- When Kenneth McKenzie finished his combat service with the Calgary Highlanders in 1945, he traveled down the Lines of Communication of the 21st Army Group with his camera. His photos were discovered in the regimental archives in 2008 and turned into a book. Presented here is a brief overview of the "signs of war" visible in Northwest Europe in 1944-45, including many of the photos from McKenzie’s personal photo album.

I’ve seen “Maple Leaf Up!” Referenced sooo much in our WW2 history and I was today old when I found out what it meant.
That pair of photos of “Siegfried line”
then “the washing” had the air of a modern meme about it
Proof that Trolling is an ancient undying art
Something I never thought about but an integral part of keeping the military moving.
Thanks.
My great grandpa was a truck driver during the war. He was a Canadian with dual citizenship and he gave up his Canadian citizenship so he could volunteer for the US Army
Watching this video reminds me of how much I wish I could have had a man-to-man discussion about the war with him
Excellent summary, thanks. I make up 'toy soldier' set to give away to less well off kids and I add all the stuff I would have liked when I was ten. Lots of ideas for sinage here, all of which will be explained in the accompanying notes. The sets do not glorify war, the ruined houses have interior domestic details, each side gets its medical units and casualties, transport and what have you and the complexities are explained in the notes. So, thanks for this, I will try and make good use of it.
Frickin’ loved it! Thanks for these videos
What an amazing collection of photos.
Extremely underrated video. Thanks for making it!
We are truly gifted to have these pictures.
Id like a video on the funniest signs
I second that!
Yes
Wow he actually did do a Canada video like I asked last video. What a mad lad and keep up the good work man. 👍
Excellent Video. Great info on a little know yet essential part of military life.
Yes more production value!
Strange that this is not very popular video despite being well made and entertaining.
It should be very popular among road geeks like myself.
Me: This isn’t going to be as good as other videos. It’s a *very* dry subject
Me 18 minutes later: WOW! Why is this video not longer?!
Great video, as always. If I could suggest a topic for a future video, I would hope you do something about soldiers' payment during the war. This seems to me such a curious but quite forgotten subject. Probably the only video on CZcams touching the subject of payment is a short one from World War Two with Indy Neidell from last year.
Keep up the good work!
A great new video as always of all videos made by you.
Awesome video!
Genuinely one of the best informative videos on CZcams. Love your content. Love it.
Nice Video!
Would be cool if you made one about the German ones
EXCELLENT!
I enjoyed this ~ thanks
Great video!
What would be cool is a Trucker sim. BUT. You are in WW2 and have to navigate supplies via using the signs. No Minimap, etc.
Anyone else glad he’s uploading again
16.12 nah thats just good old dark army humour at work.
Mckenzie is my name.
