    Homelessness is always judged by those who have never experienced it. There are numerous different reasons why people become homeless. Todays society treats homeless like they are 3rd class citizens, talking about fixing the homeless crisis. Its all of our faults. Alot of people on the street are there as a result of todays society lacking empathy for others and only focusing on themselves. We are all connected to one another and the more people who look for someone to blame instead of a way to correct errors, the more lost we will become.

    Before FB, Paypal, Instagram, and Tic Tok, there was still Apple, HP, and Cisco. The affordability of San Fran hasn't been within reach of someone in the lower middle class or below, for many more decades than the last two. Blaming homelessness on Tech is just beyond logic when it wasn't Tech who put in major limiting regulations that made new construction nearly impossible in the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s. It wasn't tech who made energy, utility, and food prices cost more in California than anywhere else in the Nation when California is blessed with oil, natural gas, wind, solar, geothermal, tidal, and just about every other type of energy source known, is blessed with one of, if not the top food producing soil in the US, is blessed with abundant water resources throughout the Sierras and the Pacific Ocean, and yet have regulated themselves out of being able to effectively tap these resources to be the best place in the US instead of the last place. When you make everything in your State cost more, having nothing to do with Tech, and everything to do with ignorant voters, you get issues with poverty that are beyond that of the avg community.

However, they lack the wisdom of why things are the way they are. If it were a simple matter of money and resources, the problem would have been fixed a long time ago. In my city there are dozens of very nice business buildings that are so expensive that no business can afford to rent them, and they continue to rapidly build new plazas, despite the old ones being unused still. So you’d make $23,100 if your room was occupied for 12 months. She really thinks landlords would rather “save” money on taxes that were already going to pay and not make the additional $23,100?? Wow, she's smug, obnoxious And clueless. "Of course there's alot of misinformation" - dismissive and pushing policies that have failed. This was Not always the case. Homelessness is at a whole new level Because of the policies.
    Under Juliani (the guy your friends bankrupted) killed tolerance for crimes, gathered people up and got them the help they needed. It Worked. I know because I was there.
    Permissive policing (no where more prevalent than CA) causes this.
    This is an abject failure of the political class of CA. (Optimistically. They are a big fan of riots and Brown Shirts, so who knows.)
    But they are not answerable to the people of CA (they count the votes) so no one will lose their job due to gross incompetence... even if there's a recall election.

    Jessica - landlords don't want vacant properties for the tax write-off. They are looking for paper loses to offset other income, but a vacant property on which they have to pay maintenance and huge property taxes isn't just a write-off, it's an outlay of cash. They use depreciation rules to have paper losses yet positive cash flow; negative cash flow will cause them to unload the properties (if they can). In the same vein, Krystal on BP was noting how the selling of properties in SF well below their purchase price was going to cause a banking crisis, but that is not necessarily so. In commercial real estate, you don't buy a property to make money on the gain on the sale like a home - you buy it to make money on the rent. And if you have owned the property for a decent period of time, you have made enough rent to more than offset a loss on the sale, and that loss will provide a write off against other income.

  • @Mortiel
    @Mortiel Před měsícem +3

    For Jessica: If you have a rental unit and set your prices too high, as you suggest, to where many units are empty... How do you afford to keep the place in business?
    It's the most basic rule of business is that you charge as much as your customer can afford... SF tech companies imported a ton of high paid software engineers, which drove up the prices of houses/rentals. Had SF government done nothing, real estate developments could not have afforded to keep creating such high-priced units. Instead, SF gave incentives to developers to build condos for tech workers instead of letting the market handle itself... Because the government wanted to keep growing the Silicon Valley tech boom.
    I could go on, but at the end of the day, the problem with people being priced out of real estate markets is largely due to government meddling in the economy.

    You are both correct. The homelessness problem is a very complicated one. Just as many want to work their way up as those that choose to live and die on the street due to addiction. The program's needed will need to take on massive numbers but the government spends millions on pet projects that have nothing to do with American citizens.
