yes, you can keep Frost Armor up pretty much all the time even with the shards, but the healing on them in pitiful and not having the healing when you need it because of the cooldown is rough. It's also made Hoarfrost a LOT worse as you lose the DR near crystals.

As a mentally insane behemoth main since I first unlocked it in beyond light, the changes for titan really don't feel much different. My gameplay loop of glacier grenade and hoarfrost barricade is the same but kinda worse due to the whisper of chains rework. The cooldown of tectonic harvest is the real killer for any of it to be amazing (granted it is probably required for things like pvp). However it is still playable if you know what you are doing. For warlock and hunter however the changes are really nice, with no cooldowns on their stasis shard generation they can have almost permanent free damage resist as long as there are enemies nearby. Osmiomancy warlock or Renewal grasps hunter feel amazing and stasis hunter finally feels like it has some form of identity in high end pve content (at least to me). All in all I the stasis buffs are fine, hunter and warlock feel really good and I am still stuck on titan due to stockholm syndrome but hey, a buff is a buff. Double the frost armor stack limit with rime, instead of the current +3?(not sure, it always stays on), but add a small slow per every stack over the base, a bit like icefall mantle, but without the flight restriction. It would give stasis some very much needed personality to the classes, would passively buff Cryoclasm for titan making it more useful by difference.

Id like if frost armor was like a health buffer, at 5 stacks half your health is protected by a 30% DR shield that for every 10% lost would release stasis shards in retaliation like how taken hobgoblins do, maybe with a fragment that causes them to slow enemies to give a more automated area locking options to hunter and titan

I wish that frost armor granted a damage buff of like 15% for the duration that frost armor lasts with Whisper of Rime, and I wish the shards granted healing based on health percentages. Like say you’re below 30% health, make the shard grant 30% health per shard. When above 50%, make it grant 15% health per shard.
I think that could really help it out, without changing the cooldowns on the stasis shard generation.
I would like to add Shadebinder should get 5 fragment slots as well.
And I really would like to add, hunters need tick damage on the duskfield in PvE. It’s a freezing, atrophying dome with debris.. let that thing tick for a decent amount.
A lot of stasis’s damage is backloaded. Make it hit harder on the front end.
Stasis needs to be able to generate shards without a harvest aspect.
Whisper of chill is cool but it shouldn’t require frost armor to make shards to get frost armor.

I think if the Harvest aspects also started health regen when picking up a Large Shard or rapidly picking up small Shards, that would do wonders to improve the gameplay loop of the subclasses.
When I’m using Renewal Grasp on Hunter, I can definitely feel the added DR, but it doesn’t matter if I can tank more if I still just die after a few seconds of incoming fire on even expert-level activities.

  • @rhys7047

It is SLIGHTLY better. Personally I think they need to delete the harvest aspects and make their benefits baked in to the subclasses and don’t turned into fragments. Then replace those aspects with new ones that reinforce and create new playstyles for each class. My biggest problem with stasis seems to be that you are forced into playing with the harvest aspects (which don’t do much yet are essential for survivability) and it feels like you’re playing with one aspect/half a build. Also all other element pickups can be created intrinsically or through fragments, why are stasis shards the exception??

I was worried about the harvest aspects giving the same heal as pre-reworked whisper of rime. Was sad to see my worry be true. I do like with the Hunter that I don't necessarily need the harvest aspect in order to get a good amount of frost armor if running with renewal grasp. Ik Warlocks have ballidorse to also give frost armor but osmiomancy is preferred so much more. Surprised the Titan's icefall mantle or some exotic to give them frost armor as well. While there is a fragment that can give frost armor, it's no where near as reliable as just picking up an orb like you can with prismatic.
Stasis has gotten improved, but there's still more room for improvement. Speaking from mostly a Hunter perspective here tho. Haven't played around a ton with the stasis builds on both my Warlock and Titan(too busy having fun with rocket chest piece)

I think something that is being glossed over are the touch of winter changes. Glacier grenade feels very potent with the larger radius and extra crystal. Coldsnaps, though, are in a whole new league then they were before. The bonus crystals make them huge aoe dumpers, especially with the fact that they duplicate with each chain allowing you to lock down a room similar to osmiomancies. Duskfields still feel lackluster without though.

Having more unique exotics I think would help the subclass too. Don’t get me wrong, I like osmiomancy but I feel like that is the ONLY exotic worth using on stasis warlock. Some examples of new exotic ideas include:
    Stasis titan:
-an exotic that lets you consume your grenade to spawn one massive stasis crystal that constantly freezes and auto shatters nearby frozen combatants while it is up
-an exotic that auto shatters all created stasis crystals after a short delay with a bigger radius and damage
-an exotic that, while you have frost armor, gives you an aura that gives stacks of frost armor to nearby allies
    Stasis hunter
-an exotic that gives silence and squall a second squall
-an exotic that turns your melee into three stacks of slowing makibishi spikes (playing into the ninja feel of the subclass) you can place on the ground that will damage and apply slow stacks to combatants who walk over it (could also just be a new melee ability)
    Stasis warlock:
-an exotic that gives your stasis turret a rounds more velocity and freeze stacks and allows you to pick up and replace the turret
-an exotic that as you kill frozen combatants, build an aura around you that slows nearby targets, when at full aura, taking melee damage/at near death will release a blast that freezes nearby combatants
Idk how balanced these would be in pvp, but I think these would at least add some variety to the subclass

I feel like a big key word difference that is needed is to change Slow to Chill. Chill can serve as something like healing, dusk nades would be like a healing nade providing regeneration while also applying frost armor. I remember when stasis launched they wanted it to be “time” not “ice” but with the advent of frost armor that seems to have faded as an idea. To add to that however Slow could apply time “reversal” to our health but now I digress. This healing factor would definitely kind of make shroud and pulse annoying in pvp but my solution is that having frost armor could increase the potential meaning the more stacks of frost armor the more effective Chill could heal. Finally Frost armor at max stacks should provide an overshield and ability cooldown.

I gotta say, the stasis shatter damage feels waaaaaaaay better. I got a build with the stasis exotic bow and Icefall Mantle. It really feels great having frost armor with the huge overshield with dr. I tried it in Gms yesterday and it would have slapped amazingly if the bow the surges of stasis or had antichampion capabilities (Glassway with barrier and overload champion, so not the perfect trial). Still, I have my one nags about Stasis. The cooldown of the stasis shards is way too noticeable. For my Horfrost Z build I liked to havr tons of melee regen for the aspect that creates the stasis crystals. As it is a very aggresive build, it really needs tons of sustain in more difficult activities (I still want to see if it has capabilities of doing solo dungeons. At least profecy, heresy and shattered throne. I think it has no way of doing the newer dungeons solo) and having to deal with that cooldown for getting little health makes it difficult to manage. Comparing frost armor to woven mail makes you get why one is better. With woven you get automatically like 35% dr. For Titan mains you can have Into the Fray and Banner of war. With these you get constant meaningfull healing and woven mail. With frost armor you have to fight the cooldown of the stasis fragments and the little health they give you plus having to pick up one by one. If I could get the five stacks of frost armor with the slide by default instead of breaking them and then having to pick them up would solve the issue (I feel that eay only eith the slide because it feels awkard shattering the crystals and then having to go backwards to collrct them when that was melee range. Yes I get that you can equip the fragment that makes them come to you but it feels like a waste of a slot when you already put yourself at melee and already went past the fragments9. And for diamond lance, it definetely feels better but its bugged. According to the patch notes they should shatter crystals on direct hits. Its not doing that currently... If it wasnt bugged, I would definetelydo a Cadmus Riged Cap for Gms, either in prismatic or stasis, but until it does what it is supposed to I am not going to bother. I wanted to try some stuff with the reworked fragments for a melee build with syntho or wormgod but it really feels like the better option its just putting on Winterbite, so... In conclusion, I feel somewhat disappointed with them. It feels better in someways but it needs some more tunning.

I made a lancecap-wicked implement build and I was surprised by how bad frost armor was at 8 stacks. The effort required to get frost armor compared to getting woven mail wasn't worth it. The DR feels like it's half of what it should be, and frost armor should decay like armor charge and not all at once.
I also don't like how lances have zero tracking whilst tangles are very forgiving. The lancecap gameplay loop could be very fun if lances behaved like tangles, since I rarely have to think about whether my tangle will hit or not. Lob it and it'll hit something

my personal opinion on the stasis reworks is that they are going the right direction. the problem is we need new stasis abilites. we have been playing with the same stasis abilites for almost 4 years now, and considering all of those options are available on prismatic, why run vanilla stasis anymore. the main reason to switch off of prismatic to a vanilla light subclass is to get access to the abilities on that subclass that arent on prismatic. Stasis and Strand dont have that benefit. Strand is a subject for another day but i honestly think the best way to get vanilla stasis back in the meta is give it new abilites. the new light supers are doing wonders for the vanilla classes rn despite also being on prismatic. thats the key

Stasis walked so light 3.0, Strand, and Prismatic could run.
Stasis being extremely powerful and oppressive when it first launched, and its polarizing popularity paved the way for our other subclasses.
It's still a bit sad that since it was a paid-for class for the longest time that it was basically relegated to being side-content past the beyond light era. So, tuning passes remained minimal after smacking it back down from the stasis meta days, and stasis focused perks/artifact mods were similarly minimal.
I do think it's gonna keep languishing for a good while until they decide to do a full on stasis 2.0-like refresh.

With Stasis requiring an aspect or specific (less safe) options for Frost Armor gen than something like Woven Mail I think ot should have the potential to be stronger.

Each stack gives 10% dr in PvE but only 2% in PvP.
This isn't perfect but for something much more involved to build up and maintain it would help a lot.. Help Prismatic too but that is an after thought.

  • @NenshoFu
    @NenshoFu Před 11 dny

We need a lot on stasis but I think the biggest thing holding back build diversity is just the lack of exotics that synergize well with it. There's about one for each class.
However, I think there's a big misconception about what stasis is inside the community and why it's objectively worse than the other subclasses, minus prismatic since the video more or less nailed that issue. Stasis is about not taking damage. It's about methodical gameplay. It shines only when you can't kill enemies immediately and when supporting other classes. What it does well, it does the best in the game. There's just no where to use it. It's like asking why your support character can't do as much damage as the assassin. Destiny just has very little use for a support character. Yet, stasis hunter has one of the strongest dps rotations in the game and it's hardly utilized. The thing I love about stasis is that it feels like the most unique subclass in the game because it doesn't fit into the aggression mold where you play around how you heal. Since the goal is to not need healing in the first place. To fit stasis into the current sandbox would, imo, require a complete redesign of kit to focus on damage and healing at the cost of its cc. I would likely never enjoy the class again because it would be void or solar. Currently the shatter made a huge difference in lower end content where stasis was irrelevant because the enemies just fall over, on Hunter touch of winter is outclassed by winter's shroud so we have yet another freezing tool, the healing adds a nice touch to aggressive plays, and frost armor fixed the stationary defence play style with a separate stackable dr. These are some great first steps. But i could be a bit biased as a stasis main and not the greatest player.

I think the frost armor changes were a direct downgrade for stasis personally. With clever positioning, glacier grenades, and verglasse curve I was able to have my resist up instantly when needed and keep it up 24/7. Now I have to depend on getting kills on slowed/frozen targets and moving to their location to slowly stack up to a lower dr cap. Bungie said it was hard to keep up your stasis crystals for the resist, but I found that to be an interesting thing to play around. I would kill a trash mob with verglass, shoot a crystal onto a wall above me and just sit under my shelter with extra DR. No teammates (unless they're ass holes) would bother that shard and I could produce many more on the field for them to shatter to their hearts content. The 3 changes needed to make frost armor compete with the old resist would be to make shards intrinsic to stasis, have frost armor decay 1 stack at a time like armor charge, and increase the default stack cap or dr % per stack to at least 5% so you can reach a nice 25% at max stacks. what is this 22.5% crap?
And that's my take on the frost armor changes. The ability changes are fine, not super impactful but nice to have none the less.

I’m not sure if you are completely correct in a couple areas:
I’ll give you the frost armor status and aspects were updated for Prismatic sure, but it’s not like they didn’t do that for other aspects included in prismatic, both consecration and knockout were buffed and would you look at that, they’re in prismatic too!
Also, I don’t think you really have a point when saying that things like Silence and Squall or any of the melees were buffed just for prismatic - Stasis only has ONE melee option and ONE super option, so duh, of course those would be part of Prismatic.
Lastly, you made the point a lot about every other class having better sustain, but that’s not true at all - plenty of subclasses don’t have any sustain at all or require a specific fragment or aspect. Solar is really the only other class that has something similar to a healing key word. Sure devour is present on void, but unless you’re on warlock, it’s not as ubiquitous as something like stasis shards. Strand only has healing on Titan with a specific aspect, and Arc warlocks have no form of innate healing
Do I think that stasis in the best spot? Nah, but I think you’re reasoning is a little flawed and missing the bigger picture

I was waiting for a moment about the updates to touch of winter since the video showcases hunter gameplay. The updates to cold snaps with touch of winter goes hard. Which imo unlocks hunters from dust fields in a pretty huge way. There is a bit of confusion over the commentary shatter dive has been a huge part of the hunter kit. So shatter builds have kind of always been a part of stasis hunter. The shatter from the different formations of crystals with touch of winter has been doing huge damage for about 3 seasons I think. I think the main hiccup around stasis is people thinking they are locked into playing a certain way not sure where that comes from. I think stasis feels a lot better in final shape. Not sure if it’s lagging though. I think the process of discovery is still open for players it’s just if they choose it over prismatic or not.

im 100% a warlock and have always luved stasis.. even when everyone was hating on it. every dam season was always hoping for some awesome artifact mods BUT nope bungie seems to hate stasis 🤷 we still only have a few things in the artifact.. every season its geared towards light subclass. anywho when final shape came out i was hella excited BUT it feels just liie B4 its having to choose between ice flare/ bleak vs glacial harvest for some shards build. i made a frost armor build to go with my turret build. and lets just say..im still on my bleakwatcher build 🤷 and yup..next step was to look into making a stasis pris build 🙂

Its genuinely sad that my behemoth clan that had around 20-30 good stasis users got the whole subclass nerfed repeatedly into the ground in pve and pvp lol. (Mostly pvp)

As a warlock main that loves shadebinder. You hit all the points. Stasis got "reworked" to make prismatic feel better. Why run shadebinder when I can play cooler shadebinder that's actually good?

And as a warlock main that also loves shadebinder, on prismatic you FINALLY have a useful super

I mainly agree with the video.
Stasis feels just a tiny bit better, but is still not great.
And it does feel like it was just buffed for Prismatic, not for Stasis itself

    In my opinion currently
Solar and void are on top
    Prismatic on 3rd
    Strand on 4 th
    Stasis on 5 th
    Arc on last place

A good comparison you can made with stasis shards in this current meta are ionic traces. Easy to come by if you focus on it. There are tons of ways you can say ionic traces are arguably better than SS though, and granting ability energy to all abilities is one of those things. Not to mention you can gain IT from exotics (coldheart). Not to mention, TF ARE YOU PLANNING TO DO WITH ALL THAT MELEE ENERGY FROM THOSE STASIS SHARDS? It’s unfortunate that the stasis melees are what they in pve (ass; with an exception for the hunter which I honestly love), because they just don’t make much of an impact for me to build around

make slow stacks better in pve with a fragment to increase the amount applied (like ember or ashes), allow grenades to be more impactful in regards to add-control and team play (dusk field in particular- I want a mini ward of dawn with renewals grasp bungo plz 😢). shatter dmg will come naturally with the growth in application of slow. that new seasonal relic fragment this that causes a slowing blast on defeating stasis enemies?- make that an inherent part of the stasis subclass kit (honestly, it might not be too bad in pvp- just don’t bunch up). Make stasis shards give all ability energy- building into ability usage, in turn increasing add-control effectiveness with grenades.

honestly stasis and void are the most balanced subclasses imo. strand just needs a little tuning, some buffs some nerfs, and solar needs some overall nerfs but not very intense. Prismatic needs a rework, some abilities need to be rotated out desperately.

The fact that you need a fragment to get it to 8 stacks and even boosted that much it’s still worse then woven mail is wild to me
Like the artifact perk galvanic armor gives I think a 30% damage resist from amplified, which is more damage resist than the base max frost armor with LITERALLY no effort, if that’s allowed to be 30% then why the hell is frost armor so weak?
I think frost armor should be changed to 6% resist per stack instead of 4.5% so it gets to 30% at 5 stacks and 48% at 8 stacks if you use the fragment

They gotta rework harvest aspects entirely at this point its still is just a requirement for any stasis builds i dont understand why they are so hesitant to do this

Stasis Titan feels a lot like void Titan. It takes an aspect to get the subclass unique buff but the uptime is so trash there is no real way to fully use it properly. On the other hand arc Titan is brain dead easy to get amplify that it's potency is totally trash. And during the 3.0 update void Titan had more utility in providing buffs to teammates effecting cooldowns, and arc Titan had a way to reload weapons sliding over ammo and getting a weapon damage buff. Ballistic slam used to give bonus super energy and weapon damage, and the subclass could get an extra grenade without the use of an exotic. 3.0 update stripped all of that away gave Titans bastion and then they nerfed the cooldown to absurd levels and gave no way to earn the class ability back faster built into the subclass itself. And on top of all of that void oversold just sucks. So the uptime gets substantially nerfed without the potency getting any buffs at the same time. It's way too easy to lose the shield and very few ways to gain one. Nerfs suck.

Titans need an actual stasis super, not the uninspired schlock we got in Beyond Light

  • @benoitgarin6477

It is so annoying that to use frost armor properly you have to put like 2 fragments and 1 aspect, when you can put 1 fragment to get woven mail

    • @benoitgarin6477
      @benoitgarin6477 Před 11 dny

And also, put Whisper of Rending intrisinc of stasis subclasses, it is so annoying to use a single fragment just to destroy stasis crystals faster and doesn’t bring much except ease of use

Frost Armor needs to get buffed. A 22.5% at base is so unnoticeable and with Rime the 36% is fine but that’s it. Just fine.
Buff Frost Armor to 25% at base and with Rime equipped it goes up to 50%
Not to mention that Renewals got it’s intrinsic 25% DR removed when they got rid of Resist from Stasis.
